For £35 per night, you can't really grumble too much! The room was basic but clean, very hot though!
It's a seemingly popular pub/restaurant, so the noise from the bar was very loud and would disturb light sleepers until the bar closed.
The staff were very friendly, helpful and I have no complaints. The door staff being present on a Saturday was reassuring and they were also very friendly and helpful.
Would I stay again? Probably!

The room was ok, if a bit shabby. Very basic. Food and drink were fine. Rather noisey in thecbar but it was Friday night. It was later that the nightmare started. Some poeple started banging their doors from around 1am to 3am. Then the fire alarms started going off repeatedly at 5. No one could tell me what was wrong, or knew what to do. Dreadful night.

Great place to stay, good value. The people make the place come alive, helping the 7 weeks pass by...

If you want helping out ask for claire... Claire knows the crack.. course Lisa too. Deb can't seem too get enough of the bar.
And not sure if you wanna give claire the mic... thats just asking for trouble

Got better and better day by day...
Especially the sausages.

See you soon

Room Tip: Room 118, 118

If your looking for great value for money, comfortable surroundings, lovely, friendly staff.....LOOK NO FURTHER!, The new management of the Grand Hotel has totally got the recipe right, homely atmosphere combined with traditional beers and lagers, with a very rustic homemade menu to match. Great!!! and on weekends transforms into a livly band venue to suite the all! .................... Again, Cracking value for money

Room Tip: the weekends do get quite bust in the bar, so ask for a room maybe away from the front if you plan on having an early night........also, ideal for contractors (as i am) being directly opposite the train staion makes traveling here very easy!

The Hotel has had a complete transformation and much needed major investment. You can rest assured the standards of service and cleanliness since the modernisation will impress. I've been in there a few times now for bar meals on work related business and one of my ex staff has stayed there for quite a while.

See, the people of the town in Port Talbot are under the surface quite proud of their history and The Grand is very much from that era, thankfully now its propelled very much into the present. Families with young children may prefer the Aberavon Beach Hotel especially in the summer (For the beach) but if your not in that category then you have arrived at your destination ..

Tourist tips ;-Nearby what is there to see. Port Talbot is the birthplace of actors Richard Burton, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Ivor Emmanual and Michael Sheen. It is the hometown of Comedian Rob Brydon ( one of the ex Troubadour bar staff who mad his mark !).
On the same road 300 metres East of the Grand Hotel is the Port Talbot YMCA where both Richard Burton and Anthony Hopkins started out to stardom. Richard Burtins home is maybe 2.5 miles North of the Grand Hotel and Anthony Hopkins similarly 2.5 miles to the East. The seafront at Port Talbot has one of the countries best beaches and is used by anglers, surfers, kite surfers, canoes, and many other sports. About 15 mile to the West is the Gower Peninsula. To the east is the slowly decaying town of Porthcawl that recently replaced the sand on its beach with tarmac (Our rival resort so not so serious please !). Cardiff the Capital of Wales and amazing shopping is 27 miles to the East. Port Talbot is now recognised as one of the best 3 mountain biking locations in the world. The sport is taking off in the valleys north of the town however facilities for visitors are lagging behind. Here is an excellent base for mountain bikers.
Another holiday loction in Port Talbot that may interest some is the L&A Riding Centre in Goytre where chalets can be rented in the countryside.( Another story ) Hope you have found the review useful and previous comments by many , myself included relate to this hotels past, so unless you travel by Tardis have no worries !

Room Tip: Simple -ask for one !
