“Wonderful property with exceptional and personal service”
Reviewed 23 January 2014

Rarely do I write reviews of hotels and resorts, but our recent experience at Cocoa Island and the dedicated team does by all means deserve to be awarded with our highest appreciation.

We have been relocated to Cocoa Island by Como due to the delayed opening of their sister resort (Maalifushi by Como). It has to be said that the delay in opening Maalifushi was NOT due to the default of Como and their local management, but due to local regulations. Highly appreciated are the efforts of the Manager of Maalifushi by Como - Mr. Andrew, who did undertake all possible steps to assure that our holidays are not spoiled in any possible way.

As a consequence of this relocation we (a group of 4 adults and a child) were rather skeptical of the alternative, being Cocoa Island by Como. I must admit that our concerns were completely groundless. The comments below can hardly appreciate in full the high recognition that Cocoa Island and his team truly deserves.

The pick-up at Male Airport, prompt transfer and subsequent welcome at Cocoa Island was extremely kind and swift. All requests we had made prior to our arrival were fully taken care of.

The resort, while being rather smaller in size, has a fantastic nature, excellent beaches and great diving spots in close proximity. The perfectly integrated infrastructure and well designed facilities create the unparalleled impression of a Maldivian paradise.

Our initial concerns related to the fact that Cocoa Island has only "Over the water villas" was also ungrounded. The Island has fantastic and secluded beach areas, where we could spend some days and enjoy a private beach feeling, while still relying on the dedicated device of the Cocoa Island service team.

Of utmost importance is to mention and credit the dedication of their entire team. We are particularly grateful to there resort manager Mr. Laurent, who did not spare any efforts to make our stay exceptional. In all aspects of our stay he personally had a hands-on attitude to make sure our stay is perfect.

Even after our departure from Cocoa Island we remained in contact with Laurent who repeatedly assured us that he is available any time for any problems we might face during the remaining stay of our group on the Maldives.

Given the location of the Island and the fact that you are in the middle of the Indian Ocean it remains a mystery to me how the team of Cocoa Island manages to secure the variety and quality of the cuisine offered. I would not overstate to say that in many aspects the restaurant, service and menu can hold a comparison to most high-end restaurants in Europe.

Notably, this is not our first stay on the Maldives. We have had the chance to know both properties of Four Seasons, Jumeirah and the newly opened Cheval Blanc.

Without any hesitation, we can recommend Cocoa Island by Como and would once again like to congratulate both, Andrew from Maalifushi and Laurent from Cocoa Island, for what they have achieved and thank them for their personal efforts.

We have already our next trip to the Maldives in mind and look forward to visiting both Cocoa Island again and the newly opened Maalifushi by Como.

We have spent an unforgettable 12 nights with the resort, describing this place as a paradise is not giving it enough justice.
Our sincere gratitude to Laurent and his wonderful teams from housekeeping, to the restaurant, the bar, the dive center and the excursion crews for their attentiveness to make our stay so memorable. This is truly one of the best trip of our life and we had travelled to many places to put Cocoa Island on our top of our list!
The transfer from the airport to the island was efficient and hassle free, we were greeted and shown around the beautiful island and settled into our lovely room for 2 weeks of peace and tranquility. Every staff member we meet are helpful and genuinely happy!
Dinner every night is a beautiful and romantic affair, no request is too much of a trouble...
The location of the island is superb, lots of marine lifes and what makes Cocoa so special is their conversation effort to protect the island such as no feeding of the fishes with processed food, no motorized sports etc.
Once again, Laurent and teams - thank you so much for an unforgettable time, I am already planning our next trip!

Room Tip: The dhoni loft suites are roomy and spacious...all rooms are maintain to a very high standard...I ha...

We returned to Cocoa Island over Christmas for our 5th stay there (and 8th stay in the Maldives). Once again, everything about Cocoa was fantastic. We wouldn't go anywhere else in the Maldives. All of the "heaven on earth" reviews are correct. It is luxury, but not blingy. Thatch and bare feet, not marble and gold.

There is a new manager, Laurent, and he has brought in a couple of good new ideas - a daily note about activities, and the weather forecast, and also a good timetable for what was happening over the Christmas period. The staff are as welcoming and friendly as ever.

The quality of the food was absolutely brilliant, as usual. On our first night, the seafood bbq was on, and we didn't fancy it, and I remembered a delicious dish I had a few times when we were last at Cocoa 2 years ago. I asked Chris (F&B manager) if it ever appeared on the menu still, and he said yes, and went to see if there was any available - and there was and I got my goats cheese tortellini! Unbelievable to request a dish from 2 years ago (but it was that good I remembered it) and they cooked it for me! Such brilliant service. Chris was a friendly and reassuring presence at every meal. All the food we had was fantastic, both a la carte and the special buffet/bbq nights.

Our room was fabulous, and there were not too many families with young children around which was great. In a place where you can spend 10 days just staring at the sea, it's that relaxing, you really don't want to hear children screaming. We LOVE the loft villas, the outdoor shower with Como Shambhala products is a highlight and one of the things we look forward to when coming to Cocoa.

Snorkelling was as good as ever, in fact we thought the reef was looking healthier than when we were last there, maybe there has been some extra protection and nurturing of the coral? On one day we counted 29 baby sharks all together - very cool indeed.

They laid on special Christmas activities - it would be really nice if the activities that are designated for the children could be more welcoming to couples - the cost of staying at Cocoa over Christmas is very high, it would be nice to feel that the invitations for the various activities were extended to adults too.

It was quite windy for a lot of the time we were there, which was good as it kept the temperature down a bit. The staff did a great job of keeping the entire resort free of mess, despite the weather causing a bit of damage.

Thank you to all staff who contribute to making Cocoa so very special.

Your comments on our culinary team will be greatly appreciated by Chris team. Thank you for them.
Undeniably, it is our greatest desire to keep Cocoa Island as the choice resort in Maldives, hence the feedback and suggestions which you have provided on the activity for childrens, brought attention to the areas which we may have overlooked. I will be reviewing them with my team on how we could improve.

We have traveled for a whole month spending some time in different resorts. I thought its easy to have a great holiday in Maldives, but the Cocoa Island resort stands out from the rest with the attention to detail, professionalism and expertise. It was the best resort: all staff were very professional and welcoming, the accommodation was very unique with absolute comfort and the Shambhala cuisine amazingly delicious and very healthy. It’s a small and private island with so many things to do and experience: diving, snorkeling, chilling in the sun, divine spa treatments, romantic beach diners, private cooking class ...- absolutely amazing! Thank you COCOA for this extraordinary time! I can very confidently recommend to those, who are looking for the exclusive holiday experience!!

If there's heaven on earth, this could be it. The scenery, the "villas" on stilts, the food, the service and technological amenities were all top-notched. If you want to impress your date or spouse, this should be on your short list. The clear water beneath our "Villa" had a variety of ocean life swimming around, including baby barracudas! Don't worry it was all very safe. The stunning remoteness is also the only small negative -- takes a while to get here. Be prepared for the very very small island -- you're here to chill, read, swim, suntan, get to know your partner/spouse/date, do nothing and be entranced by the gorgeous blue warm water and sky, etc.

Room Tip: Small resort. They designed the villas to of similar high quality except for the large villa at the...

This is our 3rd time visiting Maldives and we're so pleased that we booked into Cocoa Island. We had planned this trip as a surprise for the grandparents of our son. We were staying at the sunrise villa (1005). Starting from the greeting at the airport by our butler to check in and orientation of the island facilities, everything worked smoothly and efficiently. The staffs at Cocoa Island were all very friendly and welcoming. The villa that we stayed at was perfect for us 4 adults and 1 child. During our stay, we enjoyed all the activities that we did there. Cocoa Island is resort with smaller setting which means you don't run into many guests at the same time. We didn't have to worry about booking restaurants, spa treatments or other activities like some other 5 stars resorts because with less guests staying in the resorts, space or availability is not an issue. This is one of the big difference from other resorts that we had stayed before. As a result, we can relax more and worry less about not getting to do what we want to do during our stay.

Although there is only one restaurant, the food served there was always at excellent standard. They offer variety of food to choose from. The seafood was fresh and very good, their Asian and Indian dishes were all authentic and delicious. They also have different theme or special which often surprise us with something great. We all enjoyed the food served at the restaurant and would think it is one of the best place you can choose when you stay in Maldives.

We booked a Game Fishing Trip and Sunset Fishing Trip during our stay. Both trips were amazing experience for us especially for the Game Fishing Trip. The resort organised with the fishing company and they were all very experienced. We went off for fishing early in the morning and went for 8 hours. It was my first Game Fishing experience and to my surprise, 8 hours passes so quickly because we all had great catch and a lot of fun. We caught sail fish, duranos and wahoo. It was an awesome trip for us!

We think what makes Cocoa Island such a great resort is their service. We stayed at other 5 stars resorts in Maldives before but we had never had such excellent service experience. Our butler Mr. Muru was always so attentive and helpful. Many things that we hadn't even asked but had already been taken care of simply because he observed and remembered all our preferences without prompting. The wonderful service provided by Mr. Muru had made a huge difference for our stay at Cocoa Island. We didn't have to worry or to deal with any hassles which allowed us to enjoy our time at the resort even better.

We had quite a few spa treatments during our stay and all of them were great. We also enjoyed the complimentary yoga session. The hydrotherapy pool was a good place for relaxation at the end of the day. The gym had good equipments for one to exercise or to work out.

Overall, we had a very good stay at Cocoa Island and we are thinking about going back again in the near future. We would definitely recommend Cocoa Island to anyone who is planning to visit Maldives. This place is simply the best!
