“Home sweet home”
Reviewed 1 January 2017 for a stay in December 2016

After a short stay in Tanah Lot we headed north to Cosy Wayan Sueta Bed & Breakfast, situated just outside Ubud. If you want to experience real village life in Bali then this is the place to go.

There is an incredible community spirit here, which is very rare in Western civilisation these days. During our stay a new building was being constructed by locals, which will ultimately be the site of the new kitchen. Keeping the locals employed on projects such as this keeps money in the village.

Wayan's wife Ayu basically runs the operation. I don't think we have ever met a more accommodating host. If you need her to organise something for you she'll do it. She made numerous phone calls for us, which would have cost a fortune if we had used our own mobile phones.

Ayu is a fine cook and will knock you up a delicious Balinese dinner if you ask her for a very reasonable price. She will even boil you up some Indomie or knock you up a sandwich if that's what floats your boat. Better still ask her for a cooking class. You can then tap into her knowledge before feasting on your creations. It is cooking using instinct rather a recipe book so be ready to take notes and pictures if, like me, you have a memory like a sieve.

You can also learn how to make traditional Bali coffee from scratch. If you haven't tasted Bali coffee, it is one of the best in the world - possibly the best. We made our own batch and are taking it back to the UK to enjoy instead of the supermarket crap that we normally drink.

If you fancy a massage then Ayu will arrange for the local masseuse Ibu Asih to stop by to your room and give you a traditional Balinese massage for the sum of 100,000 IDR. Great value for a superb massage.

As the B&B is effectively based in the jungle you will have to put up with a variety of different insects and bugs. We went in the rainy season, which meant more bugs than usual. To be fair there weren't too many in our room, probably because the resident Gecko was chomping on them.

There are a number of animals in the compound. The two dogs - Blackie and Fido - are absolutely great. If you turn up with some dog biscuits they will adore you.

Blackie and Fido are joined by some cats and numerous chickens. You just can't beat a bit of Foghorn Leghorn to wake you up in the morning.

Breakfast is simple but tasty. Omelette or banana pancake with fresh fruit and Bali coffee.

It takes about 20-30 minutes to get into the centre of Ubud. Ayu's son Agus can take you there and pick you up later.

We can't speak highly enough of Ayu and Wayan and would highly recommend their B&B to anyone wanting to experience proper Balinese living.

Oh and they also have wifi so there is no requirement to speak to anyone if you don't want to.

“So good we came back again..”
Reviewed 22 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We have now had our second visit to stay with Wayan, Ayu and their family. It was the highlight of our first trip to Bali, so we were so excited to bring the kids this time, knowing that we could show them the best of this beautiful island and it's people. The kids are already talking about another visit. Wayan and Ayu embrace all who stay with them as extended members of their family. The accommodation is beautiful, the food is the best we've eaten in Bali... but mostly it's who they are, the beautiful village they live in, and the people who stay with them that make this such a unique treasure in Bali. Thank you Wayan and Ayu for giving us another wonderful stay with you.

“Amazing”
Reviewed 28 February 2016 for a stay in February 2016

This place is about 25 minutes North West of Ubud central by car. The room is located at the rear of a local village compound, the home of Ayu and Wayan and their two boys. Our room had the most incredible indoor/outdoor bathroom with Monsoon shower head, hot water and western toilet. King bed, free Wi-Fi and surrounded by the most beautiful gardens you would ever hope to see.
The hosts are truly amazing. Beautiful warm people who make you feel especially welcome, after all as Wayan says this is your home now.
Ayu's cooking is the best we experienced in all of Bali. Traditional flavours of Bali for sure.
Walking, cycling, treking, waterfalls are all close by.
If you want to experience the real Bali then this is the place. Wayans knowledge built up over many years as a tour guide is second to none. I truly believe he knows everything there is to know about the history and culture of Bali.
A memorable stay for a couple in their 50's

“Beautiful oasis”
Reviewed 24 February 2016 for a stay in December 2014

We had an amazing stay with Wayan, Ayu, and their boys over the new year. Accomodations were beautifully detailed and the outdoor shower and lush landscaping were a delight. Wayan and Ayu are both artists in their own way. Definitely take a cooking class with Ayu to learn true Balinese cooking. Book a massage in your room for the ultimate in relaxation. We cannot wait to go back!

We stayed for 3 nights in Wayan Sueta´s Guest house ...
3 days we will never forget anymore extended with 4 amazing days of road-trip with Wayan ....This man, this family, made our holiday in Bali unforgettable. They made it so special for us:
- Just by being the great persons they are. To offer us directly a warm Welcome in their home from the very first moment. Ayu and Wayan you are fantastic !
- To let us meet the delicious food homemade by Ayu ! Still feel sorry that we didn´t took cooking classes with her.
- By letting us stay in a comfy, clean and very nice room. Room was cleaned every day, outside shower,... Everything you need for an urban-stay in the middle of their fantastic garden.
- By showing us such a beautiful places on the island every day. No distance was too much for them to let us explore the most beautiful places of Bali and his nature, his culture, his population, ...
- For so much more ... Great massage experience; Great evening moments with palm-wine, amazing Wayan stories, ....

We had a wonderfull vacation and we hope that more people will take the chance to pass by and toenjoy a nice stay at Cozy Wayan Sueta´s guesthouse.

“Really was the real Bali”
Reviewed 20 January 2015 for a stay in January 2015

Booked this through Airbnb and glad we did.

Great location outside of the now very busy Ubud. Made very welcome by hosts who go out of their way to make you part of their family and village community.

Lovely family compound with traditional buildings and glorious flowers/orchids/fresh fruit.

Food excellent: no need to go out of the village to eat.

Nothing too much trouble for hosts, everything, including pick ups, were spot on.

Some lovely trips, a nice evening walk from the villa past the paddy fields to the farmers temple, accompanied by the dogs! But be aware that you will have workers, male & female, naked as they wash away the days muck in the streams!

Would recommend to anyone that wants a quiet, community based break. We loved it

“Experience the real Bali”

Staying with Wayan and his family was an amazing experience. At first I was a little worried that the b&b was so isolated. But after staying there, I wouldn't change a thing. The rural location is why it is so amazing. No where else gives you such an opportunity to experience the 'real Bali'!

Wayan took us on some day trips and tours, which were amazing. We saw much more than the average tourist. Also, Wayan used to be a tour guide and knows the answer to every question we could think of.

Wayan's wife Ayu cooked our breakfast and most of our lunches and dinners. Her cooking was soooooo good. Much better than any local restaurant. You haven't lived until you've had the chicken satay cooked on lemongrass skewers.

Ayu also helped us to organise things like laundry, souvenirs and meetings with the local healer for palm /chakras readings etc.

The room we stayed in was beautiful and very comfortable. The bathroom was the nicest we saw in Bali. The garden shower was the most amazing thing to come across after weeks in different hostels with cold water and no water pressure. I loved it.

The open plan of the compound is really beautiful. And the gardens are gorgeous. It was such a relaxing atmosphere.

I even loved the dogs, especially the puppy called Bintang!! I miss him!!

After a week at Wayan and Ayu's b&b, it was really hard to leave. It was the only place where i felt i could experience the 'real Bali'. I can't wait to go back!
