On a recent nostalgic trip to Maldon, Heybridge Basin and Millbeach caravan park, where we had holidays in our youth, I stayed at Limburn House with my two sisters (we are all over 50) and my father, 86.
The sisters stayed in the family room, with a king-size bed and two singles, big enough for adults.
As soon as we arrived from Hertfordshire, landlady Carol immediately made us a pot of tea and we all had a chat. She and her husband are really welcoming and friendly.
Our rooms were superb, spotlessly clean and spacious. In the heatwave we appreciated the cooling fans and each room has a TV. Fresh clean, white towels each day.
A bonus was being able to sit in the guests' lounge, also with TV, or in the garden. Every time we went out, looking out over fields and horses roaming, we we were asked if we wanted the umbrella. One night we had some snacks and wine in the garden. It was great to feel you didn't have to be stuck in your room.
The breakfast was on a par with anything (or even better) than you'd get in a hotel. Full English, lots of fresh fruit, cereals, toast, and a large array of local jams and marmalades from Wilkin and Sons of Tiptree.
The tea/coffee making facilities in the room are just what a 'tea bag' such as myself need - lots of tea bags, loads of milk - even little choccy biscuits if you get peckish. There's a DVD players, iron, ironing board, hairdryer. Carol has thought of everything to make this a home from home.
In other words, really nice touches that make the stay go well.
The guest house is on a busy road, but you cannot hear it inside, and we felt it was only a small downside on a fantastic place to stay.
We'll be back.

Room Tip: The family room is very big and at the top of the accommodation. A stairlift gives peace of mind to those who have trouble with stairs. Downstairs room may be cooler in the heatwave.

Let me start out by saying I thrive on attention to detail as ex military , I can be quite precise and fussy and need three basic elements when I stay over at a location - Somewhere to park my car that is safe, I must have "comms" (internet and mobile phone coverage) and a good nights sleep.

I recently took my family into Essex, we had a weekend in London planned and I use Limburn house every week for work.

I have two daughters age 12 and 13 - who simply cannot survive without an internet signal (Phone's Ipads and Facetime) and are fussy eaters. Considering some of the major hotel chains and high costs - Limburn was an obvious choice and the girls had their own room (twin) whilst my partner and I shared a family room.

Breakfast consists of a full english - and if you have a daughter like mine that will only eat cereal, or the other one survives on toast and scrambled eggs, Carol and Richard cannot do enough to ensure everyone has a full tummy on a morning.

The girls loved having their own room and bathroom (how long does it take a teenager to get ready???) and each bedroom is kitted out with flat screen TV's dvd's etc.

The trip was fantastic the accommodation faultless as it usually is - It was just like staying in a big house where someone else makes breakfast!

If you want total peace of mind in booking a room for a few nights or longer - Limburn is ideal. And I say that from experience having traveled with work for 20 years.

I stay at Limburn House with work on a weekly basis - and have done so now for about 5 months. The Property is worth a special mention - as the common perception of a Bed and Breakfast is that you actually stay in someone's private residence.

At Limburn this isn't the case, as the actual accommodation section is a completely separate building.

This includes a long kitchen for guests, a dining room / come seating area again for guests with a big TV if you fancy watching a movie etc whilst having a bite to eat, and then each room is kitted out with TV's, Iron's, ironing boards, tea and coffee facilities and on suite.

When I come in from work on an evening I need news, internet and something to eat and some privacy.......I've been pestered all day long at work - I need some quiet time on an evening.

Like I said, I'm fussy..................and Limburn really does tick all my boxes........or I wouldn't stay there every week!!!

Room Tip: The Purple room offers a level of luxury, lovely for a weekend away.

Stayed at Limburn House on business 2 or 3 nights a week for over 2 years. A real home from home. I can not praise Carol and Richard the proprietors highly enough. It was a delight to stay there. The breakfast is worth an extra special mention!
