“Wonderful Circle of Misse Writers' Workshops and Retreats”
Reviewed 6 October 2011

This writers' haven offers a variety of courses for aspiring or experienced writers. They also offer cooking classes. I took "A Writer Progresses" which is 5 days of intensive writing. Carol Topolski was our author in residence. She and Wayne Milstead (who with Aaron runs The Circle of Misse), provided invaluable feedback and encouragement. Classes are very small and supportive. The cost of this particular course includes everything - food, stimulating side trips, and lodging. Aaron prepared us fabulous gourmet meals.
The retreat house is an ancient stone abode that is lovingly decorated and maintained. You have the choice of staying at a local b and b or at the retreat house. I stayed at the house and it was a great experience. The gardens are beautiful and tables are set up for writing there in the warmer weather. My only regret is how far away this little gem is
from Chicago - I miss it already!

“Relaxing and productive, an amazing retreat experience!”
Reviewed 3 October 2011

The experience at Circle of Misse is absolutely amazing -- I took the writing workshop with them, and they really make sure that you don't have to worry about anything. They've created the perfect writer's environment, with a beautiful garden full of life, a big library for inspiration, and fantastic food to remind you that you're in France, after all!
They also make sure it's a really constructive and nurturing environment, so you can feel free to let your imagination go without judgment. They're just there to help you work, which was personally a great relief.

“House of creativity and fun in the Loire Valley!”
Reviewed 5 February 2011

With next to no experience in writing, I took a four day writing course at Circle of Misse and it was so much more than I expected. Not only are you able to write with as much or as little instruction as you like, but you get to experience the Loire Valley of France as well. We went on outings almost everyday to nearby attractions, we were able to try a little painting, we drank plenty of wine and had amazing meals everyday made by resident chef and cooking course teacher, Aaron. It's a great mix of fun and work in a beautiful house, and Wayne couldn't be a better course leader. I would love to go back and try one of their painting or cooking courses!
