Didn't stay here ate in the bar area next to the hotel today. I had small fish and chips £ 5 something was ok didn't like the silly basket they served it in. My husband paid £ 8.00 ? + for the fish platter. Well that was a disappointment you ready; 1x cooked prawn, 2x oysters, 3 calamari in batter 1x slice of bread a few rocket leaves. So not worth the cost better off going to the quay getting it from there. The bar is in need of TLC however the staff were polite and helpful and the choice of beers were good if you want to try local beers. Perhaps the rest of the menu ( also needs TLC) is ok ?

Room Tip: Give it a go but be aware it might not be what you thought

Real English ambience, roaring fire, excellent ales. Lunch, served very rare beef so had to send it back; that's OK if you like it but not if you like it cooked! Did not stay in hotel, so review based only on bar/restaurant

It looks as though somebody has emptied an antique warehouse and crammed it all into this pub/hotel. Forget a visit to the art gallery, just walk round the hotel!
I liked it but I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea and other people from work who stayed here didn't like it whilst others loved it - suppose that's true of anywhere.
The room was a fair size, the floors aren't level but this is character. They were clean and the en-suite was a good size.
Breakfast was very good.
I like the bar attached to the hotel - good range of beers direct from the micro brewery at the rear of the hotel.
I would stay here again for the experience.

Just been awarded 1 star for food hygiene and taken out of the next good beer guide as the resident dog regularly licks beer from the beer taps! Says it all really. Feel sorry for the brewery in the grounds as Farmers ales are brilliant.

Last weekend my partner and I visited the Blue Boar for an evening meal as we were staying in a local B&B. As a person in my fifties I have experienced many fancy restaurants, bistros, cafes both here and abroad; I love food.
The meals we had did not disappoint as so often a meal out does. The portions were just the right size, our steaks were cooked just as we asked and the puddings were divine.
The Blue Boar bitter was delicious and the selection of whiskies more than satisfying, (the Connemara to be highly recommended).
The service was excellent and the setting cosy and friendly - really, everything one would want from a pub meal.

You either get a really good meal here or really quite disgusting. Tuesday is the worst evening. One week I had lasagne verdi, which was hot on the outside and frozen on the inside. Last night I had burnt spare ribs. But I have had some very good meals there and I keep going there in the hope there will be consistency. Their beer range is excellent. Their rooms are very variable. Wireless coverage is hopeless. The whole place has so much potential to be fantastic and full of ancient character.

Quirky, unique, relaxed, friendly. You are in an ancient building, in a small coastal town. I presume those reviewers who were disappointed were expecting 5* luxury and service - at a 3* price. It's a place full of charm and surprises. That it looks old and dusty didnt mean it was: i found it spotless throughout. The menu looked great (though i didnt eat there - only a very tasty full english breakfast) but the restaurant seemed busy. Value for money. Lovely staff. And i'm definitely going back.
