My wife and I recently revisited Fairshaw Rigg to see if it was as good as when we stayed in the summer. The answer? Every bit as good if not better. This time we had a different room with the same Alpaca pillows and duvet which made for a great nights sleep despite the storm raging without.
As before everything was of the highest standard for cleanliness and service. If you can find a better B & B I for one would be surprised. Well done to Kathryn and Paul.

Room Tip: Doesn't matter, they are all excellent.

My partner and I went on a last minute trip to the North East, choosing to stay at Fairshaw Rigg because of the reviews on this site. Firstly, I can’t recommend staying here enough. Secondly, we will definitely stay here again.

The room and facilities were top class, with many little touches that made our stay as comfortable as being at home.

Added to this was the high level of hospitality and resources of our host. From helpful local knowledge to serving up a quality breakfast on all three mornings, he definitely helped us get the most from our trip.

Also, once you pet an Alpaca, you never go backa…

Hi Martin

I really enjoyed hosting you both and pleased to cope without "the boss" who was having a well earned break. Many thanks for helping us with such a positive review.

Hope to see you again sometime.

We were going horseracing, at Hexham, and our friends found this Bed and Breakfast – and what a find.

Lovely rooms, lovely hosts, freshly cooked breakfast (with eggs from their own hens), all coupled with a great night’s sleep. The room was nicely presented, the bed very comfortable, (complete with alpaca duvet), and the bathroom was large with big soft towels and lovely toiletries. My only complaint or rather observation was at just less than five foot three the mirror was too high on the wall!

Now, what made it for me, I am an animal lover! I couldn’t wait to meet the alpacas and Paul (the owner and host) was very generous with his time and took us into the field to feed and meet them - I was overjoyed - they are lovely – I want my own alpacas! They also have two lovely friendly cats, and two dogs who really do love to play ball – and they were pleased to find that we were happy to play ball with them!

Let me add that the place is “spotless” – the animals are kept totally separate from the guest accommodation so you won’t find a cat or a dog hair in your room or the dining room. So although it doesn’t matter if you aren’t an animal lover, you don’t have to go into the fields to stroke the alpacas, (we were kindly loaned wellies), and you could ignore the dogs and cats (you would have to have a hard heart)! For me the animals and the whole ambiance was the icing on the cake.

The hosts were fantastic and Paul kindly recommended a couple of places to eat and arranged taxis for us. Highly recommended for the welcome, the rooms, the stay, and the “alpaca” experience. I bought a lovely beanie hat made from alpaca wool!

Ove the years I have stayed in quite a few bed and breakfasts and often find them better than 4 and 5 star hotels. This one is in my top 5. We will definitely be staying there again when we visit Hexham racecourse!

Many thanks for your detailed and wonderful review Kate.

I'm pleased to report all the animals are enjoying some drier, warmer weather - a little bit like when you were here.

We look forward to welcoming you again soon.

We had a lovely two nights at Fairshaw Rigg visiting for the New Years Eve celebration in Allendale. There is a great attention to detail in the rooms including; somewhere to put those dirty boots, fresh milk for drinks, hot water bottles and when they noticed we had some wine glasses appeared for the next day. The guest area has a private entrance and this added to our comfort as you felt you could come and go without disturbing anyone.
The property was exceptionally clean and decorated in a bright fresh style.
Like all of the previous reviewers we had great breakfasts and Paul was on hand to make sure we had everything we needed.
If anyone is considering staying her to visit Allendale for the Tar Barrels next year I would recommend it. The journey is approximately ten miles and we were back within twenty minutes of the celebrations ending.

We have been so delighted to have had the opportunity to stay in this wonderful B&B. It truly is an exceptional place to spend a few days of rest and relaxation. It's ideally located in the countryside but close to Hexham. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted very warmly by Paul who showed us to our accommodation. The bedroom was extremely well equipped, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was really lovely and clean with fluffy towels, soaps, shower gel, shampoo and body lotion supplied. There is also a fridge in the hallway with fresh milk, water and space for a few of our own items. The breakfast is fantastic. There is a good choice of cereals etc and a cooked breakfast with local ingredients including their own eggs collected the day before. We also had the opportunity to meet the alpacas which Paul and his wife Catherine keep in the field next to the house. Paul took time to introduce us to the alpacas and explain how they differ from each other. It was very interesting and informative and we loved it! It was really nice to come back to Fairshaw Rigg after a busy day out. Paul and Catherine are the perfect hosts and we really look forward to seeing them again.

Thank you very much for your very kind review. Pleased you enjoyed your stay so much and meeting the alpacas. They're enjoying some sun today after a damp windy few days.

Hope to see you both again soon.

What a fantastic place to stay. Beautifully modernised barn conversion. The room was excellent with all the facilities you could want inc tea/coffee/fresh milk and shortbread biscuits and even a chocolate each. I have stayed in 5* hotels of a lower standard. The breakfast was all you could wish for and the owners went out of their way to make our stay perfect. Hard to think of any way our stay could have been improved. Will def stay here again.

Room Tip: They are all good!
