We actually slept in the temple, the inn is great. Nobody speaks English and if you want to stay there be sure to organize in advance with local support. The rooms are great with glass wall to the mountain.

“Wannian Temple, a Beautiful and Intensely Spiritual Place of Worship”
Reviewed 26 August 2012

The Wannian (Ten Thousand Years) temple on Emei Shan (Beautiful Mei Mountain) is a place of serene atmosphere. The quiet is impressive, the architecture is very nice and the atmosphere is imposing. As you enter the compound the first thing you see is a walled pond with fish, turtles, stones and money. Believers throw in paper money and coins, and monks take it out with a net. Inside the main pavilion there are two monks studying and writing. There also is a statue of a golden Buddha on a white marble elephant. In front of this statue people bow, kneel and pray. In the back believers gently stoke the elephant's legs for reasons I do not know. I advise to take the cable car up the hill, but it definitely is worth while to walk down. Take into account that from the top of the cable car station to the temple there still are quite some steps to negotiate.

“Beautiful Temple”
Reviewed 22 July 2012

This temple was built along the slope of the mountain. It is very large and very beautiful inside. There are several structures inside (forgot their names). I have been to quite a few temples in Chengdu and EMei, and this one is my favorite. If you are walking from WanNian Temple to the Monkey Reserve, the temple is right next to the path (you will need to climb some steep stairs to the entrace). Plan on one to two hours for the visit.

“Beautiful mountain....”
Reviewed 15 June 2012

Emei Shan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with many temples, beautiful scenery, different climates, wildlife, birds and trees. Some of the trees are more than 1,000 years old.

As one of Buddhism's most holy places pilgrims hike the mountain to visit the Wannian Temple. The Wannian temple has no beams as it is supposed to resemble a yurt. Careful, outside the temple monkeys grab food from unsuspecting visitors.

The walk down the mountain was especially interesting-- we passed through tea plantations, stopped for a glass of tea, watched as furniture and mattresses were transported on mules, waved to smiling masons who were laying brick foundations for new buildings.

For those who cannot manage the walk down there are sedan chair carriers always ready to carry down passengers!
