“A fantastic guesthouse with a great vibe.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014

Junia's guesthouse is a fantastic place to base yourself in Bukit Lawang. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable - when I only emailed them the day before I was due to arrive, they responded promptly, gave me info on how to catch public transport there and met me at the Bukit Lawang station (although they definitely do offer airport transfers as well, I wanted to try the public transport option). The rooms are comfortable, secure and clean - I took the minimalist room which had a double bed, mosquito net, private toilet and shower (it's cold, but you really don't need hot showers), shared balcony and private hammock. The restaurant is beautifully situated as well, right next to the river, and the food is fresh and delicious. Junia's were also really helpful in organising a jungle trek, giving me great advice and storing my baggage for a really minimal fee. As a solo traveller, I was supposed to be paired with another couple for the trek, but when the other couple dropped out, Junia's were so kind to let me continue by myself at no extra charge, which was fantastic service. The best thing about Junia's though, is the vibe. The staff and local guides are so friendly and welcoming, you feel like you've come home. From playing card games and sharing drinks, to group sing-a-longs next to the river, everything about Junia's is designed to make you feel like you're in a home away from home. Thanks guys! And I promise I'll be back soon!

Room Tip: The minimalist room was amazing, so I'm sure all the other rooms are fantastic!

I spent almost one week at Junia and really enjoyed the place. The rooms are nice and cosy. The staff is really friendly and helpful. The food was good, the location good as well (next to the river). Good wifi !! I would definitely come back again ;)

We stayed in one of the "Stone bathroom" double rooms for 100,000 rupiah a night, and the room was perfect for what we needed for two nights before and after our jungle trek. The room was very basic, with a double bed, mosquito net, an electric fan and a dresser/rack. It was very clean and spacious, with a bathroom that was quite large. The shower is beautifully designed and pretty much as pictured on their website. Not sure about the drainage, but it worked out for us. Yes, it was a cold shower, and no, you don't need a hot shower in Bukit Lawang since it's quite hot during the day! However, it cools down at night, so the fan was more than enough for us. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, particularly with our questions about using the public buses. The food was well-priced and delicious, and their two gazebos overlooking the river were wonderful places to relax with a beer and a book. For those of you who cannot live off the grid--fear not! Junia offers free Wi-fi, albeit spotty Wi-fi that would not work well for Skype, but is more than enough to surf the web and research the rest of your travel plans in Sumatra. Junia also offers laundry services, but if you're on a shoestring budget, you could always wash your clothes in the river like the local villagers!

the guest house is next to the river, I was stay there 2 nights with friends on April 2014. the room is nice and clean (i really love the bathroom!! and the wooden design)
the dishes served always cooked freshly everytime we ordered them (my favorite for breakfast is that simple and nice of banana choco pancake). it's a nice recommended place to relax - you can also book the jungle trek here.
their staff are so guaranteed friendly!! (that night singing, funny chitchat..it's just like home) they gave us free bottle of water on our check out day, and drop us off to the bus station with motorbike...thank you for the awesome moment hey people on Junia's guest house! i would love to come again someday :)

guys, if you happen to bukit lawang someday, i highly recommend you to stay here..

Myself and my girlfriend stayed at Junia for 4 nights - 2 in a large double room and 2 in a smaller double room. The large double was a great room, with a bathroom. The smaller room also had a bathroom, but I would only recommend the larger room. There was a slight mix up with the room change, as what had been agreed verbally hadn't been booked into their system, which was frustrating, but I would recommend this place - very friendly staff (genuine), great food and a great location. They gave us a free bottle of water as we left as a 'sorry' for the room mix-up, which was appreciated.

The staff were helpful and extremely friendly.
Definitely recommend the airport pick up and drop off.

We stayed at Junia for a week and would return again in a heartbeat! Our room was basic and clean with an attached bathroom, the hammock outside the room was put to good use. We organised a 2 day jungle trek with Hendri and Wishnu, it was the highlight of our trip, can 100% recommend!!
