If you love history, and beauty, and tranquility, and a really special place, Graemeshall House is for you. You cannot get more authentic than staying in this beautiful old manor house, with its great old rooms and wonderful ancient library (open for you to browse and enjoy). Part of its charm is that it is in a very tranquil, remote spot, far enough away from the town life, yet walking distance from one of the highlights of the island: the Italian Chapel. It is the best of both worlds. You are just a taxi ride away from anywhere you want to go, but when you want to enjoy the magic of the island, the house and garden give this like no other place could. John and his family have put their heart and soul into restoring and maintaining this important and historical property, and it is a privilege to stay here. He will cook a wonderful breakfast for you, which you will eat in the elegant old dining room, and all around you you can almost hear the voices of the Lairds of old. Orkney is an enchanting place, and this is the best of it!

When we drove up to Graemeshall I knew it was going to exceed our expectations! John warmly greeted us at the door & gave us the story of how he & his wife came to be owners of the amazing property & a history of the home. He then showed us to our room & I almost cried with delight - the room and en suite was so spacious, beautifully appointed, great attention to detail, sparkling clean. There was even had a box of fine chocolates and a handwritten note congratulating us on our 25th Anniversary!

Beautiful setting. Amazing history of the home. Outstanding service. Comfortable, spacious room. Peaceful. Delicious, plentiful breakfast served in the loveliest of dining room.

Room tip: Try for the room that the Queen Mum herself stayed in back in the 50s. It's amazing!

Graemeshall is the best B&B I think we have ever stayed in. Gorgeous house with enormous rooms & enormous bed!Very well appointed, excellent attentive hosts, freshly cooked breakfast. Located a stone’s throw from the Italian Chapel in quiet leafy grounds. Will definitely be back.

Stayed 7 nights. A superb restoration of a grand historic Scottish home. Very comfortable rooms with many amenities. Expertly prepared, generous breakfasts. Host is very willing to assist in restaurant reservations and other details. Made our visit to Orkney a treasured memory.
