This hotel is definitely a place we'll be visiting again. The owners are soooo hospitable, the make us feel so welcome! Sarah and Philip took us to the hot springs and drove us to some of the local surf spots. The food was fantastic and the whole staff was super friendly. We are definitely coming back to stay at Buena Onda as soon as we get a chance!

This is a great place to go with friends or by yourself. Everyone there is super cool, and the rooms are nice. Its a small place so you really get to know and hang out with the other guests and owners, who immediately make me feel right at home. The location is amazing. There is a secret surf spot nearby named Flexies, ask the owners about it, although you made need to stay a few nights before they tell you. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay.

We arrived at Buena Onda with the intension of spending a few days to relax and surf as we had been travelling for 8 months. After meeting the owners, Philip and Sarah and having a look around we new we would be there a lot longer. They are amazing hosts, cant do enough for you and their Nica staff members are friendly and cook yummy food. The location is incredible. The rooms are spotless and very modern. The hammock area is 1st class. If you surf , the waves here are all time. There are breaks up and down the coast and Buena Onda is right in the middle. Whether you surf or not, this place is perfect. It was so nice to have such a relaxed vibe and good people around. As you can tell we had an incredible time here, I'm sure you will to.
Did I forget to mention that the beer is icey cold.

I travelled to Nicaragua last December 2008 together with my girlfriend and stayed about a month in this fascinating country. We arrived from Costa Rica and then headed directly to the Buena Onda Beach Resort where spent the first days and nights at Sarah&Phil's place. And just to start with, this resort was the nicest and most comfortable place we stayed in whole Central America!! SERIOUS! And still a real insider tip! Very clean, very comfortable rooms with excellent all-you-need infrastructure, smart design and location of the building keeps you all day long fresh and chilled (absolutely no need for air-con), great food and excellent company! Okey, since it is not so easy to get there without an own car or by public transport system - it's a place you'd like to spend some days chilling and relaxing, once you're there. Also, there is not much of an tourist infrastructure in its surroundings yet (e.g. Discos, Bars, internet, ATMs etc.)... however, for us, this exactly was what we were looking for. Long walks along remote beaches, marvellous sunsets every day, vivid nature, great sound, relaxing afternoon naps in the hammock, fantastic evenings and nights together on the veranda with great food, numerous chilled cervezas and several shots of Flor de Caña - and - last but not least - the GREAT company (thanks to Sarah and Phil) make this trip unforgettable. After visiting other parts of the country, we even went back to Buena Onda Beach Resort to celebrate New Year's Eve and spend our last days in Nicaragua! This place is highly recommendable!

From start to finish Buena Onda delivered. Whether it was arranging a tractor to drag our SUV off an escarpment on the beach that it was trapped on, at midnight, at high tide (thanks Phil!) Or whether you needed to beat a brazilian wolfpack out to the line up at Lances Left (fishing boat sorted in seconds!), or even if you just fancied gorging yourself on 2 pounds of fresh lobster (picked up, still wriggling 2 hours before we ate and expertly cooked up in butter and garlic).Nothing ever seemed to be an issue to arrange or fix, and when I wrenched my neck and shoulder whilst surfing Astillero, Sarah was quick to advise of a masseuse who had me back on the water the next day.

The rooms are spotless, airy, and well designed, with comfy beds. The bathrooms are again, kept spotless and boast hot water, which was a real treat after our previous accommodation in San Juan del Sur! The food is excellent, we were shocked to find a damn good Spaghetti Bolognese and Tuna with capers pasta (and even more shocked to get Al Dente pasta!) which proved to be a bonus after 3 weeks of typical Nica food. The cost of food and accommodation is very reasonable. The lodge is excellently placed to surf Santana’s (about a 5 minute walk) and Popoyo. Memories of walking round the headland at 6 in the morning to Popoyo will not be fading anytime soon. If you don’t know the area, Phil’s in depth knowledge of the best breaks, and the conditions required to make them fire means you will score it every day if you take his advice. The vibe is very laid back and it doesn’t suffer from the alienation from every day Nica life or culture that other surf lodges in the area obviously do. The fact that it isn’t too big gives it a very personal touch, and the hammock area is perfect for kicking back after a day on the water with a large Flor de Canas Rum and lazing with the lodge’s lovable canines, Marley and Bluesie. All in all, it is a great place to stay and one I will be heading back to as soon as possible.
