“Wonderful relaxing break for our family of 5”

We drove from the UK to Portugal and arrived at our destination to the picture perfect view of the River Douro from the terrace in front of the chalet. Due to a forest fire and the road being closed, we had to re-route so missed meeting Joana but were in contact and she kindly left the gate at the bottom of the drive open and the chalet so we could get in after a long day having left Pamplona that morning! She then caught up with us later and was so lovely - brought us emergency supplies! in case we had missed the supermarket (we hadn't luckily) and showed us around

here's the summary:

We travelled with our 3 children, 1 x 15 year old girl and 2 x 13 year old twin boys. They loved the chalet and the pool. Joana showed us the sound system (located in the bar area) and we used it a LOT! We love being on holidays where we are not overlooked, we do not overlook and we can be ourselves so being able to play our CD collection very loud whilst in the pool etc was brilliant (my husband always does holiday mixed CDs and Portugal 2017 was a particularly good year ...) anyway:
Bonuses:
Very handy for the supermarket which was open every day even on the public holiday
Absolutely lovely pool - son number 1 was Pool Man clearing out bugs every day
Terrific terrace with outdoor seating and table and chairs for card games, eating, mooching etc Son number 2 had just discovered Harry Potter so ... was late to the party

Yetin - what a star - we had huge problems with our car and he became our local translator saving the day as our breakdown service local liaison was rubbish. Thank you Yetin. Nothing was ever too much trouble for him and I am still so grateful for all his help.
I also, rather late in the day, emailed him and asked what his 10 highlights were of things to do around the area and he gave me a very comprehensive list.

I am happy to answer any queries from anyone interested in going.
Things we did:
Drove to Porto and parked at the stadium (previous visitor's recommendation) which was bang on brilliant advice. Got the metro into Porto which was so easy. walked around Ribeira district. Bought tickets for Porto football team to play footie in the stadium ...! What a great night!

Went to Coa valley for the Rock Art - that was utterly epic and worth the 2.5 hour trip - easy roads (with some engineeringly astonishing bridges ...)

Went to the local beach BUT BE WARNED - the ferry from the nearest point (over the road to the right) didn't show up at all after an hour so we ended up driving - only 30 mins and only a euro or 2 to park. This is Lomba beach that you can see from the chalet - with people kayaking etc. There is NOISE from the jet skis (I hate them) ...

I would have done loads more sightseeing but kids not up to it - it was hot!

Also wanted to do waterskiing but v expensive - need to hire a boat.

We went to Guimaraes which was beautiful

Oh, beautiful and well kept gardens at the chalet - and a great games court to play basket ball and footie.

Things I would suggest that would smooth the path for new guests:

- a Welcome Pack for visitors telling them things like fuse box locations, what lights do what, contact numbers, nearest restaurants, opening times of the shop, where is the shop, bank details etc
- a Visitors book so people could look at other visitor suggestions/ideas for things to do. Everywhere I've gone on holiday has had one and it's so useful

Putting a table tennis or pool table in the bar area - the extraneous table indoors was just that. We would have used a tennis table all the time.

Kitchen - very tricky - would suggest blocing off the kitchen door and moving it to where the window is - the kitchen is sadly the low point of the chalet and, as self-catering accommodation this is a bit of an issue. I banged my shins numerous times trying to load the dishwasher as you cannot walk round the door when it's open. You can't have more than one person in the kitchen. Joana explained that 6 means low and 1 means high on the oven - that could have gone in the welcome pack. Also the kitchen tap was the wrong way round as in hot is cold and cold is hot. We bought a sharp knife, a peeler and some other bits to help our catering.

I think it needs a rethink! I went into it knowing what I was getting in to but to make it a bit better for future guests shouldn't be too hard.

The earlier comment from a previous guest about the busy road did bother me but we found a very easy solution which was: driving up the road on the right from Melres the entrance to the Chalet is on the Right. Go past the entrance and very soon after there is a big pull off to a gardening shop or something, anyway, you can go in there, then turn left on to the main road and have a much calmer entrance to the chalet.

Tap water not recommended. We spent many euros on bottled water.

Bedrooms - so the main bedroom is fab - spacious and with reading lights.
There were 3 other bedrooms, one bunk bed, 2 small doubles'.
Great bathrooms - all clean and FOUR LOOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How brilliant = one accessed from the outside so if you came up from the pool you could nip in and not get the house wet.

Hot water plentiful.

that's all I've got for now.... thank you Yetin and Joana, you made out stay very much easier and happier than through an agent.

“Stunning, Perfect, Excelled all expectations”

Me and 5 other friends (all male) recently stayed for a long weekend. Upon arrival (around 10PM) we were greeted by Yetin the villa owner who showed us around. I was blown away at the size and quality of the accommodation. The photos do not do it justice. We had our own pool, football court, bar, built in BBQ, enough seating areas to house a family the list could go on! The views were sensational.

We had pretty terrible weather for the first 3 days but the sun made an appearance on the last 2. This didn't dampen our spirits as we made full use of the accommodation and the short walk down into the town. There was a small café where we had breakfast and a few games of pool. The owners and workers were ridiculously kind and helpful and even gave us free shots!

The only thing I would recommend would be to hire a vehicle as Porto town center costs around 30 euros in a taxi. Again, not a moan but more advice for future tenants.

Yetin who owns the accommodation couldn't have been more helpful a real genuine top guy. We struggled to get a taxi into the town center for a night out and Yetin picked us all up and dropped us out at 11PM (from what I can remember). He showed us all the best bars and we had a great night.

All in all a superb villa with everything and I mean everything you will need for a chilled weekend with a BBQ and a few bottles of Super Bock, a night out in Porto or just sightseeing.

Highly recommend and we will return!

From Sam, Tom, Danny, George, Jordan and Dan.

“Spectacular View - Special Place.”

Yetin met us at the property and immediately took us around the front to take in the view, it was breathtaking! He had to drag us away to show us the rest of the place. To the side is a BQ area with its own little bar and seating area, the children loved it as they could play safely and pretend it was their own little haven.
The kitchen is very small. We soon got used to the fact that only one of us at a time could cook and potch about in there, everyone just left things on the hatch. As we had very young children we could not walk into the nearby village due to the fact there wasn't a pavement. The drive way into the casa has a very sharp turn off a busy road, luckily we didn't have a problem though one or two people had to brake very hard behind us to avoid an accident.
We absolutely loved the feel about the place. To wake up every morning to our wonderful view was magical and memorable. We would definitely return in the future. Thank you Yetin for your warm welcome.

“Million Dollar View and Nice Traditional Villa”
Reviewed 11 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

The villa overlooks the Douro, view is magnificent (even better than the pictures convey) and it was fabulous to cool off in a shaded part of the pool and watch the activities on the Douro. With family members having different interests, the villa provides excellent separation and space for the various interests with the main villa and also a BBC/bar/eating building. There are also 4 separate bathroom/toilet facilities which is very helpful. The location was also nice with the ability to drive 45 minutes up river into the port district and less than 30 minutes down river into Porto. It can be a bit tricky driving to the villa (there is a sharp turn in the road and a challenge to see what is coming from the Melres area) but well worth it once you see the view.

If going into Porto, we found that parking at the soccer stadium and taking the metro downtown and to the waterfront and port houses worked well and avoided the challenges of navigating and driving the narrow roads with a large rental car and also trying to find parking.

The service provided by Yetin was also fantastic. He provided input on things to do while we were planning the trip, was at the villa when we arrived and provided very helpful information. He also checked on how things were going and came over to ensure things were OK when a forest fire broke out up river and there was smoke in the air.

“Heavenly View - Peaceful and Restful”

I don't know where to start with this review...there are so many positive things to say about this rental property. Firstly - the view - WOW! Day or night this view is breathtaking. Breakfast will never be the same again now that we've had two weeks of looking at this incredible view at breakfast time. Secondly, Yetin the owner, went out of his way to welcome us to his house and show us around the area. He went above and beyond with his help. The chalet is comfortable and as a family of five it suited us perfectly. The pool looks out over the Douro river at possibly one of the best vantage points on this river. My son used the football and basketball courts everyday and we all used the pool. Ask Yetin to tell you where the 'Piri-piri' lady is at the weekends. Delicious Food! I would recommend you learn some Portuguese phrases before going if you do not speak the language as this area does not have many non-Portugese tourists (I think) and this is a big part of the charm of the area. It was lovely to meet the local people we met there. So helpful and friendly. There is lots to do in Porto and it is only about 30 mins by car. Parking was easy to find and inexpensive in Porto. We visited maybe 5 or 6 times. I would, without hesitation, love to go back and holiday in San Tiago. I don't think any photo could do this wonderful place justice. You have to see it to experience it.
Thanks to Yetin for all his help and advice.

“Million Dollar View on the River Bend”
Reviewed 30 November 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We stayed here for a week driving to various tourist locations in the area. The bathrooms are modern and clean. The home is suitable for two couples with room for kids. The kitchen is small but well equipped. The hosts was very gracious and even took us on a tour of the local village pointing out various amenities, stores and restaurants. The wi-fi works very well. We enjoyed having our evening meal on the patio every night that we stayed here. There is some unavoidable traffic noise from the highway below otherwise the neighborhood is quiet. We made good use of the washer and clothes dryer in the recreation building that also housed a large bar.
