My friend and I have just returned from a week at Kilbride Cottage, Shannochie. We have stayed in many self-catering cottages in Scotland and this has certainly been the best in its price range. What we really appreciated were all the personal touches - a warm and friendly greeting from Christine, a welcome tray ready for us, milk in the fridge, and everything spotlessly clean and comfortable. The cottage is traditional in style, which is part of its charm, but has modernity where you need it, and we had many very happy suppers watching the sun go down from the west-facing window in the big, roomy kitchen/diner. Another great point is that electricity was included in the (very reasonable) weekly rent, so we could make the most of the efficient heating system and have a cosy place to come back to. Both bedrooms were very pleasant, and although the house is situated by a roadside, there is very little traffic, and the cottage walls are so thick as to make it almost inaudible anyway. Kilbride is an ideal base for touring the stunning beaches of Kildonan and Blackwaterfoot, as well as being within easy distance of Arran's main towns and villages. We really had an unforgettable week and would recommend the cottage to anyone. Many thanks to Christine for taking such good care to ensure we had a great stay.

A friend and I and our two dogs stayed at Kilbride Cottage for a week. Cottage was clean, cosy, comfortable and well appointed. Great enclosed garden for the dogs. Only down side was cottage is located on main road heading south on the island and parking was outside the cottage garden perimeter which proved tricky getting the dogs out and in the car. Although the cottage was extremely clean, the twin bedroom carpet smelled badly of damp.
