“Wonderful, relaxing garden with excellent cafe”
Reviewed 30 September 2012

We have been regular visitors to The Walled Garden since we found this hidden gem a few years ago. It is a beautiful, well tended garden with lots of climbers including clematis alongside roses, lavenders and various bedding plants (to name a few) with plenty of seating throughout where you can relax with friends, family or just a book. During the summer months there are brass and jazz band concerts held at weekends (weather permitting of course) which makes for a lovely day where you can either eat in the cafe or enjoy your own picnic whilst listening to the wonderful music. There are also sculpture exhibitions at various times of the year.

The cafe serves delicious homemade soups and lunches daily (except Mondays when it is closed) including various sandwiches, ploughmans, salads and filled croissants alongside scrumptious cakes, the majority of which are freshly baked by the ladies each day on the premises - these are not to be missed and you will be hard pushed to find better elsewhere in my opinion. Amongst those to tickle your taste buds are: Victoria Sponge, lemon drizzle, coffee, cherry & almond, carrot, ginger, fruit cake, brownies, tea cakes, muffins and of course scones (served with jam and clotted cream if you wish) with tea, coffee and cold drinks also available. Prices are very reasonable for the quality/portion sizes and the staff are both friendly and helpful. There is seating inside and out with the latter being especially lovely during the warmer months, however, the full length windows allow for great views of the garden whilst sitting inside at any time of year. Attached to the cafe is the embroidery gallery where you can view the latest exhibition and purchase gifts including a cookery book with the cafe's homemade recipes.

There are a number of car parks surrounding the garden within short walking distance that contain disabled parking spaces. The first hour is free then £1 after that or 2 hours free for disabled badge holders. I would certainly recommend a visit if in the area, especially if you enjoy looking around beautiful gardens and are partial to a slice of delicious cake!

“Gem of a Garden”
Reviewed 6 September 2012

Sunbury Park is a fairly large park in what would appear to be the grounds of a long since demolished country estate. There is a ha-ha, and numerous ornamental trees located throughout the park. However the main feature of the park is the gem of a small well-tended garden aptly named as the Walled Garden. The garden is roughly two acres in size and contains numerous flowers and shrubs, and is completely surrounded by a ten feet wall partly covered in climbers. Also within the garden can be found a lovely tea room, and an embroidery gallery. There are three car parks within the park situated in Green Street, The Avenue, and Thames Street. Entrance to the Park and Walled Garden is free of charge, as is parking for the first hour.
Across the road from the Walled Garden is the River Thames with a number of riverside pubs, and views across to Sunbury Weir.

“Morning coffee in the garden”
Reviewed 5 September 2012

Great coffee, and fantatic homemade cakes in fabulous surroundings. With the added pleasure of a leisurely stroll around the gardens admiring the sculptors that were in place. I especially loved the dragon fly and the rabbit. All in all, a lovely morning.
