“Stopped for a drink, stayed the day.”

After leaving Bariloche, the road winds south through spectacular mountain scenery, until 2 hrs later you reach El Bolson. By fortune, I wanted to try out some modern mountain bikes, so I hired one from a dealer near the municipal offices. Where can I go ? El Bosque!!! The 28 gears got a workout up the steep trail to the refugio ( 1.5 hrs ) yes Think Twice ! It really was steep, although you are rewarded with spectacular valley views. In spring with snow this would be very pretty. At the refugio there is food available for walkers recovering before the descent ( much faster by bike). I later visited the Hippie Markets in El Bolson Town- really good quality merchandise and well organised. I had another excellent take away meal from the food sellers here who had very hygienic caravans. Overall , a great little town with very pretty attractions.

“Steep climb up but not to be missed”
Reviewed 3 February 2013

Loved the sculpted trees and the views across the valley are spectacular. Be warned it is a steep 1km walk to the forest and another half hour further up to the refugio for a well earned pizza and beer! Well worth the walk if you are feeling fit.

“Is Nice!”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

Is nice but is too hard to arrive. Is like 1 hour walking uphill and you have to be fit to do it.

“Steep Hike, Imaginative, Fabulous View!”
Reviewed 11 February 2012

We enjoyed a cloudless, blue sky to truck up the trail to the Bosque Tallado, then (don't miss it) Refugio Piltriquitron. A delightful, creative, international, collaborative effort well worth a visit. My favorite was the reclining woman carved from a horizontal trunk. Great views, a super picnic spot, and a dynamite view from the Refugio above. Do take good walking/hiking shoes, though. I don't know how all of those Argentine tourists did it in their flip flops!
