Spent the best 4 nights in my life yet in Velassaru. From the beginning to the end, the experience was great. Worth the big budget we spent there.

Customer service was among the best I've seen. I particular am fond of the marine department because they are so knowledgeable about marine life in Maldives and always willing to answer questions and show more things. Especially Mickey, Marie, Jin, and Oskar. My boyfriend and I had fun spending time with them, hanging out at the dive shop, exploring the seas with them and learning from them. The snorkelling tour and dolphin tour is USD50 or 55 per pax for two hours. which was worth it based on our experience.

It is 20 minutes away from the airport by boat. Although the proximity to the incineration and main town island ruins the view on north east, we were very happy as long as we keep to the other sides on the island. The view around the island was breath-taking and we observed many marine wildlife readily close to the beach ready to be seen, like grey-tipped shark, ray and even octopus. Snorkelling within and out at the deep sea had been our preoccupation. We really relaxed by bumming by the beach every day. The infinity pool was also our favourite.

Food is expensive in the restaurants (but yummy) but what isn't in Maldives? If you are not big eater like me, my advice is to get breakfast or half board and pack lots of snacks or instant noodles. That way you are not tied to just one restaurant under your all-inclusive or full-board packages and you can still explore the other 4 restaurants. We like the Japanese place called Teppanyaki that we kept going back there after we were done trying all other restaurants.

Chill Bar is the best place to hang out for sunset. Didn't get to try the spa facility though. Housekeeping was good and timely. We were given daily bulletins to keep ourselves updated on the next day's activities.

If I have the opportunity, I'd love to go back there again.

Room Tip: Don't bother getting water bungalows unless you like the idea of being exclusive. If you're getting beach bungalows, avoid north east if you don't want to see smokes from incinerators.

Spent our honeymoon here. Unforgettable, amazing service. Can't wait to return. Food was beyond expectations. We took advantage of the excursions including the night boat trip, never seen so many colours in the ocean, breathtaking. The staff 100% have the belief that what you want is their priority

My wife and I stayed at Velassaru for our final bit of our honeymoon. After visiting Thailand for sightseeing it was nice to just kickback and relax in such a lovely location. The island itself is amazing, the quality of everything was great. When we arrived at the airport we were met by Velassaru staff where they took our bags and loaded them onto our private boat (and what a nice boat it is!). We also were introduced to our butler at this stage (due to having stayed in the pool villa). During our stay our butler and room cleaner stayed the same so that you have consistency throughout your stay. All the staff at Velassaru go out of their way to help and make your stay as relaxing as possible.

Having read a few other reviews about food not being good and being able to see the rubbish island, we weren't 100% sure of what we would get. For those that are concerned about the food we had no problems with the food, every restaurant we ate at was great. I would recommend to go for the VI package which covers almost all food and has a large choice of drinks during meal times (ultimately saving us alot of money in our opinion). As for the rubbish island yes you can see it if you are that end of the island and yes there was some smoke coming up from it (but it is in the distance and we had no problem with it). They don't burn lots of smoke generating rubbish during the day so the smoke you can see in the distance is minimal. Also our Kuoni rep has told us that the authorities were closing the burning part of the island down in the near future so this issue will just disappear (not that we felt it was bad anyway!)

We made use of the SPA facilities and felt that the quality of service was great, the staff were attentive and made sure you were comfortable and cared for.

Our favourite restaurants were Sand and Tepan - the food and service is great there were a few members of staff that we felt made our stay perfect (and in case the management our reading this) they were Asley (our butler), our room cleaner (can't remember his name - sorry), Yanos, Maria and Christopher.

As mentioned above we stayed in the Pool Villa which was really well laid out and spacious. The private pool was great as the main pool sometimes was full with other guests. We are already looking at when we can go back (will have to save a bit tho!) but this time we think we will go for the Water Suite due to its privacy and seclusion.

The only thing that was a slight negative for us was we were surprised to see so many children at the resort, especially when it wasn't during holiday time. Velassaru doesn't advertise itself as an adults only place so we can't really say that's a bad thing against Velassaru.

Also the price of scuba diving was a bit too expensive for me - if the price was lower I would have ended up doing more dives ultimately spending more money!

All in all we had a really relaxing honeymoon and we didn't want to come back home.

If anyone is wanting a nice relaxing holiday or as we did a honeymoon, we would recommend Velassaru to anyone.

Room Tip: The pool villa was really nice but so all the other rooms. While we didn't go inside the water bungalows or normal beach villas from the outside they all looked very pleasant. We did get a chance to look round the Water villa as it was empty and wow, I did wish we had gone for that instead - however, I am not 100% it is worth the extra cost over the pool villa.

Velassaru might be a comparably small island in competitive Maldives, but my short getaway at the resort was a complete bliss, thanks to a team of highly competent staff members and the convenience of getting to and fro the island!

Despite initial apprehension about the food quality, we had an amazing food experience all evenings, especially at Teppanyaki and Etesian. Turquoise was acceptable, and the safest bet would be ordering off the pizza and dessert menu for lunch. Both the bars were amazing, with quality entertainment by local performers each evening. The Chill bar was a stunner, and your to Velassaru would be incomplete if you missed a visit to this little gem! To top my appreciation for the F&B team, I have to shout out that the prices offered is great value for money! There have been reviews about ridiculous prices, but having been to other resorts in the Maldives, the prices are highly reasonable, taking into consideration the cost of food importation. I have also found a variety of well priced wines and the mini bar is really affordable. For those on meal packages, it would be regrettable if you didn't skip the buffet to experience the other restaurants ~ a 30% discount is offered, which is a great deal to buy an unforgettable experience.

Besides F&B, the pool was amazing. The view's spectacular and if you're lucky, you'd find yourself sharing a dip with some of the lovely birds living on the island.

For those who need a break from the heat, the resort has a library that's well equipped with desktops, and decent collection of books and DVDs.

I have stayed in a beach bungalow, which was a lower catgory room but completely adequate. There were additions of an outdoor patio, an indoor living room, a jacuzzi and the bathroom was crazily huge, you could almost hang out in there (Chairs were provided lol!). In my opinion, the room provides great value!

I can't wait to return for a visit, this time to try the spa and to discover the marine life, since I spent too much time this visit indulging in great meals, leaving too little time for anything else!

Once again, well done team, and keep up the excellence!

From the moment you arrive at Velassaru you are pampered with the beautiful scenery and by the fantastic, friendly staff.

We've stayed in a watervilla (409) which did not face the rubbish island and we've enjoyed every moment in this luxurious, yet cosy acommodation. The spa is terrific, highly recommend the Now Voyager treatment :))
In regards to the restaurants, our favourite was The Sand. Fairly easy to find a spot for a reservation even on short notice, wider selection of food than at the other restaurants and beautiful setting on the beach. At Teppaniaki we would recommend getting a table at the margins as you can peak into the water and see the baby sharks which lurk often under the restaurant. It's a fantastic sight, one which you shouldn't miss.

All in all, it's on the expensive side but worth every single penny. We wish to thank the staff for making our stay very enjoyable. In particular we would like to thank and send our greetings to Salam (the waiter at the pool) who has delighted us with his friendly smile and good spirit every day and to Rauf (waiter at the Sand restaurant) who was extremely helpful, kind and has enchanted us with stories about life in the maldives.

If you get bored of laying in the sun, we recommend talking up some sailing or windsurfing classes with Zaheen at the Glide center. We were there every other day to try out some new water sport. Zaheen is a fantastic teacher and the fun is guaranteed. Excellent service overall.
Thank you Velassaru for this perfect vacation!
