“A highly satisfied 'gluten free' customer”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

I telephoned the pub the day before Father's Day hoping that they would have a table for 3, for Father's Day. I had been searching online for somewhere that catered for a 'gluten free' diet and a choice of more than the usual 'carvery' and boring 'ice cream' for dessert. The gentleman who answered the telephone told me that they were full but if we could get there for 12noon, he could let us have a table as long as we had finished for 2pm. I asked if it was disabled access as my father is in a wheelchair, the gentleman confirmed there were two steps up to the table. After trawling the internet for hours, I agreed it would be ok and we would somehow manage the wheelchair and the two steps.

When we arrived at the pub, the gentleman who I had previously spoken to arrived with a portable ramp so the problem with my father and his wheelchair was resolved, result!

Upon opening the menu, my father was amazed at the choice of gluten free starters, mains and desserts, this was certainly a Father's Day with a difference! The food arrived and it definitely didn't disappoint, amazing from start to finish!

Great staff, good value, excellent quality food - we will definitely be going back soon.........

Dear Tina W

So pleased to hear that you all had a lovely Fathers Day at The Waggon and Horses. Thank you so much for your review.

We always try our best to provide a menu that is varied for our gluten free friends who visit us as we too appreciate that a simple 'carvery and ice cream' is not acceptable which is why the majority of our whole menu from starters to dessert is, or can be requested, gluten free

Naturally we love to have a 5* review on trip advisor but what makes us even more proud is to know that we made such an important day as Fathers Day a memorable one for you all in terms of food and meeting your requirements.

We so hope that you visit us again and you can be assured that you will receive the same quality of food and service.

Look forward to seeing you

Kind Regards

“A lovely meal and a great venue.”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

We visited on Wednesday Lunch time. 11th June.
We have been a few times and always enjoyed not only the food but the friendliness of the staff and of course the Beer is pretty good also.
My wife has to follow a gluten free diet and the staff and menu show a great understanding of the condition. A good number of the meals are available gluten free and the dessert menu my wife loves. Very few places offer a gluten free dessert at all, but the Wagon and Horses offers a real selection.
I choose a Salmon meal from the specials board and it was beautiful. My wife went for the home made fish and chips which she thoroughly enjoyed.
We followed up with treacle sponge for my wife and cheese and biscuits for me.
Everything was lovely.
This place is not really close to home for us otherwise we would visit more often.
However it really is worth a visit, we are going to visit for a meal in the evening ASAP.

Dear Brian_clifford

How lovely for you to put such a positive response on Trip Advisor with regards to your visit at The Waggon and Hoses, Oxspring. Thankyou.

Gluten free food is an area which we have developed over time resulting in the majority of our menu being gluten free now as we appreciate that this is vital to allow people who are gluten intolerant to be able to go out and enjoy good homecooked food. Desserts... well what can we say? It would be sacrilege to have such mouth watering desserts available but then alienate our gluten free friends by not making them gluten free where possible. Glad that you enjoyed them.

It is a shame you live quite a distance away but be assured that whenever you can find the time to visit us then you will always receive a warm welcome from the team at The Waggon.

Thank you again.

Kind Regards

“Consistently good”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

This is my parent's favourite pub and over the years we have eaten here regularly. I don;t believe we have ever had a poor meal which is quite an achievement. I can see why my parents like it so much, there is a good atmosphere and you get a warm welcome from the serving staff who seem to find time to talk even at busy times. On this occasion we were served by Helena who was efficiently attentive and had the ready smile the staff always seem to wear.
Outside, as noted in other reviews, the building and car park does need some tidying up but once you walk through the door you are in a traditional attractive and warm old Yorkshire pub with an extensive menu and draught Timothy Taylor on tap. The menu has recently changed but still offers a day time more limited 2 for £9.99 menu as an alternative to the usual more pricey a la carte fare. On both menus, a good gluten free option is offered to most meals.
Very recommended.

Dear hewhotravels

Thank you for your positive review on Tripadvisor and taking the time to write it.

We are pleased that you say you always enjoy food at The Waggon and that you are continuing to do so. We are always striving to provide excellent quality food so that you may continue to do so in the future.

We acknowledge your comments regarding the car park and we agree that this is an area that requires improvement as it does not reflect the quality awaiting customers inside. We are looking to remedy this in the very near future.

Thankyou again for your review and please be assured that we look forward to welcoming you in the future and providing you with a warm welcome and excellent quality homemade food.

Kind Regards

“Couldn't fault it”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

Had a meal Monday lunch It was a quiet time. Chose meat and potato pie from the 2 meals for £9-99 menu didn't have to wait long for it, the meat had no fat in it and the pastry and potato well cooked. Had rice pudding with jam to follow it too was nice. The landlord and staff very nice and friendly, place clean, I will definitely be returning again some time soon.

Thank you for rating us 5 star on trip advisor. It is reviews like yours that make us all here at the Waggon feel like we are being successful in our aims for the business.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed it at The Waggon and that you will be returning again. The meat and potato pie is a Waggon favourite so you are In good company trying this dish!

We remember your visit and you said you were looking forward to the desserts so are pleased that you enjoyed your rice pudding. As I remember it was a late addition to the dessert menu as it had just come out of the oven - good timing :)

Once again thank you for your visit and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
