If you are looking at Hotels in this area stop now, you've found the place! Sao is an old farmhouse that has been converted with love into a modern and ultra chic experience. The rooms are great with lots of space, amazing views and simplicity in their modern design. Take a look at the website photos to get an idea. And they are equally as impressive in reality. But, most importantly the owners and service is second to none. Very personable and friendly, it was actually like visiting old friends in the Pyrenees. Plus the food! The list goes on, but the food is outstanding as is the breakfast and really the dining settings compliments the love and attention to detail that has gone into creating an 'experience,' not just a place to stay. I couldn't recommend it more highly. Stuart

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view, its spectacular!

Exquisite food, surroundings, facilities and hospitality. What more could you want?

The hotel itself is quirky - lot's of jazz posters and memorabilia in the bar area. It must have been an old stone house which has been renovated very sympathetically - lots of exposed stone, combined with modern elements like sweeping expanses of glass that offer views over the mountains and valley.

Rooms are very comfortable - we stayed in the suite. Huge walk-in shower with a rain-shower head, extremely soft bed linen and pillows - and lovely little touches like the bedside tables made from raw wood, and the turn-down service with biscuits before bed.

Esther is a fantastic host - you can tell that the hotel the running of the accommodations and restaurant is a real labour of love. We dined in the restaurant on both nights and were blown away by the food - from the starters and amuse-bouche to the mains (all seasonal - we particularly enjoyed the 8-hour slow cooked mountain lamb and veal cheek) through to desserts.

Top tip - make the most of the surroundings and allocate one morning for a hike up the mountains. There's a fairly taxing mountain trail that starts right in the village of Bescaran itself (and is pretty well signposted) that offers stunning views and a real sense of getting-away-from-it-all. To help your muscles recover, the nearby natural hot springs at Sant-Vincenc (about a 25 minute drive away from Sao) offer an indoor and outdoor thermal course with several complementary treatments being offered. Not a true "spa" experience in the western sense of the word in that it is a bit rough around the edges - but the properties of the water (sulphurated - so not the most fragrant) are unbelievably therapeutic; particularly for chronic conditions of the respiratory tract as well as inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis.

Sao' Hotel Bescaran is a very special place - we will definitely be back, hopefully for longer than 2 nights.

Room Tip: We stayed in the suite - beautifully finished, great mountain views.

A great place high in the Pyrenees. Has the feel of away from everything with creature comforts. The room was great and the meals super. The hosts were very accommodating. It's well work the drive up the windy road but suggest you plan to do it in day light.

Wow. This small hotel, high up in the mountains, is a specular jewel. The food, hospitality and accommodations are wonderful. The twisting, narrow mountain road you drive to get there is an adventure (not to be done at night, as we did for a dark terrifying experience.) nearby walks in the mountains are peaceful and lovely, the rooms are modern and comfortable and the food -- oh the food! A visit here is a highlight of a Pyranees trip. Not to be missed.

I can not recommend this hotel highly enough. Mountain views were wonderful and you really had a feeling like you've escaped hectic city life. Hotel was beautifully renovated and hosts most welcoming. Food was also amazing, we had dinner there twice and both times food was just superb. We had a most relaxing stay there!
