We went to Maldives early December 2012 and stayed at the Four Seasons. We have 4 couples and each booked our 4 nights 5 days stay at this beautiful resort. 3 couples flew from Hong Kong and one couple flew from Shanghai. We met each other at KL, Malaysia for our transits to Male, the Capital of Maldives. We arrived Male at around 20:30 and the hotel staff were at the gate greeting us. We took a boat trip, around 20 mins, to the first Four Seasons Hotel - they have 2 locations at Maldives - for the first night stay. This is their first one there but it does not look old to us. Some of us stay in a beach villa and some stay on the water villa.

The next morning, we all woke up early even though we have had our tired trip but we all raced our time to enjoy the sunrise and the fresh morning air. At around 10:30 after finished our breakfast and took tons of pictures, we headed our way to the Kuda Huraa Island to start our 4 night stay.

We took seaplane for half an hour and we were there landed safely on the sea. A bit of complaints in here was the arrangement of the villas as it was almost full house at that time of the year - this supposed to be the low season. But the staff were doing whatever they can to accommodate us.

The chef at their Chinese restaurant made us a good lunch and we are went to live in our villa after that. Your decision will be hard to make on whether a beach villa is better than a water villa or otherwise, but my recommendation to you is to try both and they are of different experience.
My wife and I tried the water villa first. I don't need to tell you have good the room can be just view the photos yourself.

We had our custom-made Chinese dinner the first night. No one can ask for more as long as Chinese food is in Maldives. Food and drinks are more expensive here than a normal 5 star Four Seasons but the reason is obvious that everything has to be flew in.

The clouded horizon at this time of the season could not really fulfill my dreams of taking a good sunset picture with the big orange sinking into the sea. But the lobster dinner of day 2 was one of the favors of this trip. The wine , the coffee and the cigar to go with it on the beach was a life time relaxing moments to be spent with friends - and of course these are our best friends for 20 years.

We went cycling, swimming, snorkeling, sun bathing and fishing for the rest of the days and nights as we were racing our days and nights to enjoy every moment here in paradise.

This is the only trip that when it is time for us to leave, we felt that if we can stay just one more day or two that will be nice !!!!

The transit flights back home was a night flight and due to the time different, the hours were tricky but after this experience, no one is complaining anything about it.

Would Maldives disappear on earth one day? I don't know but there are still paradises on earth and obviously this is one of them.

Room Tip: Try both the breach and water villa. in my opinion a sunset vila is better than a sunrise villa - I...

The title of my review says it all. A stunning resort with the best staff I have ever encountered in my myriad vacations across the world. Special thanks to Brenda, Mervyn, Shan, Nirajan and Mohamed. I would strongly recommend a beach villa on the sunrise side where the snorkeling is absolutely marvelous just 10 ft from the beach. We also took the boat to the reef ($25) and snorkeling was slightly better there. I would also highly recommend the dolphin cruise - we actually saw tens of dolphins spinning high up in the air (no wonder they are named "spinner" dolphins). The resort is very expensive but worth every cent. The best restaurant is the Reef Club. We will be back.

Room Tip: Beach villa on the sunsrise side if you like snorkeling.

I would like to thank you for such a kind review, and more importantly recognizing some of my fellow colleagues who make Kuda Huraa such a special place.

You would pleased to hear that just recently we have spotted a couple of calves in our Dolphin cruise, and it seems that the parents are sharing with them all the nuances of playing with our boats.

We look forward to your return to Paradise!

Wonderful place, very romantic felt like a honeymoon the entire visit.

The staff was great, service was fantastic from time we landed in MLE to the time we took off. We did not bring the kids but next time they will come. I wish we could make the trip every year but USA to Maldives is a very long trip. Once in a lifetime trip.. The marine biology people were great, the Sea Turtles they have there now are something to see. The dive staff is also wonderful helped with every need we had.

We have been hearing about the Maldives for years and living in Dubai near the sea we couldn't imagine what would be so special about an island resort hotel. Well, we were flabbergasted. The hospitality of the locals, the service of the Four Seasons who find nothing impossible, apart from controlling the weather. We had a sunrise pool villa, right on the beach, our 5 year old did a diving lesson (snorkelling with scuba gear breathing thru the regulator), our 11 year old did her bubble maker course and we all went diving in the most amazing surroundings you could imagine. Kids club and other kids activities were great and round the clock. Crab racing, shark feeding .... The food was delicious and the wine list very extensive going all the way up to the Petrus category. Their champagne list was equally wide ranging. Well done Four Seasons in putting on such a warm, fun, pampered experience.

Room Tip: If you have kids don't stay in the water bungalows. We found the sunrise villas to be much less...

Heaven on earth. Wish we could go back every year. Will start saving madly to make it so. Worth the journey. Our 2 boys- 12 &14 had a great time, but this is also easily a couples/adult resort as well. Hotel was at capacity during our stay, but really it felt like our own private island. We chose a beach villa and found it to be very private.

This place is paradise. Exceptional service, incredible location. Fabulous staff. The service on the beach is exceptional, as soon as you arrive the wonderful beach staf deliver some ice cold drinks and a mister for you! plus, various treats throughout the day such as frozen watermelon or a mini chocolate icecream! nice touch. The best snorkelling spot is on the sunrise side just off the beach, amazing shoals of fish 'schooling'. When the tide comes in the bigger fish tend to come in too, unicorn fish, porcupine fish, wrasse... when it's out there are still loads of fish to see.I see some people commenting about the sand being hard, thats simply because its hard coral (versus soft), and that's just the nature of the location. We took a shark safari which was fabulous, chartered a boat to a sandbank for picnic, fabulous!!!! the Seaplane was unavailible that day - an excuse for us to return. Toiletries (L'Occitane) are provided in rooms, plus after sun & mosquito repellent so no need to bring them. SPF30 is freely availible on the beach too.Foodwise the reef club & Barrubarra are the way to go.The spa is on a separate teeny island which you take a dhoni to (about a 40 second trip). anyways, it is expensive but worth every penny!

We stayed in this hotel in late December 2012..

Looking at the resort on Google-Earth you'd think that the sun is always shining and the champagne's always cold and you never get old - but stop..

The real world dictates that there are thunderstorms (heavy storms) in the last two weeks of December (Christmas to New Years) and the booking staff wouldn't dream of telling you, and it's miserable, and it's rough, and it feels isolated and dangerous even, because the seas are so high and because you're so low to the sea and so far from the real world.

I don't think words can articulate how disrupted and unpleasant our sleep quality was in our overwater villa.

Those charming walkways over the water? Yeah they're charming, but infested with sharks of all sizes, below, at night. There will be no evening swimming here because the "men in grey suits" (sharks) come out in large numbers and differing sizes. And there are signs and life preserver rings everywhere warning of "strong currents". Well those currents are more like rapids that will suck the un-initiated out to sea or to another atol.!! This is not a genteel bathtub of fun and frivolity.. I went in, am a strong swimmer and thought "I could actually drown here".

The food is very good but not as good or better than fine indian food you might find in LA or NY or Seattle or SFO.. There is an illusion that spices hang in the air and food should taste better when 350 miles from the continent. Well that illusion is now firmly broken.

The seas and sky were so rough that when our plane took off I thought (just for a moment) that we might be a ghost-ship lost to the violent Indian Ocean and talked about on CNN.. that didn't happen but the flight was terribly rough.. so was our sleep at the hotel, so was the collective experience.

The villa itself reeked of urine.. We had smelled it once before at a good hotel in Europe.. It wasn't urine but rather, toxic ant-poison, sprayed to get rid of the untold number of insects seeking relief from the driving rain. You will not see these critters during the dry seasons but during the rains, be warned!

The butler was young too fawning. There when we didn't need him but not in sight when we did. We have an indian butler on staff at home so we know a bit about this.. Most will never have a butler so they will think they died and went to heaven, but we know that the butlers need more training, it's a youth thing..

We wound up leaving early.. the hotel staff were good about our early departure.. They were gracious and understood. For that we are greatful. Not much of a vacation. if we return we'll bring our own butler.

Be very careful booking and try to book during a time of year when the seas are calm. Remember - Everything that is "virtuous" about the Maldives turns into a "vice" when the weather is bad and the seas are high.

How rough was it really? The boat ride to the hotel is 30 minutes and includes 1.6 miles of open water crossing the channel of open unprotected indian ocean. On this boat-ride they made us all wear life vests (mandatory) -- and we were on a nearly new 55 foot yacht cruiser that got tossed around like it was a toothpick.

Room Tip: the overwater bungalows look like the right choice but the sharks and tides and rough seas had us pi...

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent visit to The Maldives.

It was unfortunate that during your two night stay that it rained for most of the day and you did not get to experience the Maldivian sun that has been shining since. We hope you give either our Resort or another one a second chance so you can truly see what the Maldives is about.

Wishing you all the best in 2013.
