A 45 minute flight from Naha (Okinawa) and a 10 minute drive from the Miyakojima airport (cheap taxi or hotel does run a shuttle bus), this place is a bit of a blast from the past. It's quite an old resort set out on its own on a beautiful stretch of beach. Nicely landscaped. Putting golf and pitch and putt out the back with swimming pools (1 large, 1 for kids and 1 for scuba divers) out the front. There are 2 wings. I would recommend the 'Coral Wing' on floors 7, 8 or 9 if you go. Our first room had no wi-fi!! We only found out by asking casually for the password! So they moved us the second day to a room with perfect wifi and a lovely view (864). However, the second room had no bilingual on the TV (which the first room did), the fridge was rubbish and the kettle was a thousand years old (they changed it happily). No English channels on the TV and no English papers in this resort - I think it was designed for Japanese back in the good old days of the 80's and 90's. Still - the service from everyone was superb. Very friendly and impressive all round. Food in this resort is OK - there are 3 or 4 different (fairly expensive) options and the brunch deal instead of breakfast is a good idea. There's a small convenience store in the basement with a small selection of stuff. Breakfast was always busy up to 9 am as a lot of people need to eat and get away to the airport for the first flights of the day. We enjoyed our stay here with our baby for a 3 night relax and forget about the world for a while. NOT pure luxury by any means, but it did the job nicely, as long as you are prepared to forget about the small inconveniences of normal upscale resorts. Aah yes.... ask for a non-smoking room or floor if that bothers you. Our room was fine - but there was a vague whiff of tobacco on our floor (8th) - nothing too bad. If you want to explore the island you're going to need to rent a car, which you can at the airport or from the hotel. We didn't. We were happy to stay put, relax, wander and sleep. Enjoy your stay if you go.

Room Tip: Go for a room on the 7th floor or higher of the Coral Wing. We stayed in 864 at the end of the corri...

This was paradise! I was there on business with the All-Japan Strongman Triathlon, a major event in Japan and particularly for one of the most wonderful cities I've ever been to, Miyako. The employees, food, cleanliness everywhere, the rooms, amenities, shopping on site, beach, security...all get AAAAA 100% top marks from me. I could not have been happier, so much so that I didn't want to leave and am just waiting until I can afford the luxury of a trip like this again! I did not spend money at the spa (was tempted) but it was beautiful and other travelers said it was great.

Outside of the hotel, touring the island, the community, public beaches, a neighboring island, and meeting the people in schools, restaurants, grocery stores, and so on...this was, too, AAAAA 100% amazing.

Room Tip: If you can get an ocean-view room, you'll be in heaven!

The hotel itself is a bit worn out. Beach is great but we got spooked off by the "poisonous Okinawa sealife" warning poster on the beach :-) Food at hotel is rather expensive. We ended up having lunch at town every day and hotel buffet for dinner. You need to rent a car / scooter to move around the island. The hotel location is a bit remote. And do not arrive to Mijyako without any Japanese yen in cash. None of the airport ATMs work with international cards. You need to find a post office ATM to draw money..

My boyfriend and I have just come back from a round trip which included staying here in total paradise in beautiful grounds. We are so glad we found this hotel. The staff were amazing. Especially daniel the life guard who gave us great knowledge of the island. The food was beautiful, very fresh & tasty everyday. It's on one of the nicest beaches of the islands. We have been around the world & this beats any other beach! Would love to go back...feels like you are on a relaxing retreat every moment you are there. Thanks for a perfect stay.

Stayed for 2 nights in off-season February, the hotel was very quiet. Nice hotel, has a good tropical resort feel to it. Spacious rooms, clean. It has a very Japanese feel to the place, in a good way, but do not expect an International American style of resort. The architecture of the main hotel is a big ugly tower block, typical of Japan functional architecture, but the restaurant and pool area is a nice low-rise tropical resort and garden style.
Fantastic beach right outside the hotel, white soft sand, clear clean blue water.
Great location for exploring the island. Not much in the local area, no shops or restaurants within walking distance, you have to take a taxi, then again the island of Miyakojima is a rural farm community in general and is not developed, not commercialized, which is its charm.
The restaurants in the hotel are astonishingly expensive for what they serve. A glass of beer is Y950! Fairly basic food, Japanese in style (even the so-called Western food is Japanese-style-Western). Tasty, but nothing special, certainly does not justify the price.

I can't say enough about the beautiful setting, gorgeous beach, incredible service and comfortable rooms at the Miyakojima Tokyu Resort. The staff bent over backwards to make sure we had a perfect stay -- helping with just about everything, including instructions with taxi drivers, arranging nature tours, answering our endless questions about the island (best beaches, restaurants, etc.), and the service folks in the hotel's restaurants and bar were equally helpful. I've been to other high-end hotels and restaurants in far-flung places before where the help was totally amateur but that was not the case here at all -- everyone at the Miyakojima Tokyu Resort was professional, accommodating and friendly. Our meals in the restaurants were all completely enjoyable. And we had possibly the freshest, best sushi of our lives at their sushi bar -- we were told that almost every delicacy was local -- and I believe it.

We stayed at the resort Dec. 19-23, 2010 (right before the big New Years' crowds) and had the beautiful island beaches to ourselves -- literally. And the snorkeling was every bit as incredible as we had read in the limited resources available. Air and water temperatures were great for December -- in the mid 70s F for both. Not bad for "winter" but I'd like to come back in the spring or fall when they're even warmer.

Not only was the hotel's beach near-perfect but Yoshino and Nagama beaches were just amazing -- white powder sand beaches with crystal-clear water teaming with an incredible variety of colorful, breathtaking fish swimming in the channels of the equally colorful and healthy coral reefs. The island really is an exotic joy and the locals are just some of the nicest folks you'll ever meet. We so enjoyed our encounters with the Avatar-like glow-in-the-dark bugs, the giant coconut crabs, and the (huge by our our standards) flying foxes (fruit bats) while on our guided night tour in search of the giant crabs. Nothing like them back home!

That all said, I do believe that having at least a limited knowledge of the Japanese language will enhance your experience greatly. My spouse and I both have some knowledge of the language, and it was not only immensely helpful, but so appreciated by the staff and locals. However, even if you are unable to learn a few niceties of the language, you should still be able to have a most pleasant stay as there are some really top-notch folks on the staff who do know some English and are more than ready help. So before you jump in a taxi for a drive to an outer beach, be sure you know how (or a staff member helps you) to tell the driver when you want to be picked up!

Misc.: Beach towels (free), fins and other snorkel gear and dive equipment can be rented at the hotel's beach and dive house if you don't bring your own. And you can rent lounge chairs for the beach, too. There is a training pool for divers and a wonderful big pool and poolside restaurant for pool lovers. And the glass bottom boat trip right from the hotel's dock was surprisingly enjoyable -- there were thick beds of colorful and healthy coral reefs to be seen teaming with those beautiful fish -- plus we got to see a big sea turtle! Finally, it looked like the golf courses at the hotel and around the island were all beautiful and in great shape -- and popular.

Best hotel in Miyako island. Miyako has the most beautiful sea with white sands. At Tokyu, we enjoyed delicious sushi with local fish. The master chef's special cooking was fantastic! We tried ''underwater walking'' with Tokyu hotel leisure desk - it's easy and very nice experience with very kind and professional staff. I would definitely recommend this to people who love beautiful sea.
