“BEWARE of Fornace Mian which shipped us defective glass and refused to respond to any correspondence.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 December 2011

BEWARE OF FORNACE MIAN. They sold us defective merchandise, but worse, they would not respond to our inquiries. We are sad to report that Fornace Mian shipped us defective glass from what we were promised during our visit to their factory, and they would not respond to any subsequent contacts we attempted to make with them. At their factory, we purchased a vase at a substantial cost which was promised to be defective-free. Yet, the vase that they shipped to our home a month later was a defective vase with a chip and crack that we saw at their factory on a vase during our visit. We were promised that the vase we would receive would not have that defect. We have had a glass expert look at our vase, and it's clear that the chip and fissure leading into the interior of the vase was not caused by shipping but was in the glass prior to being sent. Most disappointing is that the company has not answered a single constructive, polite email or contact that we have sent to it. Thus, they leave us no choice but to conclude that Fornace Mian operates a "bait-and-switch" business in a fraudulent way, and they try to leave you no recourse once you are back home thousands of miles away. However, having two of us in the family who have worked for the Attorney General's Office, we will be exhausting our recovery efforts just on principle and to try prevent others from becoming victims. We thought we had found one of the reputable glass manufacturers/dealers in Murano, but Fornace Mian showed we were mistaken.

“The Charm is NOT in the Glass”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2011

The charm of Murano is not in the glass or the glass blowers. This is a good factory but that is what it is.

The charm of Murano is in Murano. The setting and the people. Stoll around the grounds and enjoy both. Glass is glass. Nice but not the major attraction of this beautiful island. Take a half day from Venice.

“When visiting Venice, a boat ride to Murano is a must! Take time to visit an authentic factory and by only objects and jewelery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2011

Beautiful island a short boat ride from piazza San Marco - allow at least half a day and take in the charms of the most ancient skill.
Every time I visit I enjoy it a little more!

“Marvellous Theatre of Glass Blowing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2008

Like all tourists, we went to Murano to see and buy Venetian Glass.
What we really wanted to see was the glass being made and this was possible, with a flourish at Formia Fornace.
Tourists were encouraged to wander through, but on the outside looking in, the glass blowing factory.
Artisans were making all sorts of different pieces from scratch so you could stand and watch nothing become something beautiful right before your eyes. Most pieces we watched took about 10-15 minutes to make and although not required, most spectators rewarded the "show" with a coin in the glass jar.
A fabulous hour spent watching most beautiful artistry.
