“A quiet backwater, well worth a visit.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2013

Heybridge Basin is a wonderfully peaceful and quirky little backwater on the Essex Coast. A good place to visit just to while away a few hours by the Blackwater estuary. The car parking is free. There are two pubs, both of which get good reviews. We went into the tearoom owned by Tiptree, the jam and chutney maker. Cannot praise the tearoom enough - an excellent selection of meals, cakes, cream tea, etc. Service was first class, friendly and efficient. Give it a try if you are in the area. Well worth it.

“Refuelling station for seawall walkers!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2013

We regularly go to the Basin especially in the summer. We always walk there from Heybridge, along the canal towpath which is very well maintained. The canal meets the river with a series of lock gates, there are two pubs which serve very good food and drink. There is also the Tearooms (which I haven't been in) which serve the famous Tiptree Jam. You can walk either way along the seawall from here, one way will take you past Osea Island to Goldhanger and further to Tollesbury, the other curves around past the lakes back to Heybridge.

“A pleasant break”

Two good pubs and pleasant views of the River Blackwater, Osea Island and a picturesque working lock. Worth a detour from Maldon for a lunch break.

“Plenty to view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013 via mobile

A great place to visit, and view an English lock side village full of charm, two pubs which serve meals and an excellant cafe, which serves local made Tiptree Jams. Great views of Osea Island, Maldon and the River Blackwater Estuary.

“Heybridge Basin”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 November 2013

Heybridge Basin is a fairly quaint, tiny area just outside Maldon which is worth a visit as it has a wonderful tea shop which serves the most fantastic lunches either inside (fairly small) or if the weather is good it is great to sit beside the water, watching the boats. There are also a couple of pubs and you can walk along a long pathway at the side of the river which is very pleasant
