“One of our locals”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2013

This is the best of the 3 Indian restaurants in the road. Great food, good price, friendly service. We often get a take away delivered too. 10% discount always offered. We find the smiling waiters and the welcoming atmosphere one of the main reasons we return again and again.

“Very fine curry house....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2013

This is a wonderful little curry house in Sunbury on Thames that rivals any curry I have ever had. The staff are incredibly friendly and the service is excellent. The last two times I have been there, they even made a dish that was not on the menu. What other curry house would do that.
My only reservation about the restaurant has nothing to do with the attentive service or incredibly tasty curry dishes. It is such a shame that one is not able to see into or out of the windows a little more. The place is by no means dingy, but it could look a little more inviting. A minor criticism of one of the best curry houses I have ever eaten at.

“Lower Sunbury's hidden gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2013

We discovered this excellent little place quite by accident. Hidden between the more popular Shahin and the Indian Zest, you can easily walk past this place without realising it is there.

Having sampled the delights of all three I can honestly say that the service and food in here is far and away superior in both taste and value compared to its more high profile neighbours.

Great choice on the menu and the owner (Raj) will happily take you off piste if you have a request that's not on the main menu. A reasonable wine list, sensibly priced makes complements the menus and great service when we visited.

This is a real keeper and well worth a visit if you're out and about in lower Sunbury.

“Value for money and great Bengali cuisine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2013

Firstly let me say that I have travelled extensively and lived with Asian (indian & Pakistani) friends. I like to think I know my curry (sorry I know that sounds arrogant) and know the difference between the regional styles of indian cuisine.

There are three indian restaurants within walking distance in Lower Sunbury and this is the budget end of the range but for well cooked food - up there with the best.

Spice Culture doesn't come close to the elegance and style of Indian Zest which offers a completely different style of cuisine (mainly northern Indian) and atmosphere (upmarket) and it lacks the contemporary style of the Shahin but trust me the cooking here and the price for what you get is brilliant.

Personally i think the food is miles better than the Shahin and the people are sooo much nicer. At the Shahin you get ignored and pretty much treated with disdain by the staff whereas at Spice Culture you wont find a nicer front of house than Raj (the owners son) and also Emdat (forgive spelling) who is the main waiter here. What a lovely man he is, always polite and so smiley.

As for the food - if you like something a bit different and spicy I have no hesitation in recommending the Murgh Jhul Zaal which is my personal favourite. It stands up against any other indian dish I've eaten, it is truly tasty and with a nice chilli bite. The dish consists of pieces of chicken cooked in a thick sauce.

Bengali food is often mushy and lacks the definition of Punjabi food but this menu is good and Raj will always try and accommodate anything I've asked for off menu. A lot of restaurants under-cook Panner (Indian Cheese) as it is a difficult food to prepare (it should be deep fried and it spits when cooked) - Spice Culture cook it perfectly and if you like cheese I would recommend asking for a Shashlick Paneer starter (not on the menu).

Faults? Well put simply this restaurant feels like a cross between a Premier Inn restaurant and a 1980's front room. So if you want an intimate romantic dining experience this isn't for you. Personally I would trade expensive furniture for great food anytime - particularly when it is priced so reasonably.

If you want a take away - then try Spice Culture, the food is brilliantly cooked, there are enough different dishes on the menu to make it interesting and you wont find nicer staff to greet you.

This restaurant is run by wonderful people - you wont easily find a better and more friendly front of house than Raj (who is perfect and a real gentlemen).
