“Brilliant Food”
Reviewed 6 April 2014 via mobile

We had a perfect Sunday lunch. Also inspected the rooms which are as looked as good as any boutique hotel. Andy and Maureen clearly keen to make this a great place to stay and eat. Would recommend without hesitation

'Stephen H' (previous reviewer) has given an accurate picture of the pub we found this past week. It was our first stay in a Stainforth self-catering cottage (shared with relatives) - although we had visited the village a few times during walks. We had never ventured into the pub before because it had never looked welcoming - well, it is a different story now! We had been following the pub's progress online (one way or another) because we knew we had booked the cottage.

We were hoping for a lovely Stainforth 'local' and weren't disappointed. The landlady is very friendly. We can only speak for the food and drink .... both were great. Four of us enjoyed the Giant Yorkshire Pudding, with sausages/mash/onion gravy (x 2); Gammon & Chips; and Steak & Kidney Pie. All were delicious. Speaking for myself, there were three large, meaty sausages and I just couldn't finish the last one. Many products are sourced locally.

The pub had been shut for four months but is now all nicely renovated and hasn't been up and running again for long - we wish the tenants all the luck in the world, as they work hard to re-establish the pub. The village & villagers deserve a decent local.

Stayed one night while travelling on business. A traditional village pub that has just been extensively renovated for this season, and to very high standards. All the bedrooms appear to have been completely refurbished. I had a single, which was compact but very comfortable with all new furnishings; the ensuite was small but spotless. Wi Fi only works in the downstairs bars, but its no hardship to work there near the wood fire. There is a menu of mainly "pub favourites" at very reasonable prices: I had fish and chips which was excellent, well cooked and presented. Good cooked breakfast cooked early to suit my departure. Excellent value - room, evening meal, a pint of Thwaites and breakfast for under £60. The hosts have come out of retirement to resurrect this pub, and it benefits from their previous experience in the trade and their high standards - I hope that they get the success that their hard work deserves. Recommended to anyone who finds themselves in Ribblesdale for work or pleasure. Stainforth is a lovely little Dales village with a small river flowing down through it ( hunt out the stepping stones across!), and easy access to good walks and extensive views. I hope I get the opportunity to stay again soon.

Lovely pub, great to see it re-opened and hopefully flourishing.
However the first impressions were not very good. a seemingly grumpy welcome and any attempt at pleasantries non existant.
However we ordered meals and drinks and very good they were too, and we even managed a bit of banter with the landlady
but on paying and leaving I cannot even remember anyone saying a thanks or goodbye.
poor customer service, but will go back

This pub has recently been refurbished and Andy and Maureen have done a sterling job. We were their first guests in the newly renovated rooms and what a treat. The decor is tasteful and of a high standard. The beds are sumptuously comfortable and the bedding of real quality.
Our hosts bent over backwards to make us feel very welcome and couldn't do enough to help us and our family. The food was great too.

The landlords have completely turned round the fortunes of this lovely country pub and deserve to do well in the future. This place is ideally placed for a lovely weekend in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside or for a wedding at the nearby Taitlands.

A wonderful place. We will definitely be looking for an excuse to go back.

Visited for first time in 12 months as last time we visited it was awful. There are new owners who took over in October 2013. What a transfomation. It is now a welcoming pub with roaring log fires, a friendly atmosphere and we ate on the first weekend they did food and were very pleased with what we got. I wish the new owners every success and I am sure if they keep up these standards they will be swamped with people staying and eating here.

After years of neglect this pub has truly been transformed. Andy and Maureen have worked so hard to get this pub up to the standard it deserves. All the bedrooms have been transformed and they look gorgeous. The pub is immaculate and the steak was the best that I have eaten for a long time. We were told that there would be at least half an hour wait for food as it is all home cooked "it was worth the short wait". My husband had the steak pie with short crust pastry and he could not finish it.
In the hallway there are towels to dry muddy dogs which was a very nice thought. Andy and Maureen are a lovely couple and we wish them all the luck in their new venture as they both deserve it.
Thanks to the chef also who made me a bread and butter pudding with cream which was to die for.
Cant wait till next weekend so I don't have to cook and enjoy the atmosphere of this traditional Yorkshire pub.

Joanne and Colin
