This place is a gem. Fabulous location, in beautiful countryside while being very convenient for Hexham, Hadrian's Wall and other attractions. The rooms are beautiful, and superbly comfortable. We particularly liked the bathrooms: modern, spacious, and with everything you could possibly need provided. The family are welcoming and hospitable. Breakfast was first-rate, with some thoughtful options alongside the traditional full English. Kathryn's vegetarian platter was delicious, especially the potato and apple rösti. We were en route to Scotland, so we only stayed one night, but hope to go back for a proper stay before too long.

So pleased you enjoyed your short stay and hope you will return. Kathryn works hard on her breakfasts and we are proud to offer such a wide choice of freshly cooked food.

We had a wonderful stay during easter at Fairshaw Rigg!

Paul & Katherine are excellent hosts. The rooms very charming and inviting, I appreciated the extra electric heater in addition to the room radiator to keep me warm. the homemade breakfast was filling and delicious! The B&B was conveniently located for our visit to Hadrians wall, Vindolanda and the Roman museum. We also used it as a base to visit Holy Island for a day.

We have already recommended this to many of our friends even those who don"t have any immediate plans to visit Northern England.

It was lovely to meet the granddaughters again and I'm pleased they found Fairshaw Rigg more comfortable than the caravan! We look forward to hearing from you when the racing calendar is set for next year:)

Four of us spent four nights here last week -- taking two of the three available rooms -- and we can't speak highly enough of our hosts, Paul and Kathryn and their daughter Hannah. Their warm hospitality and genuine concern for their guests made our stay in Northumberland memorable indeed. We enjoyed their company almost as much as the wonderful home for travelers they have created in the wilds outside of Hexham. They define the very idea of a bed and breakfast.

We slept soundly every night and always looked forward to a delicious North country breakfast, chatting with the other guests or sipping coffee as we planned our outings for that day.

Four (or rather eight) very big thumbs up for the Fairshaw Rigg -- if we ever go back to that part of England we will make a point of staying there again.

Fairshaw Rigg is a very comfortable place to stay. Lovely, clean and quiet rooms that are very spacious and clean. Very quiet with wonderful views. The breakfast was delicious and there was plenty of it! The location is very convenient for all of the sites including Vindolanda and Hadrian's Wall. Hexham also has a lot to offer as a traditional market town. A visit to the gaol is well worth it!

Room Tip: The larger rooms are very spacious and comfortable. You'll need to put the heaters on if you go...

We stayed at Fairshaw Rigg for four nights and it was always a pleasure to come back to, being warm, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated and furnished. The family is very 'sympathique' and it was so interesting seeing the alpacas and hearing about their breeding and care. The breakfasts were delicious with lots of choice and plenty of time to relax and talk with other guests. The Tyne valley is beautiful, even in the mist, and Fairshaw Rigg combines a lovely, rural location with easy access to lots of interesting places.

After quite a difficult drive in very thick fog, we were relieved to arrive at Fairshaw Rigg on the outskirts of Hexham - farm buildings converted to a very high standard and offering very comfortable, one-level en suite accommodation.
Definitely a highlight were the alpaca duvets and pillows - the owners have a flock of these gentle animals and their wool is supremely light and warm - perfect in chilly Northumbrian weather! You can buy wool to knit or various garments as well as bedding - not cheap, but the best there is.
A communal fridge outside the guest rooms offers fresh milk and water as well as the tea trays in the country-style rooms. Books, magazines and DVDs as well as lots of local info are all provided.
Breakfast (with a good choice for all) is taken at a long table with other guests, which is a good opportunity to meet other travellers and exchange news and views.
Our hosts clearly work hard to maintain high standards and it shows.
