The rooms and overal cleanliness is perfect. Very nice rooms with a perfect view! The rooms all have direct acces to the beach. The food is very good and variate. Perfect resort for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful sea life.
We defenitely come back an other time!

It is a place where the experienceable reality surpasses your dreamworld imagination! The overall experience was fabulous, the service was quick and efficient. A great feature of this resort is it's home-reef that was enthralling. The food was excellent with a variety of dishes. Not to mention the staff that was incredibly friendly. The All-Inclusive package was also irreproachable. The room itself had good soundproofing however you can hear the sound of ocean waves. Anyway, it is a quiet island... It has everything that a demanding person needs to enjoy an unforgettable and relaxing vacation. It goes without saying that I recommend this resort not only for it’s location, amenities and services but because of the people that work there and make you smile every time they pass by your side.

We spent 10 days at the Royal Island Resort in July . We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this resort to others. The resort is beautiful!

A few points to note-

Good-.
- The beach Villas, although a far walk from the main area are located in a great position with each one having access directly to the beach.
-The air-conditioner in our room worked well
-Although a little dated the beach villa’s are a decent size with plenty of room inside.
-At first we weren’t sure how we would like the “outdoor bathroom vibe” but it was actually quite nice showering outside in your private shower. We used this shower the whole time instead of the indoor one.
-The food was good, a lot of choices however the eating hall is quite hot which can sometimes be uncomfortable to eat.
-The whole island is beautiful, the sea life is amazing to see when snorkelling. We saw Sharks, ----Turtles and hundreds of colourful fish. The trees are amazing and over 200 years old.
-The pool is massive and located in a great spot with a pool bar.
-When playing sports you will receive complimentary towels and water.
-In the dining area you sit at the same table for the length of your stay with the same waiter which works really well.
-Plenty of wildlife to see around the place including bats, crabs, lizards etc
-Everything is charged to your room so there is no need for cash/cards.
-Staff are always polite and welcoming
-The grounds are well kept and clean

Not so good
-The resort was only at 40% capacity and we had to wait 5 days to get snorkelling gear even though it was included in our package. We checked more than twice a day and we would only get very basic answers “ No we don’t have any” Staff could have offered more assistance and information as to when some would be available.
-Staff were friendly however when asked questions gave very minimal information back.
-The room gets cleaned twice a day which was good to get fresh towels however we found a few basics were not being done. I.E the shampoo/ soap bottles replaced, the dressing gowns re-hung etc.
-We always had ants on our toilet and found under the inside rim is dirty and attracts insects.
-Our TV made a loud buzzing noise when in use.
-Although participating in fishing activities which are quite expensive you have to pay an extra 20 dollars a head for them to cook the fish you catch and you don’t necessarily get to eat the fish you personally caught depending on how many people decide to eat vs how many fish the boat has.
-The island hopping wasn’t good at all, the boat is very slow and loud. You go to one local island which was okay but then for “shopping” we got taken to dharavhandoo which is the island you land at (and leave from) to get transferred to the resort/Male and it takes about 5 minutes to see all the shops which are just little souvenir shops with people following you until you go in. You spend more time travelling on the boat than you do on the actual islands.
-We found a lot of Europeans at the resort to be hostile, rude and antisocial.
-The “fun pub” bar was always open however the bar inside was always closed and the lights were off so you would have to go back to the main bar every time you wanted a drink. There was nothing to really entice you to go to the fun pub.
-There are no smoking restrictions throughout the resort so in the dining area, bar area, pool area, beach area, pretty much everywhere there are people smoking.
We ordered a plate of spring rolls for over $10USD and got two tiny little spring rolls (less than 8cm long) cut in half.

Room Tip: I wouldnt consider staying in a Garden Villa, if you are travelling all this way, for the full exper...

We had a great time at this resort and would recommend it as a fun, affordable and relaxing visit to Maldives. In terms if luxury, i think there are other, more luxurious islands to visit and would rate it 4 star instead of 5 but still had a great time.

Our visit to Royal Island Resort was amazing. We really enjoyed the 10 days we spent there. We arrived at the end of July and expected that the weather could be unpredictable but we were lucky. It did rain most days but only for a few minutes or at night. The temperature was a constant 31 or 32 so if it rained it didn't matter. Being at the resort at this time of year also meant that there were not as many other guests on the island and at times we felt like we had our own island. I'm not sure I would like to be there during peak season as much. Our room was at one end of the island and we had a large shaded area in front of us and a great view out over the sea. The beach huts are wonderful because you have both shaded areas and sunbaking areas which is great for our white skin. There is a rock wall around the island and we probably had the greatest distance between our beach area and the wall which was probably nice aesthetically but not much else. The snorkelling around the lagoon and the rock wall was fantastic. This island is only 220 x 800 metres so it doesn't take long to walk around!! There are plenty of sporting activities there but not much else. We are usually pretty hyper people and we were worried that we would be bored, but no, the time went surprisingly fast. Be aware though some of the activities like diving are fairly expensive, and apart from a quick trip to another island, diving, fishing or snorkelling you are on the island the whole time. The food was lovely. We had half board which meant we had breakfast and dinner included. Drinks were a reasonable price and happy hour lasted two hours each day. There was a lovely restaurant there is you wanted something other than the buffet type meals. The staff at the resort are fantastic and so friendly although they do work on their own time. It took 3 days before we had enough people to do a trip to the other island. Overall a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: We has 131 and loved the quiet part of the island

Went there for honeymoon
positive: Amazing resort which still have the savage side, the great fresh food and drinks which is alot better that other resorts, and the nice attitude of employees

negative: RATS but it seems that it's the issue in all maldives resorts, anyways they don't come close to rooms or people which is faire enough
will deff go back for celebrating the wedding anniversary

Room Tip: choose south area bungalow for better beach side

Royal Island resort is contained on its own island within the Maldives. We booked as a couple, but the resort also seemed popular with families.

The beach villas have direct access to the beach and the shallow reef. I personally didn't see the garden rooms, but probably wouldn't bother booking one as the whole point of the resort is the beach and beautiful turquoise ocean.

Rooms are typical hotel style with bathroom, wardrobe space and sitting area. Air conditioning is provided, as is a mini bar, kettle, etc. Electrical sockets are 3pin UK style. The TV is old style CRT, but we didn't go to watch TV so it didn't bother us. The bathroom is open so you can shower out doors if you wish. The toilets are fed by rain water which looks a little strangle at first, but is a practical environmental solution on an island where every drop of drinking and bathing water is desalinated and purified locally and is very costly. This does mean that the tap water is drinkable though.

All meals are served buffet style, and we were assign a table and waiter for our duration. We stayed on half board (breakfast and evening meals), the breakfast buffet was as expected, breads, baked goods, egg chef, fruits, juices, etc and also included curry. The evening buffet provided a variety of foods catering to many tastes, but could become a little dull after two weeks. A selection of curries were always available, along with a 'live' chef area, fruits, breads, pasta, and more European dishes. The deserts always looked amazing, but seemed very similar from day to day. It was disappointing that table water was not included in the meals, but tea and coffee were. If the cost of water bothers you then fill a bottle from your tap for use during the day.

There are numerous activities and excursions, some of which we free, others are chargeable, these are expensive by anyone's standards. The facilities are good and seemed to be well maintained.

The beach villas are relatively secluded, the views are amazing, the staff are attentive and polite, you can snorkel directly in front of your villa, and we really did feel cut off from the rest of the world - which was exactly the point. I agree that this resort is not 5 star by European standards, but it is a very good 4 star, and it should always be remembered that this resort is in the middle of the ocean, sometimes the things we take for granted are not as important on the island, such as a flat screen TV and 17 different types of cheeses for dinner.

But be warned if you are a big drinker it could become very expensive by UK standards. Alcohol is prohibited, but is available in resort, all alcohol is imported and is therefore expensive (including wine), a beer is around 4$US, a cocktail is 9-18$US, and a bottle of wine starts at around 30$US.

To be completely honest, after a very busy couple of years this holiday was about doing not a lot in a great location, and it fitted the bill perfectly.

Room Tip: All rooms are similar so it really doesn't matter that much.
