“Sand, Sea and Sun”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

I did a day tour on this island and it gives you the option to just pay the fee to access the facilities or pay a little bit more to include lunch. Lunch was nothing special but it includes unlimited drinks (except alcohol) so it was okay. The beach is beautiful with clear turquoise water and white sand surrounding the island. I walked around the island and was able to see a stingray at ankle deep water as well as little fishes that you see doing the fish spa but wont go near any human beings. Sunset is beautiful and there are a lot of beautiful spots to take wonderful photos.

We visited Fihalhohi for a one-day island-hopping trip. Admission fee is US$24, and if you pay US$48, a lunch will be included. Island hoppers could only stay at the resort until 5pm.

The resort has stunningly beautiful white beach and water bungalows. The staffs are helpful, but could be a little more friendly. The utilities such as restaurants, spas, restrooms, etc, just look normal and a little bit aged. My friend and I both tried the 30 minute “head, neck and shoulder massage.” The spa room needs some upgrading, but the massage is relaxing and enjoyable. US$65 for a 30 minute massage is acceptable.

We both got sunburn from earlier snorkeling trips so we did not get into the water. But while we strolled around the island, we found several beautiful birds including a pretty African Grey singing happily right in the tree over our head. There are also several cranes on the beach which is so exciting. There are several crows which are obviously very smart. They might steal food if it is unattended.

To summarize, this is a good resort for photo taking and relaxing on the beach. Some friends who did snorkel told us that the reef was good and they saw turtles in the water. But there is not much to do in the resort unless you go into the water. Price is reasonable here but if you want to enjoy a luxurious resort, you should check somewhere else.

If you just want to read a book by the beach, suntan or snorkel to your hearts' content, this place is for you. Since it's a tourist/resort island, I think the rooms there are all full-board. I came here as a visitor and had to pay US$48 for entrance and lunch fee. While the lunch buffet spread wasn't as splendid as we hoped it to be, it was filling. For those who are looking to snorkel, do venture out to the deeper parts (dark blue) of the sea to see the house reef and various fishes living there. The waves can be quite strong though so do stay far away from parked boats if you're snorkelling.Best to wear booties instead of flippers to prevent sand from entering your footwear; the shoreline can be pretty rocky.

Resort is a little dated, we upgraded to water villa which was amazing. Slightly boring as the weather wasn't great- October time so we couldn't go on many day trips etc. The resort didn't have much to do regarding evening entertainment etc.., we had the same table, same waiter for the week and meals slightly repetitive.

Room Tip: Defo upgrade to water villa

After living in the Maldives for more than 4 fours years and visiting at least ten different resorts, I wasn´t expecting for a three-star resort to impress me the way Fihalhohi did. To be fair, it was my first time staying in a water bungalow (if you can afford it, go for it!) and they didn´t seem very organized when arranging our transfer, but let me share with you a list of reasons why I´d definitely recommend Fihalhohi: 1) The house reef is well preserved and nice! Take a look at the pics of what I saw while snorkeling there. 2) The local staff is much nicer than in most other resorts. 3) They use solar energy for illumination and water heating. 4) The beach is clean and beautiful. 5) The water bungalows are very well equipped with toiletries, wifi (no TV), an amazing view, a nice balcony, comfortable chairs and immediate access to the sea. 6) There is a gym (no extra charge) and a SPA. 7) The food is good and there are many options to choose from. 8) There is a common area right next to the bar which has many books, a TV, and where you can play fussball and table tennis. 9) The price was very reasonable, although it´s important to note that we went during the low season.

If you want good diving, go to Fihalhohi. For the rest, consider that during low season half of the guests are from China which has its repercussions on the restaurant. Access to the buffet can be a challenge, stunning eating habits can be observed and many guests seem to be in an eating competition. Tables have to be shared and restaurant management is reluctant and slightly arrogant if you ask for your own table.
We found service at the reception and lodging excellent. For more privacy choose an upstairs room. All in all I would not return to Fihalhohi ...

Room Tip: avoid the chinese corner (87 to 138), choose an upstairs room
