Honeymoon in paradise!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 9 Jul 2019
We stayed here on our honeymoon in May and had the best time ever! The resort is beautiful, the water villa was to die for, the staff are amazing they cannot do enough for you. The restaurants are so, so good - the food is of such high quality - Sand Restaurant was our favourite!
Snorkelling in the day from our room was unreal we couldnt get enough of it. We also loved the cinema nights on the beach in the evening.
Best honeymoon destination - we really hope to return one day!

My partner and I were there to celebrate his 30th birthday and it was our 4th time visiting the Maldives. We both agreed this was the most enjoyable trip out of the 4 times we visited. Everyone said June is the worst time to go to Maldives cuz it’s monsoon season but we got 5 full days of sunshine! It was indeed a perfect stay!

Airport transit: It was incredibly smooth, we were greeted by the staff when we arrived and it only took us 25 mins by speedboat to the hotel. The ride was very comfortable.

Service: The customer service of this resort is much more casual unlike other typical 5 stars Maldivian hotels which assign you to a butler or villa host. We’ve experienced top notched service in Jumeirah Vittaveli but the staff of this hotel are the most genuine and kind people we’ve ever met. They always greet you when you pass by and they do their best to fulfill your needs. They’re always smiley you can tell they’re really happy to work there hence offers warmer services to their guests. Shameer greeted us when we arrived and he is truly an asset to the resort, he is incredibly professional and helpful. Since we had a relatively late departure flight he requested late checkout for us in advance and we really appreciated it.

Food: The food was absolutely delicious! We met Francois who’s the F&B manager and he really impressed us. He is really hard working we always see him checking on the staff and food quality at different F&B outlets whenever we dine out. There was a very romantic sunset drink set up called Velassaru romance where you get to enjoy the sunset with a bottle of champagne on the beach but it was fully booked when we asked so the hotel send us a bottle of tattinger to our dinner place to make it up. There were too many people we wanted to thank of the F&B team, Shimau from Vela, Asraf from chill bar, Ali and Immadh from Etesian. Etesian was such a romantic place and food was absolutely amazing, must try!

Room: We stayed at both Deluxe villa and water villa during our stay and I must say I prefer water Villa much more. The deluxe villa just seemed a bit too dark for me and the bathroom is outdoor so it gets incredibly hot out there. Nevertheless it was still a beautiful room and it gives you easy access to the beach. The rooms are relatively new compared to another resorts we have stayed at cuz we were told they change the furnitures of the room every two years. We stayed at water villa 408 and I have to say it was amazing! It was supposed to be the sunset side but we were told by the staff that the sunset shifted a bit so we weren’t able to see it from the room but still it faces the best side of the resort in our opinion cuz it had the most privacy and it was really quiet. Guests do not need a buggy to get around the resort so you rarely hear buggy running on jetty which could be quite annoying. Water villa is so spacious and comfortable. We have stayed at water villa with pool at other resort and we find the pool to be quite useless cuz normally you wouldn’t be able to swim in it unless it’s super big. The housekeeping team did a really good job cleaning the villa and I must say Asraf is the most responsible supervisor ever. Our cleaner Nabeel is quite new to the resort but he did an incredible job keep it up!

Thank you again to the Velassaru team for taking care of us and giving us such a beautiful memory. The island itself is so beautiful and the atmosphere is so relaxed, the sand is super soft and water is so clear. Will definitely come back again!

We stayed at Velassaru during our Eid Break from 4-9 June 2019. We had actually booked our stay at Kurumba Maldives (through Maldives Travel). We checked into our deluxe Villa at Kurumba and were just putting out 10 month old son to sleep after a 10 hour journey to get there when we got a call from the Resort Manager (Rita) that she would like to speak to me but not on the phone. My heart sank as I thought my travel Agent did not pay for the hotel. Turns out that they gave us an option to stay in the current room or be upgraded to a Water Villa at Velassaru Maldives. We happily accepted the Water Villa option and were trasfered to the other resort within the hour.

It started to rain as soon as we left the airport to transfer to Velassaru and due to the boat being small and the sea being extremely rough, we turned back to the airport to wait for the rain to settle before we were transferred.

As soon as we arrived at Velassaru we were met at the Jetty by the staff with one member of the resort team completely dedicated to each party for checkin procedures. Checkin was extremely smooth and our room was ready and we were immediately shifted to our Water Villa. Although this was my second trip to the maldives, it was the first time staying in the water villa and it was an experience to remember.

The room was huge and in immaculate condition with direct access from the villa to the sea. Really enjoyed dipping in the sea every morning when I got up. Since we were travelling with my 10 month old son, every single person of the Velassaru Staff was extremely friendly and would come play with him and pick him up whenever we went for Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner. We had informed the chef for purees for him only on the first day and without fail he would send fresh purees for Lunch and in the evening for him which he thoroughly enjoyed.

The Spa is over the water and is amazing. Food was very good. We could snorkel right at our Villa which was amazing as well.

I just wanted to share how incredibly amazing our stay was at velassaru. From when I and my partner arrived on Monday 3rd June and left on Saturday 8th. From the minute we arrived at the airport, staff were there waiting for us to escort us to the speedboat. The transfer was faultless.

From then on, every single member of staff whether it be reception, waiting staff, cleaners, chefs or grounds men made us feel immediately welcome. All staff go out of their way to be polite, friendly helpful and make your stay as pleasant as possible, nothing was ever too much trouble. The resort is beautiful, everywhere is immaculately cleaned, in particular the rooms and the restaurants and food outstanding. The grounds are constantly raked and staff work so hard to keep the island looking beautiful.

I would particularly like to mention Shiruan, who served us at breakfast and in chill bar, he is a genuinely lovely young man who went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable. He booked us restaurants, getting us the best table and gave us a lovely card and photo as a souvenir on our last night. He is a credit to velassaru!

Also Omary, sorry if the spelling is wrong, also from Chill Bar, his lovely smile and charming personality made going to chill bar a joy. I still miss seeing his lovely smile every day! In fact all staff are chill bar are outstanding.

There was another man who I believe is manager of chill bar and
Etasien whose name I can’t remember who also went out of his way to make out stay memorable. He served us twice when we ate at Etasien. His manner and genuine ability to want to make sure his guests stay is amazing, is a great quality. Again another waiter who served us at Sands on Tuesday evening, sorry to not remember his name, but he kept popping up to see us all over the island to say “hi”and make sure our stay was enjoyable. He also kindly sorted out a table for us at Etasien on our last night, where the food is truly outstanding. In fact all the chefs there cook amazing food.

I would also like to mention the young men at the water sports centre, Irfan, Aheez and Mode who were lovely, happy cheerful people who went out of their way to sort out our water sports, again they are happy to do anything to help make your stay the best possible. Thank you also for looking after us when we fell off our jet ski!!

One of the things that really came across to us is how much pride all staff take in their work, they seemed genuinely proud to work at velassaru, wanting each guest to have the best time and spoke highly of how well they are treated by management and how much they enjoyed working there, whilst enjoying the team stuff they do in their spare time such as football. In order to have such amazing, dedicated staff, then managers must do an incredible job in inspiring their staff to strive to give their guests the best holiday. Your amazing staff must be led and well managed by an inspirational management team.

I would like to thank each and everyone who made our holiday at velassaru the most amazing holiday ever. It has always been my dream to come to the Maldives and it totally exceeded my expectations. We loved your island and the Maldivian people are the most kind, hospitable, friendly people I have ever come across. The only bad thing about the whole holiday was having to leave! We would love to return one day and see you all!

Beyond our expectations, a real paradise island.

The 25 minute speedboat to the Island was great fun.

From the moment we arrived till the moment we left, the staff treated us so well, we felt that they all really wanted to make our stay special and memorable.

The beach villa we stayed in was simply perfect and the sea and snorkelling was amazing.

The food choices in the restaurants was fantastic as was the service with an extensive drinks menu.

The spa was just so wonderful and such a relaxing, calm place.

We have been fortunate to stay in luxury hotels in St. Lucia, Australia and Mexico but this resort really was 1st class and highly recommend to anyone for that special occasion or just because you want a perfect holiday.

You even get your own flip flops and beach bag too
