We've just had a two night bed and breakfast break at The Bell at Sax. We were given a warm welcome by friendly staff and shown to our clean and comfortable room with en suite bathroom. Breakfasts were good and plentiful. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings and the food was very good and reasonably priced - maybe the restaurant lacked a bit of atmosphere. A cosy lounge bar had an open fire. Our only concerns were that our room overlooked the small courtyard at the rear of the hotel which was used by smokers, not always quietly when others were already in bed. And the lack of dedicated parking was a bit of an issue.

Room Tip: Room 2 can be a little noisy from the smokers below

We are just back from spending two nights at the Bell at Sax. When we phoned (last minute) to make the arrangements the lady on the other end was very helpful and very accommodating. We found all the staff to be very helpful and the food was excellent. We had room 7 which was a large room and had a shower on suite with a view down the high street. TV, tea and coffee making facilities, toiletries and nice fluffy towels. Parking is limited in the town but the station car park is free and is only minutes away. We would have no hesitation in staying there again.

Room Tip: We didn't see inside any of the other rooms but we asked for a shower (as opposed to a shower ov...

Booked one Friday night in February, we were informed they were busy, but still fit us in which was nice. Taken straight to the table. No knives on side plates so had to use main knife for bread and not replaced with clean one. No drinks order taken, a waitress came to take food order but had to ask her back to get drinks. Did not get the water we asked for so had to find another member of staff for that. Starter of soup and mackerel were nice, Mains of lamb steak, just gristle I am afraid but the parsnip mash was tasty, partner had burger, could not eat it really, just not tasty.
Cappuccino had no sprinkles, no little after dinner mint or biscuit, did not bother with dessert. Sought someone out to bring bill. Manageress at reception as we left but did not acknowledge us at all. No 'thank you for coming and hope to see you again' ~ Shame. Wont bother returning.

My partner and I made an overnight stay during the weekend and were very pleased at the warm welcome we received and the clean and spacious rooms we were given. We had arrived early but this was no problem and staff were warm and friendly. Free parking was plentiful and nearby and we found The Bell easily. Food at The Bell was delicious - both dinner and breakfast were varied and locally sourced. We will certainly be back.

Stayed here for 1 night on 6 March. We had a double aspect view of the town which was lovely. The food in the restaurant was excellent as was the breakfast, local produce. Would be great for a family gathering.

We just wanted to say thank you for a lovely evening at the Bell. We had bought a Tickles voucher for our overnight stay and I was slightly concerned we might end up with a substandard room but that wasn't the case at all. Our room was beautiful. Elegant and tastefully decorated with lovely period details and a big, super clean bathroom. The staff were very busy but couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was excellent with an interesting wine list. Good service and a great, buzzy atmosphere. It's clearly a very popular place to eat and drink in the town so it's best to book a table in advance. The next morning our breakfast too was absolutely delicious with locally sourced produce and served in a lovely, sunny dining room. So nice to stay in a place where we received a warm welcome and felt really looked after. Can't praise the Bell highly enough. Well done to the team there. I hope we'll be able to come back soon.
