Fantastic small hotel, 27 miles from Lerwick, the main town of Shetland and two miles from the nearest village on the edge of a beautiful loch. It has only a handful of rooms - we stayed in a massive family room with large double bed and two singles, as well as sitting area and large bathroom. From the windows we could see out over the loch in one direction and watch shetland ponies and rabbits on the other side. We were not lucky enough to see the local otters, however, but other guests assured us they can be spotted from the dining room occasionally!

The food is excellent and mainly locally sourced - the owner is a chef and cooks it all himself. With only five or so rooms, don't expect an extensive menu: but the chef will discuss the options with you each day and tailor meals to your party - I travelled with children and he was very accommodating of their foibles.

We stayed for three nights and I could not fault the service we received. The cost was £70 per night per adult for dinner, bed and breakfast - children half price. I stayed in several hotels around this price range this summer and this was by far the best experience.
