“A Great Discovery by Chance”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

We had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful night at this beautiful Inn. From the moment we arrived we felt at home. The staff bent over backwards to assist. Our room was 211 which was a corner room and very large. We were there to celebrate my God Parents 50th anniversary and we enjoyed a wonderful reception and evening meal in the banquet room. Our meals both in the evening and in the morning were very good and had beautiful presentation. The grounds offered many areas for a relaxing afternoon by the water. We look forward to returning to this fantastic location.

Dear FredTracie, Thank you for your wonderful review of your stay with us, and for adding new photos to our gallery for other readers to enjoy. We hope that your godparents enjoyed their celebrations – that's quite a milestone. There can really be no greater compliment to us than when we are told that a guest felt at home in our establishment. That the food, the service, the hospitality and friendliness added to this special event is incredibly rewarding. Thank you again. When you return, consider the variety of seasons – the autumn is spectacular, the winter is another experience altogether – cozy, fresh, quiet. A warm drink in the hot tubs beneath a winter sky is a little special. We look forward to seeing you again. Best regards.

We stayed at the Mill for the last part of our summer holiday. We had a wonderful romantic getaway. We enjoyed the discovery meal, it was amazing, went for a walk and returned to the bar to enjoy the music being played by a singer/guitar player, wonderful way to enjoy the evening. Our room was great, we had a couch and chairs to sit in to have a glass of wine together. The beds and pillows are comfortable, we had a great time, thanks again! I always swallow when I see the bill, but every time we have stayed here, I feel it is worth it.

Dear Dawn M., Thank you very much for letting us know how much you enjoyed your stay with us, and for sampling (and delighting in) the Discovery menu, the property, the musical ambience of the bar lounge at the Heron Room. We are grateful for having been a part of your summer vacation, of offering you the quiet and beauty of the Gatineau Park. Most of all, we are pleased that you chose The Mill for a return visit, and we hope that we will see you again in the future. Best regards.

I attending my brother's wedding at the Wakefield a few weeks ago, and have mixed feelings about the event. The location, rooms, and food were beyond satisfactory- they were fantastic! The service and organization of the place, however, left a lot to be desired. The bride was told she would be able to set up the evening before (after 8:30 pm I believe), but when she arrived there was another wedding happening and had to drive from Ottawa the morning of her wedding to arrange the tables in the dining area, the other option being that she return at 12am!

I was part of the wedding party, and just before the wedding, I was looking for the man who was supposed to be helping to organize the event. He was no where to be found.

The dinner was delicious, and the service staff friendly, but the overall service was poor. No water or menus on the head table, and only menus on half of the tables. I had to get up to ask for water, drinks and menus at the front desk. The guests spent most of the evenings with their glasses empty, and many guests, including the bride and groom didn't have anything in their glasses to "cheers" with during the speeches. At one table, only half of the table was offered wine, and one of the guests had to get up and search for staff to serve the other half of the table. I am not sure if it was a case of being understaffed, or disorganization, but the dinner left much to be desired.

The atmosphere was spectacular and it ended up being a wonderful day because of the occasion, but I would have expected much more from a venue priced as such.

I would likely return for the food and location, but I would not recommend relying on the service, especially for an event as important as a wedding.

Dear AlliegatorA, We appreciate very much that you took the time to leave your comments regarding your time at The Mill. The unfortunate events of the wedding you attended have been brought to our attention elsewhere here on Trip Advisor. To you, we sincerely apologize for the unfulfilled expectations you encountered, as our intention was to ensure your complete enjoyment of such an important occasion. Our staff have fully reviewed the circumstances that contributed to the service difficulties during the wedding meal, and measures have been put in place to avoid this happening again. We realize that it is of little consequence after the fact; again, we apologize.

Thank you, however, for your fairness in pinpointing the aspects of your stay that you enjoyed, such as the cuisine, rooms, staff friendliness and enjoyment of the property. We very much value that you would consider visiting with us again, and look forward to having you as our guest. Kindest regards.

Nice hotel to spend a night in the countryside. Hotel is comfortable, a relax environment. To enjoy all of it, consider having a nice. Cocktail at the bar, a dinner at the restaurant, nice pools and saunas you can also use. Rooms were charming and staff us eager to make your stay a pleasant one.

My wife and I celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary here on August 11, 2014. We arrived on a Monday for a one night stay. Dinner was good but expect to pay $ 11 for a 6 on. glass of house wine. If you like the wilderness, this is the place to be but like I said I found it a bit expensive for what you get. I also experience great discomfort the next day. I suspect the scallops I had for supper were not totally cooked. I called the Muse restaurant and had to leave a message. It has been almost 2 days now and no one has called me back.

Dear bmw l, We apologize that you have not received a callback. Your phone message is not within our system for some reason, and so our head chef is asking if you might kindly email him directly at chef@wakefieldmill.com. A wonderfully managed inn. Stay in the new building. Rooms large and well appointed. Bathtub is an experience. Pool and hot tub worth a visit. Visit Lester Pearson gravesite up the hill. Very Canadian. Brunch is worth the stay. An easy weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The town of Wakefield down the hill worth a visit.

Dear gorlinjay, Thank you for your recent comments about your stay with us. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your room in the Eco River Lodge, especially the tub and nearby outdoor pool and whirlpool bath. Our brunch seems to be a destination favourite. Not many know that our former Prime Minister was laid to rest in the MacLaren Cemetery up the hill and around the bend, so thank you for informing other readers. Again, thank you for coming to the Mill and letting know of your enjoyment. Best regards,

just got back from night at in a large room with king size bed and a view on the little falls. The room was very clean. People were very nice. We decided not to dine at the restaurant as it seemed a bit pricy. The hotel was full but we didn't feel at all it was crowded. They also have a small pool that is very clean and relaxing but watch out for the bees. Very good idea if looking for a little break and relaxation near the nature.

Room Tip: better chose a king size bed room with a view on the falls and with breakfast included. The price di...

Dear Sonia, Thank you for your kind review and for being our guest for the night. Being a boutique hotel, our accommodations in the main Mill building where you stayed number 27 rooms, with many of our guests exploring the outdoor areas. As a result, the common areas of the Mill (lounge, dining rooms and spa) rarely feel congested, as you noted. Our salt-water pool over by the Eco River Lodge (another 13 rooms of guest accommodations) is quiet and near the river – we're glad your enjoyed it. Being in the forest, we must share space with a few insects who come our way, but the bees are generally a friendly bunch who keep to themselves and rarely linger. In fact, we hope that when you have a chance to return, you might try one of our desserts, where the honey they produce is featured. Again, our thanks.
