At the time of our stay July 24, 2017 there is only one restaurant in the island that serve their free breakfast. I waited 45 minutes for my food to arrive - very long wait although there are only us & other group [6 people] in the restaurant at that time. It's everyday and not just this incident and as what other had reported in the past review. Food also is limited of choice some on the menu are not available. For this price [$400/day] of resort its unacceptable! Why not change your breakfast to BUFFET!

Huma Island Resort has about 80 suites as is divided into the Beach Villas, The Water Villas, The Family Villas and the Presdidential Villa. It has it's own coffee maker of which you can brew your own coffee via coffee pods, 24 hour wifi service, unlimited bottled water, ironing board, free wifi service, free fruit platter and a free bottle of wine for guests and a lot more.
Of Course, The meals from the different restaurants, the private van service, the ferry boat service are all included in the price.

They have their own power generator, their own desalination plant (not used for drinking water, a private seaplane service and also complimentary shuttle bus service and ferry boat service included on the price.

I call it a five star resort because of the cost and the view. We got a villa right on the waters. It was just amazing to sit on the porch and look over the sea. The views were truly magnificent. Never mind that the air conditioning didn't get really cold even though it says 17 degrees. I put that to my hormones. The technician did come but said that there was nothing he could do. So as long as you are okay looking at the view, it is FIVE STAR. Now, the food is a different business altogether. While there are several restaurants, the kitchen is one and the same.

I ordered Surf and Turf, but because of my allergies (yes, aside from the hormones), I was served double TURF. The problem was I didn't know it was cooked for dogs in mind. Maybe I wouldn't give it to my dogs too. It was well done, difficult to even cut. But here's the thing... the staff and the managers really worked hard to please the guest. Finally, I was given the catch of the day - cooked perfectly.

My advice is to stick to the catch of the day. Just make sure you aren't served Jackfish all the time because that could be the only catch of the day.

Yes, I agree the place looked a bit rundown. Not exactly what one would expect for the cost. But the staff tried their best to please and I am told that the resort is due for renovation. So HUMA can be truly five star all the way.

We visit the Philippines every few years and we have taken a vacation by treating ourselves to a high end resort and left feeling happy and relaxed. We also felt we got our money's worth in accommodations and service. I have always believed in the adage "you get what you pay for." When we were deciding on where to spend our vacation this time, we came across the website of Huma Island. It promised a luxury experience in accommodation and food in a beautiful environment. We had been at the Lagen resort in Palawan which had the water villa type of accommodation which really attracted us to the same type of villa in Huma. What really attracted me was the outdoor private jacuzzi. I pictured myself sitting in the jacuzzi all day drinking beers and looking at beautiful scenery. The official YouTube video really showed the luxury aspects of the resort including many high end dining opportunities and activities that we were interested in like jet skiing and riding on a banana boat. I was sold after seeing that YouTube video and very excited about going to Huma Island. When we investigated further, not surprisingly, it was very expensive but similar to other high end resorts we have gone to. Because it was expensive, our expectations we very high. Enough of the background, let us get to the actual vacation.
Our day started off poorly when Philippine Airlines tried to bump us from our flight. Thankfully my wife put up a big fight and got us back on the flight. Unfortunately, it turn out to be a bad omen for things to come. Getting to where we need to take a boat was fairly seamless, but the boat ride was our first indication that our high expectations were not going to be met. Our boat was a very low end bangca type boat and the likelihood we were going to get soaked was pretty high. Sure enough, my shoes got wet and if I knew this, I would have prepared. But I wasn't going to let this minor thing get in the way of my excitement especially as we were approaching the island which looked beautiful from afar. When we arrived, we received a warm greeting from the staff. We were driven to our villa and the driver gave us a quick tour of the resort. When we arrived at our villa, I was very happy with what I saw. I was excited to jump right into the jacuzzi and crack open a cold beer. We had an all inclusive package and assumed all drinks would be included. However, the driver told us that you had to pay extra for drinks in the mini bar fridge. The prices for these drinks were expensive. He also mentioned that if we wanted to use the jacuzzi, we need to get their engineering staff to set it up first. I thought this was strange but it was now close to lunch time and we decided to have lunch while the jacuzzi was set up. Lunch was served in the Waves restaurant. It was buffet style. The cooked food did not look that great but we were hungry and I took a little bit of everything. We sat down at the table and someone gave us a box of facial tissues. I found this strange as well but soon realized there were no napkins and the tissue were to be used instead. Using tissues as napkins was the first major red flag that our expectations were not going to be met. I then realized that the food temperature was barely lukewarm almost cold. I ate it anyway and it tasted ok. I check the buffet area and the food was being "warmed" with the usual candles but obviously not properly and not checked. There was no staff to complain to as well. We went back to our room. I went to the jacuzzi and it looked to me to be off. I tried to turn on and could not. After calling to have someone turn it on, finally someone came by and fiddled around with it. We were told there were two modes. Jets on and no heat or jets off and heat on? What kind of jacuzzi is this? I chose jets on. I went to have a shower before using the jacuzzi and cracked open a beer from the fridge. The beer was warm! I noticed there was no way to adjust the fridge. I went to the jacuzzi and the jets were off. I tried to turn them back on and nothing worked. We called engineering back and they got the jets going again. I jumped in and drank my warm beer. I was happy and sat there for about 30 minutes enjoying the beautiful views. It was becoming apparent that the water level was dropping to a point where it practically emptied. We called engineering again. They filled it up and I jumped back in. The water level was getting higher and higher. I jumped out and noticed someone was looking at me from inside my room. I told him about the water level rising to almost overflowing and he fiddled with the jacuzzi. I jumped in the jacuzzi again and after a while I started to get abdominal cramps and need to use the toilet. I had diarrhea which was about 4 hours eating lunch. Could this be travellers diarrhea? It was getting close to dinner. We decided to go to the Harbour restaurant. On our way there, we didn't notice any other guests. The place looked like we were the only people there. When we got to the restaurant, it was very nice and appeared to be high end. However, we got the box of tissues again instead of napkins. However the service was good and more importantly the food was delicious. A highlight was a singer and guitarist came by and romantically entertained us. Near the end of the meal, I noticed the abdominal cramps occur again and I needed a toilet. The staff directed me to the men's bathroom. After another embarrassing bout of diarrhea, I went to flush and realized it didn't work and it appeared to me it hadn't worked in days. After washing my hands, I realized there was nothing to dry with. No paper dispensers on the wall, no hand towel, no nothing. I couldn't believe it and I left the restaurant totally embarrassed and stressed. After getting back to the villa, I had to use the toilet again and after flushing the toilet overflowed. You can imagine how I felt after our first day. Instead of feeling relaxed, happy, and positive, I was stressed, angry, embarrassed, and negative.
We complained the next day and things did improve but there still many more examples which suggest this resort is poorly managed. They changed our villa because of the jacuzzi problems, but the jacuzzi still did not heat up. This tells me that probably none of the jacuzzis work properly. Also, the mini bar fridge in the new villa did not provide cold beer. Some of the staff were not trained properly in service or did not know how to make the drinks on the menu. One time, I was offered champagne after my meal and it was completely flat. This is proof that the staff is not trained and management is incompetent. Each room has a Nespresso machine but when it was restocked, there were only decaf pods available. When we complained, we were told they ran out of caffeine pods. We ran out of toilet paper one time. They didn't have a "do not disturb" door knob tag so we constantly had people knocking uninvited on our door. There was no booklet in the room explaining the resort, the available activities, room service menu, etc. Speaking of activities, many were not available or cost extra. Each day, we had no choice but to have our meals at the Blu bar. This bar is open air and after a while we got tired a shoeing away the flies off our food. Only one restaurant was open for supper and meal options were limited. On our last day, we were told all drinks were free with the all inclusive package even in the mini bar which contradicts information we were given on the first day. At the Blu bar, we observed management smoking cigarettes and we could smell the tobacco smoke. All these complaints are basic no brainers in hospitality. It is proof that staff is poorly trained and management is incompetent.
I must state there were some positive things as well. The spa is great and the therapists appear well trained. Despite getting me sick on the first day, the food was pretty good and portion size was satisfactory. Despite some of the staff being poorly trained, you can tell they were trying their hardest to make up for the shortcomings of this resort. I am giving this resort an extra star rating because of this. The nightly entertainment was enjoyable and fun. I am not blaming the staff at all. All of this is a result of piss poor management!
I feel like I was ripped off. If I payed half of what we paid to stay in this resort, I probably would not have written this review. The ownership should be ashamed of themselves for defrauding us. Like many of your guests, I worked hard for my money and you greedily stole it from me. You obviously have money to burn and I can tell by how little guests you have, you are burning and will soon sink with all the negative reviews you are getting. I only wish I read these reviews before I got sucked in by your slick marketing practices. Worst than stealing my money, you stole my time!
Sorry for the length of this review, but hopefully by reading this, you will not go to this resort. By writing it and sharing it as widely as I can, I certainly feel better and it gives me a little payback.
