“A little bit outdated....”
Reviewed 26 March 2012

First trip to Maldives for us - we have booked 4 nigths on Biyadhoo and maybee our expectations was a little more than a outdated hotel on a really beautifull island. The room was clean but very tired - and could really need a makeover.
The wauw effect was totally missing - it could have been a old hotel anywhere in the world.
The beach and the snorkling was great - the restaurant very big and maybe not so cosy. But good food and service from the staff. The bar was cosy- but very busy and maybe to small for so many guests.
After 2 days they offered us a upgrade to their sister hotel Makunudu - and off we go.....

1st time to Biyadhoo, in march... great weather, as to be expected... the reef was great... plenty of fish to see, glorious eagle rays...lots of activity... only dislike was the accomodation....two story.. not too bad if your on the lower part but a pain if you are on the top deck... rooms are basic but clean, but such a drag to cart all your snorkelling gear bed cushions.etc. down to the beach, also the main beach is on one side of the island and everybody sits there.... not my cup of tea! we found a little bit of beach on the other side to relax quietly....quite a lot of the island you could not get into the sea safely... one jetty collapsed and derelict....food good but predictable... NO CHEESE!!!!! had to ask our great waiter to find some...every day I got two frozen slices of craft cheese slices!!!!lol
air con in the dining room was not working so it was soo hot!! would have been better if they opened it up.....bar was good, drinks good, draught saint miguael,
wine by the glass....no faults......would we go again.... If the changed the two story... maybe.......price was good... well done to Quoni....and BA... flight was a dream never paid a penny for drinks etc. great service ( note this 1st choice!)....we know where we are going next year............prices allowing.... luckily never had to pay the new tax on departure 25$ each... this is a bit naughty, will put lots off.........Spartacus

Room Tip: Lower floors.. nearer the beach...

Second visit to this beautiful island and the first time time that we've visited an island here twice. We love the Maldives, firstly for the fantastic marine life, you get it all here and secondly for the beautiful islands and this is a lovely one. The reef is just amazing and within seconds of entering the water nearly every day this time we came across eagle rays who were happy to swim along side you and perform for you too. The snorkelling really is fantastic, all the islands that we have been to before have had fabulous reefs but this is the best in respect of the fish etc. that you come across, will be interested to hear about any other good ones for our next visit. We do not dive so cannot comment on this as some reviews have done but the dive team always appeared to be professional & knowledgeable and whilst there we heard nothing bad about them but saw loads of people going out whether on the house reef or on the dhoni's. For us the best snorkelling was from passage 7 to 3 which we did daily, sometimes twice a day and depending on the currents you can get round the whole island which we did twice this trip. We saw so may eagle rays this time it was amazing, along with turtles, loads of morays, lion fish, bat fish, sting rays, sharks and numerous different fish. Every time you go out you will see something different from before. The island is lovely, very small & yes very basic but what more do you need in the Maldives. We stayed on the east side of the island (our choice) and this is where you find the secluded coves rather than the large beach (this is beautiful but we prefer solitude). Yes the rooms are basic but apart from sleeping we probably spent no more than an hour in ours so it didn't matter to us that we didn't have the facilities that some other islands have. The bed was comfy, we had plenty of room and the bathroom was fine and most importantly the room was always clean. The staff here are fantastic from the ladies sweeping the paths, the bar staff, who know what you like after the first day, the restaurant staff & chefs always happy (James our waiter was so lovely are drinks were always on the table when we went in for meals) and there was always a good selection of food depending on your taste, task force who keep the island clean , guest relations and Zoe the Kuoni rep (We're sure that you have to put up with a lot but you are appreciated for everything that you do!!!!!!) Thank you to you all. Also, not forgetting the Spa, very good massages, thank you. If you want to visit the Maldives for the sun, and sea you won't go wrong with this lovely little gem but remember you're not paying 4-5 star prices so don't expect the rooms etc that you will find on other islands just enjoy Biyadhoo for what it is which is beautiful island with a wonderful house reef. I'm certain we will return for a third visit to this lovely island after we have tried a few more.

We have just enjoyed our 5th visit to this island having previously been to what was Fesdu and then Vakarufarli. We yet again were able to totally" switch off"as soon as we arrived.Icould list all the things some people would find lacking at Biyadhoo but they have been pointed out in other reviews. What you get is clean basic accommodation, freshly cooked food with enough choice, very friendly staff and a variety of guests all on the same accommodation level.
However for us the most important thing is the reef, one of us is not interested in snorkelling the other is a bit of an anorak when it comes to spotting fish but unfortunately is not a strong swimmer..Biyadhoo offers a reef that is easily accessable from several well marked points with
an abundance of marine life. Every time we have visited a different but exciting event has happened this year it was having 12 eagle rays swim under me,last year it was a manta just turning up to see what was occuring that is on top of seeing turtles, sharks, large sting rays and all the favourites puffers, porcupines etc, etc. This year we had the added bonus of the Kuoni rep Zoe who looked after us when needed and even came out snorkelling with me on her afternoon off. Please do not book this holiday if you are looking for pampering and luxury you will be unhappy-book this if you are looking for a value for money, basic holiday in the most beautiful country with an easy to snorkel reef.
p,s many thanks for the message Crientje we enjoyed meeting you very much and are very glad you enjoyed the rest of your holiday-you didn't say if the reef was good or easy to access i guess it must have been. do hope one day we might meet again in the wonderful Maldives.

stayed at this resort feb/march 2012 and had a great time, read reviews after we had booked and to be honest i was not looking forward in going, but was i glad we went,a absolutly beautiful and stunning island yes you are not going to get 5* luxury it states basic in the broucher but very clean and in working order, you get what you pay for, i would go back again, the snorkling is fantastic having swam with a group of 9 eagle rays was incredible and a vast amount of different fish you could wish for, the staff are great and friendly always a smile and there to help you, so to some it up Biyadhoo well done.

We stayed at Biyadhoo in February 2012 for 5 nights where we met Ian and Jane who were there for the 5th time. We shared our experiences of other islands that we have previously visited and agreed that Biyadhoo is a wonderful getaway for a relatively affordable price.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves although agree with all things mentioned in other reviews about the rooms being dated. We hardly spent any time in the room so were not that bothered. It was spacious and clean which was the main thing.
The diving school was helpful and friendly, the beach beautiful and spacious.
We went on to stay at Veligandu for another 8 nights and I promised Ian and Jane to add a review and look at the main differences. I don't think it would be fair to compare the two because Veligandu is in a different price league which showed in all aspects (food, accommodation, beach, bar and spa) and it is true that you get what you pay for. We were however not disappointed with our stay at Biyadhoo because we knew what to expect.
It is after all still a little peace of paradise on earth and I would not hesitate to return.
Ian and Jane, hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay and we might meet again!

Sure, the rooms are old, the minibar system outdated, toilet might need two flushes and the shower is not of European standard.

These issues aside Biyadhoo is paradise, all buildings are hidden by the trees so while at the beach you feel like you are on a secluded island. Diving center is great, the staff friendly and the drinks good. I would recommend the barbeque by the beach.

The best thing about Biyadhoo is the house reef which is nothing short of amazing. If you except a three-star resort and service I am sure you will enjoy the island as much as we did.

This is not a five star resort with five star service
