What a wonderful place, especially for a family travelling with young children (age 9 & 5). This is our second visit to Lux and we weren't disappointed. We stayed in a family water villa 109 for 10 nights from April 14 and we were looked after very well by our wonderful villa attendant Sobir who entertained our kids daily with a different and comical towel creations! The island has a great choice of restaurants and a kids menu available everywhere. We were on an all inclusive basis which really did include everything, other than champagne (understandable!) however the house sparking wine Popcap was lovely! The island really is a little piece of paradise from the beautiful clean white sands, clear warm shallow waters and the amazing sea life. Thanks to the water sports guys we went on the house reef snorkel which includes a boat ride out to the house reef (this is a complimentary daily activity). Whale shark safari where we really did swim with whale sharks, amazing!!! And a family speed boat trip they organised to a sand bank in the middle of the clear blue waters so our 5yr old could safely enjoy some snorkelling too. The crew took an underwater camera with us and took loads of fabulous photos of us all with the numerous tropical fish and downloaded them free onto my SD card. The kids loved watching the daily feeding of the rays and baby reef sharks. They enjoyed pizza making, water sports, and henna tattoos all at the kids club and mum and dad really did get to relax! The staff everywhere are so friendly and really want to make your holiday special. My eldest son cut his leg on some coral and the guest relations lady Pauline was very quick to whisk him off to the medical centre where they attended to his small cut, and to top it off they sent a get well card to the room with a fresh healing coconut water drink, so thoughtful! Love this place thank you Lux.

I would like to thank you for coming back to our island for your family holiday. It is always a great feeling to have guests coming back to the resort and visiting our team after some time. A very exciting part is to share the experience of the last stay and look forward to the same joy and new changes, and I am glad to learn you had found it again. It is true that our island is very spacious compared with others in the Maldives, therefore we do provide a great variety of cuisines and activities for families and couples to accommodate different needs.

I am, again, glad to learn you had enjoyed your time with us, especially your young ones. Although you have gone home for a week now, I believe everybody in your family is still indulging in the sunny days on the beach and in the ocean. If you are planning to come back to the Maldives, please do not wait for another two years, we are very much looking forward to welcoming you again soon !

Best wishes to you on behalf of Sobir and Pauline,

After 12 wonderful nights at LUX we are travelling home considering when, not if, we will return.

The location is simply breath taking, seeing the ocean through the palm and coconut trees on both your left and right hand sides at the same time whilst walking along the islands sandy tracks is pinch me time. As are the special treats that great you along the way...fresh coconut to nibble on, refreshing sorts drinks available under a palm tree...hammock and swings for you to stop and have a chill out whilst the sea is only feet away...a secret honesty bar hiding around a corner....wonderful moments of pure delight.

But above all of this it's the staff that make a holiday at LUX stand out as something not only wonderful in such a beautiful location but a truly special one.

The staff genuinely have a love for where they are and what they do. This positive, friendly "part of the island family" attitude is infectious and makes for a very special relaxing holiday.

Some staff do require a specific mention here;

Sham who looked after our garden room (304) created some fantastic "towel art" to surprise us each day on our return to our villa. 304 has a fantastic position, being very private, on the sun set side of the island but being within 20 meters of the beach on the other side.

Francesca the marine biologist was a great guide to life on and around the reef. On our whale shark trip we managed to see three different whale sharks, the last of which was like a private snorkel with just our boat and no others...a memory created for life.

Dave from engineering showed us behind the scenes of the Islands infrastructure and how they produce the fresh water and generate power and use energy recovery systems to heat the islands hot water. This which was a great insight into what makes the island runs smoothly.

LUX has its own coffee roasting machine which Daniel showed us how coffee roasting is an art as much as it is a science, his passion was shared by Rasheed at Cafe LUX who made us simply the best cappuccinos with amazing art work each day.

Sas and Johnathan's warmth and friendliness throughout was infectious to their respective teams and Ayath and Zayina from East and Abbas from the Island Kitchen made our meal times truly wonderful experiences.

So LUX has a fantastic location but it is the staff that made our holiday so so special....thank you team LUX

Room Tip: Garden room 304 has a great position being on the sunset side but also only 20m from the lagoon side Would recommend a sunset side room/villa purely for watching the sun go down with a glass of wine

Dear Edward,

It is great to hear from you on TripAdvisor, and thank you for choosing LUX* Maldives to be your family holiday destination.

I am really glad that you have highlighted the good work of our team, as our team members, indeed, is the most valuable asset for the resort. I have to say that I am really proud of the entire team and it is truly a great honour to work with each of them. Your review has been shared to all the departments and highlighted to those you have mentioned in your feedback. I hope you have taken some pictures of the art that Sham had created; it is always fun and enjoyable to go to the deep blue with our knowledgeable marine biologist, Francesca; after the mini tour with Dave, I hope you have got to know more about how the entire hotel operates on a remote island. The coffee roasting experience with Daniel is truly an amazing experience and I believe you had fallen in love with the coffee made by Rasheed, the very talent coffee artist.

It is also great to know our Executive Chef, Jonathan, Assistant food & Beverage Manager, Sas, had looked after you well with the support of Ayath, Ziyada, Abbas and the team.

May I use this opportunity to thank you once again for sharing your holiday experience online, your review on our team members is highly appreciated, and we hope to see you again soon !

Best regards from the Team of LUX* Maldives,

We stayed in Lux Beach Villa for 5 nights during our 1st wedding anniversary. 5 nights is actually too short. We want to go back there next time. The first day we greeted by a very nice staff named Sherry. She gave us a quick tour around the resort. The service was really good. The housekeeping job was fantastic. Every day the housekeeping folded a different animal shapes from a piece of towel, very cute. Our resort package is all inclusive so we do not have to spend money to enjoy our nice and relax "paradise". early morning we woke up and just sit on the beach lounge in front of our beach villa, waiting for the sunrise. We can see lots of ghost crabs digging out sands. They got in and got out and dig another hole. The room we have was big. The air conditioner was really good although on the first night it stopped working for some reason but the quick response from the mechanic made the room cool again till the rest of our visit. Shower on the outdoor. Amazing. First hotel, I have ever been to with outdoor shower and bathroom. 2 Large wardrobes and wash basins. Our stay seems to be like in a paradise. Only on the third day we were on the island, we came to know that the island provides some cool games. Such as finding a mystery bar, if you can find it, all the drinks in the bar are free for you to drink. Another one is message in the bottle. We did not find any of those but it was quite fun looking for it along the way while walking to get some breakfast or just roaming around the island. The island is very neat. We can always have a walk anywhere in the island. Or we can catch a buggy and also bicycle. There are mainly 2 colours of bicycle we can use. The black one is for rent, we have to pay $5/day and the yellow one is free. So wherever we saw yellow bicycle, if we feel like it we can take it for a ride. We didn't get a chance to go with group snorkeling or diving. We just borrowed the snorkels and snorkelled around behind the villa. The weather was very hot, we got sunburnt every day. During the afternoon, I usually have a scoop of ice cream from the Island Cafe. There is a bartender name Allaudin, he is very friendly. He made a very nice drink for me and my husband during one hot day. He deserves a special credit. We did not have a chance to say goodbye to Allaudin because we left quite early that day and the island bar has not opened. A day before we leave, we had a chat with one of the manager in the island. His name is Mamun. He told us a little clue where we can find the bottle with a message inside but still the bottle have never been able to found by us. Good stuff. He said there is always a way to make the guest come again to LUX resort. We really enjoyed our stay in Lux Resort. We are hoping we can go back there again.

The dive shop is superbly run by the charming and extremely efficient Dirk, we were treated to several whale shark encounters. But the mantas had started migration so will need to see them next time thru. (Wo ist der manta?) Two tank morning excursions proved to be the best option for us, which we coupled with occasional afternoon or night dives. Several boats available, so special requests possible. Rental equipment in top/new condition, we brought own mask, fins, booties, wet suits: shorties were too warm, as was .5mm skin, rashguard was more than sufficient (April). Nitrox and rebreathers both available. An unexpected treat was presence of world freedive champion and record holder Christian Redl who taught an advanced free dive course as part of the Lux Underwater Festival. Descents to 20m in training and then freediving with whalesharks. It cant get better than that.

The water villa (number 134) was lovely: very clean and well appointed, nicely laid out. For divers these water villas were most convenient, easy to breakfast and then to the boat for the early morning dives. Good air conditioning throughout (including bathroom so not a hot wet humid sauna filled with the stink of drying bathing suits.) Very large closets so room wasnt strewn with clothes and laptops and flipflops. Wifi in each room, ours was acceptably fast. We never touched the TV or DVD player. Bathroom and shower opened out onto large outdoor deck (with outdoor shower) and lounge area and each villa had stairs for access to the house reef.

Beaches are pure white and kept spotless/immaculate, the grounds crew raked up seaweed constantly and we saw beautiful baby black tip reef sharks in the shallows each day. Plenty of spots to get away from crowds or kids if and when you want to, even when hotel is near capacity.

The island is long and thin, there are several distinct lunch and dinner restaurants, and menus were varied enough that one week was neither overly boring or repetitive. All inclusive packages seemed a good choice, a la carte pricing was 'resort ridiculous', especially so if you are to partake at one of the several bars at night. The resort is sufficiently spread out so there was a bit of an excursion to go from one end to the other, we dove each day and didnt make it to the spa or the yoga studio or the other facilities. Although on return I would definitely book a package of massage time at the spa. Golf buggies and bikes around for those who didnt want to make the walk. We met several lovely couples and families from Europe and South Africa, and we became friends with several sport and cinema celebrities (not to be named) who were lounging with us in the Senses pool.

The resort and dive staff was extremely friendly and their sense of pride was evident. Definitely spend time with the lovely Francesca, resident marine biologist, to learn about the indigenous wildlife in the surrounding waters. A dive with her is worth more than several semesters of study as she points out creatures and corals large and small, but come prepared for a work out if you are going to keep up with her under water!

Room Tip: east water villas were very convenient for breakfast and proximity to boat in the mornings for diving.

I am very glad to read your review that you shared the freediving experience with Christian Redl during our 3rd Underwater Festival at LUX* Maldives. It was truly an amazing experience as I had, personally, joined one of the freediving sessions with Christian. We were very pleased to see many freedivers gathering together and sharing diving experience and exchanging information. I am also happy to hear that you have made some friends here.

Currently, we are starting to prepare for the event next year, it would be great if you could also share your comments and feedback with us so we could improve ourselves and get ready to welcome you and all the freediving lovers again. And of course, if you would like to join a trip with Francesca, our amazing marine biologist will explore and assist in learning more about what nature has to offer in marine life.

Once again, thank you for participating in the programme, we hope to see you again next year !

Best regards,

A 25th Wedding anniversary requires a special trip. After spending a week diving the Southern Athols on MV Orion liveaboard we booked into Lux. We reserved a water villa for the week and arrived by speedboat from nearby Maamigili airport. Arriving at the resort we were greeted by the staff at the jetty who immediately set out to make us feel very welcome. Escorted into the spacious and air-conditioned reception area were the layout of the island and the facilities were explained.
The villa was very spacious and luxurious, better than expected, linked to the island by a wooden walkway. During the week we relaxed on the beaches, enjoyed the cocktails (quickly upgraded to all-inclusive) and sampled all the restaurants and bars (seven). The favourite lunch destination was the buffet at Island Kitchen followed by Senses restaurant (spicy Asian cuisine). Other options included the Italian influenced Allegria and the Japanese Umami, best to prebook each of these. The early bookings (7pm) are populated by families with young children so book later if you want a peaceful dining experience. The nearest bar and restaurant to our villa was East, where we relaxed most evenings. Thanks to Jayson Norris for the musical entertainment.
We borrowed a kayak to paddle out to the sand banks and surprised a juvenile black-tip reef shark sleeping in the shallows (only about 30 cm long). The water in the lagoon is full of shoaling fish and rays, ideal for safe snorkelling.
A couple of extra days diving with the resort dive centre run by Euro-divers was about as energetic as we got. Diving is from a Dhoni and takes in the whaleshark routes to the west and the Thila's to the North, lots of choice, lots of sharks, turtles and on one occasion a 6m whaleshark.
In summary, I can highly recommend Lux for its super friendly laid back atmosphere, fabulous water villas and excellent food. Time to start saving for the next trip.

Room Tip: Water Villa is worth every penny. It felt very private.

Dear Chris,

It was our pleasure to have you here and to be your chosen destination for the celebration of your 25th Wedding Anniversary in the Maldives! Knowing you had enjoyed the food and drinks, the beach, the activities and the service is the greatest comfort value to all of us. Thank you! I am also very excited to know that you have had the chance to meet Jayson during your stay as he is amazing and big highlight during the Easter holidays. This was the second time that we invited him to be our host musician on the island, and we hope that you will have the opportunity to hear him play with us in the future as we look forward to invite him back.

Thank you once again for the review and recommendation to other travelers. I hope, soon, we will be able to see you. Please let us know when you will be back as we would like to make sure everything is in place prior to your arrival in the Paradise.
