When we turned onto the road down to Crowlista it was a big wow the view was fantastic ,we arrived ay Airbroc after a long journey ,walked into the house and i thought i'd walked into the wrong house ,It was disgusting work surfaces stained cutlery draws and utensils draw all had food crumbs in and hair all the cutlery had to be washed ,pans and pan cupboard dirty, grease on lamp shades and the cooker hood was thick with grease and the little bedroom down stairs was that bad we named it the corps room because it smelt bad and looked bad you could imagine a dead body laid out in it ,the sun room needed gutting cobwebs all down the backs of the settees ,dead bugs under the settees ,under the cushions were crumbs and hair ,food on walls ,paint peeling off and looking like it needs a very good overhaul in every room .The biggest and most upsetting was the state of the sheets and mattresses this was only discovered when we stripped the beds after our stay (we slept on towels from the start because if i had seen the mattresses i wouldn't have slept in the beds ,the beds were so stained i felt sick the worse ones were the double on its own and one of the singles in the double room at the back .We paid a thousand pounds for this house for a week ,me, my sister and daughter spent two hours cleaning and to be honest could have done with a full day and more but we were on holiday ,we hope the people that followed us find it cleaner than us ,plenty photographes have been taken on our mobiles to back us up...............On the more good note we loved the Isle of Lewis ,we had sea eagles and golden eagles flying above us and would return most mornings and evenings, everyone was really friendly, we went to the Black houses very interesting,Hebridean soap company two lovely ladies who explained how the soaps and candles are made and they smelt wonderful and we came across a lovely lady at Carloway who had two looms and explained how her husband started making Harris tweed when they moved back to the family home, well worth a visit they had some lovely colours of Harris Tweed to buy all with the authentic badges.
Had a wonderful few days in this amazing part of our country. Airebroc is a great house with every amenity you could wish for. It is situated overlooking the beach offering great walks over the sands to the front or you can explore the fields and lochs out the back. It is well situated for exploring all of lewis and harris delights.
We loved this house, lots of space for our family and guests, all amenities provided, hosts easy to communicate with. We ordered food from the fabulous community shop which had been delivered to the house when we arrived. Best of all was the sun room, our fave spot, with superb views of Uig sands and the Lewis mountains.
We stayed at Airebroc to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday with our 2 year old son and couldn't have been happier. The cottage was everything we hoped for and more, it is a beautiful old house with all modern comforts to make an extremely comfortable stay. The view from the panoramic sunroom at the back is absolutely stunning, it's a bright warm room so even on a miserable day you can pass the time enjoying the wonderful landscape. Beyond that there is a lot of space downstairs, you can light a fire in the cosy living room, spend time cooking in the large spacious kitchen, or sit in the study/music room which also has a sofa.
It was a real pleasure to stay in such a nicely furnished and homely place, things like nice lighting, furnishings, nice duvets, pillows and art on the walls make all the difference to enjoying spending time relaxing inside (which is particularly important for a winter break in Scotland!). The central heating warms the house very nicely so we were never chilly!
It is also so well-equipped, we really appreciated that many of the basics were already there like soap, dishwasher tablets, kitchen roll, clingfilm etc, and it was so nice to be able to cook and always find a good selection of utensils and crockery. Often when staying in a self catering place you constantly find you are missing things that you would have at home, which wasn't the case here. It worked well staying with our 2 year old, there was a high chair and cot, and a few toys, and aside from keeping an eye on the stairs he could toddle around quite freely.
The owners are extremely nice and helpful and have obviously put a lot of thought and pride into offering a comfortable holiday home. I really hope we'll be back at some point for a longer stay!
My husband and I stumbled on Uig Bay 8 years ago while making a one-night stay. We were so impressed we promised ourselves we'd return someday. Our week at Airebroc was more impressive than we imagined.
The house is charming with it's individual style, a taste of the old but with all the modern conveniences. Of course the sunroom was the real hit. You could sit in any kind of weather and be surrounded with the beauty of the bay and the mountains. A shop with just about anything you might need is only 5 minutes away by car. I spent literally hours at a time wandering about the area. It's a photographer's paradise. Stornaway is only a hour by car which makes a outing very easy. Although there is so much to see and do close to Uig Bay we really appreciated the quiet and solitude of the house. We would definitely return, given the opportunity.
The sun room is what makes this house! We spent most of our time watching the tide, reading or dozing in the warm sunshine and admiring the ever changing view. The house is well placed to explore Lewis from and for evening walks on the beach! Simply wonderful!
Loved the house - felt at home immediately. Beautifully kitted out, and the owners provided a few welcome gifts of local products, which was really thoughtful. The house had everything we needed, and the sun room was perfect for relaxing - we spent most of our time there. The location is amazing - the beaches are among the best we've ever visited, and yet were almost always deserted. Lots of historical sites to visit, fabulous hills and walks, and delicious freshly caught scallops and oysters were among the many highlights. We certainly hope to go back!
