“The only true 5-star in the Vaucluse”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2014

We stayed at La Coquillade a year ago, and we are planning to return for the third time when I realized I had never posted a review. To us, Provence is lavender and La Coquillade, our home in Provence. Drive up to the wrought-iron gate, through a winding lavender-lined driveway, up to the reception area, where you are met by the doorman, welcomed and registered. Valet parking and golf carts will take you and your bags to your beautiful suite overlooking the Luberon mountains and Mont Ventoux, where a complimentary bottle of house wine sits chilled and waiting. Or you can explore the lovely grounds and sit in the lounge to gaze at the magnificent Luberon and Mont Ventoux. Elegant, opulent, yet Provencal-rustic at the same time. Cannot say enough about the hotel. And Mr Wunderli and his lovely wife Carmen are the most hospitable welcoming hosts, who always stop to mingle over the fabulous Michelin-star dinners! Truly, the only thing missing is music!

Room Tip: the suites are wonderful - ask for one with a view of the mountains

La Coquillade is a unique luxury estate nestling in the heart of the Luberon region of Provence Close to Rousillion, Gordes and some of the lesser known but equally beautiful perched villages of this lovely part of France. The estate itself has just 28 rooms and suites situated in secluded 'cottages' set in their own gardens around the central buildings housing the Michelin-starred fine dining room and more affordable main restaurant. There are two heated, large swimming pools surrounded by relaxing and private day beds. This is all set within the estate's own extensive vineyards. The whole is absolutely enchanting. Service and amenities are what you would expect from a top class five star establishment as are the prices! However the setting, attention to detail and overall excellence make a stay at La Coquillade good value for money. We will definitely be back.

As previous reviewers have said, La Coquillade is a resort - a collection of attractive renovated houses in a most beautiful setting with stunning views.
At present, building work is in progress but when telephoning to make our booking we found that the receptionist was totally honest about the effect that that might have on our stay and special rates are being offered.
Service was first class - our suite was superb - dinner in Le Gourmet restaurant was amazing.
A stunning stay - we were very reluctant to leave and will return soon.

Thanks a lot for your comment. La Coquillade becomes in 2015 Coquillade*****Village, with additional rooms and suites in a second "hamlet" and a very nice 1000m² luxury Spa. This is still under construction (take benefit of the special 30% discount in 2014!). Opening April 1st 2015! We hope to welcome you again and make you discover the "new" Coquillade! A new beautiful experience to live :-).

La Coquillade is a charming resort on a hill surrounded by a vineyard with beautiful views of Luberon. The suites are located in quaint stone houses around the main building. We stayed at the Superior Suite, a gorgeous and spacious suite with a bedroom, living room, separate closet & luggage area and bathroom, all tastefully decorated and very functional. We also had our own patio. The bed was very comfortable beds and the linens and towels were high quality. The suite felt like a home away from home, very comfortable, quiet and beautiful. The only negative experience was the Wifi, which is provided free, however, it only worked part of the time and management needs to fix the Wifi reliability. There are 2 computers in the lobby which can be used when Wifi is down. We ate dinner at the resort Michelin starred Le Gourmet restaurant, the food was delicious and beautifully presented, the setting very elegant and the service excellent. The grounds of the resort are gorgeously landscaped to fit the surrounding, giving it a feel of a countryside estate rather than a hotel. It is a Relais & Châteaux resort. The service at the resort is very friendly and professional from the General Manager Werner Wunderli who chatted with us each day to every person we interacted with. It is a wonderful base to experience Provence. You can visit enchanting Roussillon and Gordes, a 15 minutes drive. Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is a 50 minutes drive and Aix-en-Provence is an hour drive. However allow adequate time to enjoy the resort itself with the vineyard which is part of the estate.

Room Tip: The Superior Suite is gorgeous.

Thank you very much for the nice details you gave about our property and our beautiful region (to explore absolutely!). Regarding the wifi, you are right: since we experienced some technical problems the whole technology will be changed during the next winter time. We will reopen on April, 1st 2015 with an operating free wifi and.... a beautiful 1000m² Spa. It would be a pleasure to welcome you again at La Coquillade.

The hotel is currently going under construction to add a brand new spa but also 35 more bedrooms up from the current 26, to open in summer 2015.

It’s a pity. What we really liked about La Coquillade was precisely that you could have all the luxury of bigger estates (3 restaurants including a Michelin star one, a big pool, room service, bike rentals…) with the smaller touches of a normal size hotel. With 63 rooms, the atmosphere will certainly change.

Talking about atmosphere, what makes La Coquillade special is it’s wonderful setting (an old hamlet which has been restored and sits on top of a hill overlooking the Lubéron park) and its staff. They are all utterly professional but more importantly very friendly and down to earth.

So my main tip is : get there this summer.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, try to book room 603. It is away from the main buildings with a garden and am...

Thanks a lot for your comment and don't worry, the "spirit" of the property won't change since we know that this spirit is one of our "5" stars and we absolutely want to preserve it. Our wonderful team will also still be here in 2015 :-). Please come back and experience La Coquillade again (the Spa will be "waouh"!).

We had an amazing stay at La Coquillade. Instead of a typical hotel rooms, it offered villa like stone houses each with a few units. We enjoyed after a long day of exploration or wine tour we could relax by the pool to watch sunset. The food was outstanding. We had dinner and lunch there. Usually hotel food is more for convenient but we had the best meals here. If you stay here make sure you go to their restaurants.

Location was excellent to explore the Luberon area, both by bike and by car. We went further out to Pont du Gard and the drive was easy.

I also had a massage while my husband went for a bike ride. The massage was good but it didn't have a spa yet. It's the only thing that this place seems missing - a spa.

Room Tip: No bad room in the property. If you want good rate go off season.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at La Coquillade during Oct 2013. The room is great, the view is stunning and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Location is very convenient and you can visit several perched villages with unique scenic view (e.g. Roussillon for red cliffs, Gordes for the overlooking of the beautiful Luberon, Bounieus for a nice light lunch) by 15-20 min drive. The food in Le Gourmet is wonderful and we particularly enjoyed the lunch at the patio with the stunning view of the wine yard. In particular, special thanks to Mauro who made the best Grasshopper. Sardena Island, and other cocktails for us and he was so nice and introduced some good places in Italy that help us to plan our next trip to Italy. We would definetly go back again and had recommend to all our friends on this wonderful hotel.
