“Nice, quiet location and fantastic people!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2011

My friends and I stayed at the Discovery Divers Resort in Coron, Palawan for 2 nights last October and we were very happy with our choice to stay here. Upon arrival at the port in Coron town, we were greeted by Glenda who was there to see us onto the boat that would take us to the island. She was very welcoming and gave us an idea of how the resort would be. Taking the 5-10 minute boat ride to the island was a definite highlight as we sailed off at around sunset. The views were amazing and as we drifted away from the hustle & bustle of the town, we were happy to realize that we had picked a nice, quiet place to stay at. When we arrived on the island, we were warmly greeted by Venus and some cute dogs. (Both were very friendly :D) We got complimentary drinks at their restaurant first and then we were shown our room. The first place that they offered us was quite a hike from the restaurant and the path leading to it was not very well lit so they offered to show us another room closer down to the dock and the restaurant which was great. The rooms were comfortable enough ( we chose one with just a fan) but be warned that there is no hot water in the shower. Also, just know that each time you take their boat to town you have to pay 100PHP per person. Other than that, we loved many things about Discovery: the morning view from the balcony (see pics); the day tour they arranged for us - our guides, Norman & Roman were very helpful; breakfast there was pretty good too. But for my friends and I, the best thing about the place was the quiet and the niceness of the people there.

Room Tip: If you are not up for a little hiking, then ask for a room near the dock/restaurant.

Have been there in november 2011 for 2 nights.
After few days we stood in coron city, we decided to escape to Discovery Divers resort...quiet and hidden place on a small island, home feelin atmosphere, very friendly staff, good choice of foods at affordable prices. Very good spot if you wanna run away from the noisy and awefull coron city !!
The rooms are spacious, clean, the beds are confortables !
The resort can arrange island hoping tours as well as scuba diving trips. The dive masters/instructor are very professional and friendly !!

Highly recommended !!

The staff assigned to greet us by the boat was very friendly - she was a hint of what will be ahead of us once we arrive at the resort. Everybody was so nice - the owner, the bar tenders, the boatmen, the carpenters, even the doggies were always playful and welcoming!

Refreshing welcome drinks will soothe a hot afternoon! We sipped our drinks by the walkway in the shore - a la "Dawson's Creek". The view was perfectly serene :)

The room we stayed in was in the new building, we were on the second floor. We only chose a fan room, which sufficed. I stayed with my three friends, and the rotating fan was just right during cool nights.

Boat trips to the main island and to the other islands can easily be arranged the day before tours.

My friends and I highly commend Venus, the front desk attendant, and boatmen, Ramon and Norman (something like that, they're cousins) :))))

If you are travelling to Coron then I am assuming you are doing so because of a genuine interest in marvelling at natural, ecological beauty and diversity and in experiencing and being immersed in an authentic, local culture and way of life (not sitting in 5 star, air-conditioned resorts expecting 24hr room service, top notch restaurants and partying all night with hoards of tourists - if that's you're scene then perhaps head to Boracay!). In which case, we found Discovery Divers to be a wonderful experience - the accommodation was charming, the service extremely pleasant and without having anything concretely pre-planned, the resort made it extremely easy to arrange day trips and give advice/help facilitate the best activities and places to visit.

Description of the area: We flew into Busuanga - arranged transfers with the hotel and were met at the Airport by a mini van - from there it was a 30 minute trip to the main town, Coron and the wharf where a boat (owned by the resort) then transported us to the accommodation. The resort is the only feature on a small, private island called Decanituan and is a ten minute boat ride from Coron town/wharf. This 'water taxi' is available virtually at any hour (with prior notice) to arrange transportation from the resort, to and from Coron town, starting from 100 pesos. As mentioned before the resort is not a beachfront resort - but as we spent most of our days out and about visiting islands and lagoons this wasn't a concern.

Description of the resort facilities. The bar area is a lovely open space - casual couches and tables for dining. It is quite cool, capturing a breeze from all sides. The villas are elevated on a slight hill behind the bar - with a view across the water. Quaint thatched, bamboo huts with tile floors and wood furnishings - basic but with a definite charm and all that you really need! Clean, tidy, functional - front verandahs come complete with a hummock. The only complaint would be that the pillows were extremely hard and quite uncomfortable - as we had our travel pillows however we simply used those! The menu is quite diverse and offers a good range - but you are always welcome to venture further afield into Coron town to try different places! Be forewarned however - we had to wait almost 2 hours for our meal, and due to difficulties with the area experiencing seasonal brown-outs (ie no electricity available for parts of each day), many menu items often aren't available. I do believe the resort owners sought to address this problem however on our last night there, and have a menu from one of the popular Coron Restaurants, La Sireneta now held at the resort so guests can browse, then phone and pre-order their meals... :)

As the previous reviews attest, there is a genuine effort on behalf of the resort owners (Alan and 'Little Mama') to individually meet and get to know their guests, you can sit there and chat to them both on any number of occasions about any number of topics. The hospitality is faultless, right down to the resident dogs! Riza (apologies for the spelling!) who worked in the Bar/restaurant area was a tiny, Filipino delight - always smiling and helpful! The resort hired out their boats for private trips to visit the attractions around Coron Island and further afield - the boys who manned the boats on these trips were also quietly spoken but absolutely lovely - Leito and Randy (again, sorry for any misspelling!). We didn't dive ourselves, but did have the pleasure of meeting the dive crew at the bar - an eclectic, fun bunch!

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our time in this beautiful part of Palawan, and Discovery Divers played a significant part of contributing to that enjoyment. Thanks and hope to see you again!

The stay in this hotel was a fantastic experience! Here's a summary of my experience:

Hotel premises:
~ located on a small island 5-10 minutes from town
~ quiet and calm
~ nipa huts are basic but you are in zero distance from the nature
~ no beach, no pool, but who needs that after all the wonderful snorgelling and divings?

Food:
~ very tasty, great variety
~ lunchbox can be prepared for day trips. We asked for fresh catches of the day for our day trip lunch and we have that grilled on the beach!
~ the restaurant is a good place to grap a drink and relax after day trips

Staffs:
~ Lisa, the customer relationship manager, is sooooooooooo nice and welcoming. She is always smiling, providing good sight-seeing suggestion (not suggesting you to over charged places, but the real fun places).
~ tourguide TJ was knowledgeable about the place
~ other staffs and boatmen were helpful too!

Tours:
~ great island hopping and diving tours
~ Lisa helped putting us into other groups so that we can share cost and FUN!
~ wreck diving is a must! The Swiss dive master was experienced but not really paying great efforts to tour you around underwater. But his Filippina girlfriend was helpful. She kept pointing to creatures and made us see them.

You won't want to leave this little island after your stay!

About 5 to 10 min away from Coron by boat we were really relieved to find this place. Indeed, Coron is awfully noisy and busy.So we could stay in this quiet place and went anyway easely to Coron whenever we wanted (each evening).
The resort is clean, the rooms are nice, with space, air-con and a fan. If you're not using the air-con the price can be a lot cheaper. And there's no hot water for the shower.
The staff is nice and can organised your divings and visits to the islands around so the boat pick you up at the resort, which is nice.
The only thing is there's no beach...no sand but the mangrove. Anyway in Coron the only way to swim and spend the afternoon on the beach is to take a boat...

The accom is fine.
The associated dive school is VERY professional. Food is fine. Staff very friendly and helpful. Resident guide, TJ, is full of it, but also friendly and provides good entertainment.
The fresh water lakes nearby are a must.
The real reason to stay is for the wreck diving, be sure to take at least one day, it's an incredible experience.
The resort is not so close to the town, but you won't miss much.
