Enigmata Treehouse Ecolodge

Camigin is truly a gem province. The place is quiet, peaceful, verdant and simply beautiful. And staying in Enigmata in a way complements that theme. It gives you a feel of the provincial life... set ages back :) There is no tv here folks. Not much entertainment actually except the beauty of nature. There are old magazines and books everywhere (which are quite dusty) and a lot of art pieces (which are oftentimes weird).
The experience, though, is very unique. The staff are great too. But it's certainly not a place for the squeamish. And the downside is that the place needs an upkeep.

Room Tip: Try their green omelet!

Wow, what a place! Sculptures, art, turtles, music, helpful staff, yummy food and great company. Oh did I mention we slept in a treehouse! We booked in weeks in advance (given it was xmas time) Lucky we did, the whole place was booked out and tourist after tourist was turned away given the treehouse was at maximum capacity. A group of 9 of us decided Enigmata would be the perfect place to hold our first business meeting for 2012. The design and feel of this whole place was amazing! The creative juices flowed and made for a very interesting brainstorming event. We stayed in the eagles nest and loved the fact we could hang out in our own space (other than the other amazing space of Bahay Kalipay library) We could surf the net, lay on hammocks, chat, read, shower and dine all in the tree tops. We stayed over new years and the staff lovingly did some local catering and shared their traditions with us, as the hrs rolled on into 2012 we sung, drummed & laughed into the early hrs of the morning. The only drawback was the whole time we were there it poured with rain and sometimes woke up with wet feet from some tree leakage...but it was all apart of the fun and adventure of staying in a tree house. Dream Fulfilled. :)
* Also keep your eye out for the local wire artist, he is simply amazing!

Room Tip: Try to book the eagles nest (level 3) for groups and the shell room level 2 for couples! The backpac...

Dear Sunna101,

Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience and for supporting our community project by staying with us. We are happy to be part of your creative process. That is the main purpose of the place and i hope we can continue to inspire people. Please spread the happy experience. Yes, when it rains, it pours in the island. Then we have the opportunity to see the sky through the holes in the roof and run around with rain catchers in style. :) Thank you for bringing such a positive energy and adding your creative juices to the place. You definitely made a perfect way to travel by connecting to the locals and sharing their culture in the moment. sharing our hearts and visions are important. By the end of the day, we become more beautiful people as we continue to share and inspire each other. We loooove your attitude and positive energy. As you said "Dream Fulfilled". More blessings and creative juices coming your way...

This place is out of this world. I felt like in a fairy tale.
Everything is constructed with soo much detail. If you like really clean concrete rooms without bugs or a little dust here and there, this might not be the place for you. But if you are a more adventurous type I would definately recommend this place. The food menu is rather small, but tasty. I loved the fact they had brown bread. The people working there, are volunteers and they offer art classes to children in the neighborhood (also a reason to support them). At night you would sometimes hear some gentle guitar playing and see some youngsters making little statutes of iron wire.

Enigmata was one of the most inspiring and comfy places I have ever been to - I felt like having found a new home. It is the perfect place for relaxing in one of the huge hangmats, reading one of those many collected books or having a walk through the with sculptures and paintings decorated garden. The perfect place for backpackers, eco-tourists, businessmen who want to relax and families.

Have a look at my blogpost about Enigmata: http://onmywayphilippines.wordpress.com/2011/08/16/inspiring-space-enigmata-treehouse/

Dear Kerstin,

Thank you for sharing your heart and your philosophy in the way you travel and connect to people. Your blog and website is so inspiring. I made it a link to our website as travel blog and travel story trail links. i will add more relevant stories so the people can share as you started "giving voice to everybody". you certainly have a special eye and a good heart to be able to connect with our visions and space. We hope to see you again or connect on line as we continue to inspire each other. When you come back, the gardens would be taller than most of us, as we let nature outgrow us as we do our jobs as gardeners of happiness. Me and my friends went to Camiguin to explore the island and experience the Lanzones Festival. We learned about Enigmata Treehouse Ecolodge through the internet and our stay there was truly a unique experience! Considering the fact that we grew up in the busy city, we had a great time living in a treehouse (our accommodation was the Eagle's Nest). I like the the staff (volunteer artists), they were very warm, thoughtful and understanding (Ms. Bambam was very helpful). The entire place was like art - - - Enigmata in itself was an attraction!

camiguin is a very beautiful island. i wanted to experieance the feel of the island's spirit and it's unique touch. i looked for a very different lodging place that won't remind me of the city and instead bring me to a place that help me forget about the hussle and bussle and just enjoy the company of my husband.

that was when i encountered ENIGMATA.

i would like to list down 5 reasons wny i believe that the place is perfect :

1. easy on the pocket. it's priced Php 800 for a suite room
2. unique atmosphere
3. intriguing architectural designs (and furnishings too!)
4. GREAT service! ( Rosalie and her staff were very accommodating and very attentive to our needs. she guided us to where we can go, what we can do. no extra charge!)
5. GREAT Host (thanks, Rosalie!)

We would really go back there soon!

Dear Deejay_ayen,

Thank you for bringing your love and joy to the space. We have to let you know that we have had wonderful experiences with honeymooners, anniversary, alternative wedding with special rituals in our space and Enigmata baby made at the treehouse. Its a total wholesome family affair and for you saying that the "place is perfect" we can only agree more with all the perks that goes with natural living, rain water leaks, bugs in season, frogs kokaking, gecko and birds chirping, and most of all simple living. Come again to Camiguin,

I love this place, more a work of art than a hotel it is build around an acacia tree. For facilitys theres a swimming pool and a bar/restaraunt and fantastic works of art everywhere you look. The staff are great and a fountain of advice on what to see and do on your stay on the Island. Motorbike hire is available as well. This is the place to stay if you want to really get into this beautiful island

Dear seaside911,

Thank you for appreciating the art space. The main goal of integrating the living spaces with our cultural principles is to inspire people and live with style and natural fashion. Living in a natural space is high maintenance because of the harsh weather, so we continue to strive to survive as a creative enterprise to be able to welcome wonderful travelers like you. Share the inspiration and hope that more people share this beauty.

Additional Information about Enigmata Treehouse Ecolodge

Address: Maubog, Balbagaon, Mambajao, Island, Mindanao 9100, Philippines
Region: Philippines > Mindanao > Camiguin
Hotel Style:
Ranked #21 of 33 Speciality Lodging in Camiguin
Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Enigmata Treehouse Ecolodge celebrated its charm as a prime cultural destination and being a unique destination in the world for over a decade expanding the network of travellers, artists and environmentalists. In 2014, the management was burdened by the proposed construction of a diesel power plant 100 meters away within a residential area built by a private corporation in partnership with the local electric coop supported by the local government. Enigmata treehouse stood against the diesel power plant among a few other local people. A campaign was launched to stop the construction until up to this day due to its environmental pollution including noise pollution. It is unfortunate that a small island cannot choose sustainable renewable measures in energy consumption while there are better solutions to prioritize the needs of the locals over commercial purposes. Enigmata served the community all these years as a artist and training camp for the local teachers, youth and children, It has been visited by people from more than 90 countries and supported by several local and international benefactors in its biodiversity art education and cultural-based and art education. The vision of a green eco-living was the aim of the treehouse to go off grid. The operation dwindled, the staff come and go, the operation suffered. It was hard to envision a future for Enigmata Treehouse next to a diesel power plant. Recently, a tragic event happened for unknown reason the treehouse was burned down October 22, 2015 around 1:44 am with undetermined cause of fire. We stopped operation and now planting a forest to heal the land. Everything has a reason. The fire calls for purification, change and newness... Thank you to those who understood the purpose of Enigmata more than just an ecolodge and those who supported Enigmata all these years... The inner fire of Enigmata keeps on burning. What is left standing amidst the debris is the intangible heritage that I wish to grow and blossom in the hearts of the children. Let this memory of beauty be monument of the heart. ... more   less
