We had a 2 day conference at this place from 19-20 October 2012. we arrived after dark, and there is inadequate lighting from the reception to the rooms, which is a hazard as 1 can easily break a leg. There were numerous cockroaches in my room and my colleagues complained of the same thing.

Dinner was passable and I have to commend the staff for organising late dinner for us when our meeting ran over. Breakfast was also passable. However, the buffet lunch was truly the worst food I have ever tasted in my entire life and I have travelled the world. It tasted like it was drowned in water and boiled to submission.

We arrived early afternoon and what a wow Entrance to the reception area. We had a house facing the golf course at the fourth tee. Upon opening the doors to the patio we spotted a giraffe at the water hole. There were also some springbok roaming as well as guinea fowl and an abundance if birds. Beautiful Serene surrounding. The house was large with three large bedrooms with large full en suite bathrooms.clean. The open spaced lounge, dining room and kitchen was large. Only dasappontment was the dirty pool and missing light bulbs outside. It gets very dark at night. Our husbands had a great game of golf and we joined them. Saw some waterhogs. ladies were very disappointed cause the Spa was fully booked. They have only two masseus. So book before u arrive. Dinner braai was a disappointment. The chef parboils the meat and then flame grills it. We had a piece of kingklip that he defrosted on the grill. I loved the open space, the serenity and the peacefulness. Service was great too.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the golf course or better still a house on the golf course .

wonderful hotel with a wonderful golf course, one wakes up to the sound of birds and wild animals as they roam freely near the rooms.

the breakfast is varied and wonderful that would shame many expensive hotels.

cheaper rate that booking agents even when they promise 40% discounts. patience when bookin in directly as they take their time to answer the phone but you wont be dissapointed.

as the temperature reaches 27C in winter, I guess summers will be too hot for Europeans.

Room Tip: ask for the room facing the golf course, they all have been revamped and are more modern

We stayed at the hotel on 30 June 2012. It is really a beautiful place. We were very disappointed in our room. The bedside lamps on the wall and the main light of the room did not work. One of the basin taps in the bathroom was broken - no running water. The toilet roll holder non-existent.

This is such a beautiful place with lots of potential - and lovely gardens and golf course. Please do something about the upkeep. We would like to visit there again.

I recently stayed at Hans Merensky and have to say that to my surprise we had a wonderful time, like every hotel there can always be improvements but for what we paid and the service we were given we have no complaints just maybe a better selection of wines and food. The rooms are fine and we are in the bush we played golf and enjoyed every minute of it. We will definitely be back thank you to all the staff and to Juan and Linah who looked after us.

See you soon

Louis

I recently stay for 12 days for business. After reading a few "bad" reports I was feeling a bit dubious about what to expect. Taking into account it's location, remote area of South Africa, I rate this as a great resort. My suite was on the golf course, fantastic views and short walk to the central facilities. After trying food in all the eating establishments in Phalaborwa, I eat at the hotel as my first preference. The staff are fantastic, in fact delightful. They are so helpful and in their way endearing to those who are willing to engage with them. The golf course is great, the wild animals a truly South African experience and the design of the hotel is of world standard. I can highly recommend it as a destination for Kruger visits.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the golf course, and if there are more than 2 of you, get two which adjoin a share...
