Sophia's Garden Resort

This small guest house accommodation was just delightful. Set amongst a beautiful and meticulously nurtured garden surrounding the hotel truly lives up to its name. The hotel staff are amongst the most welcoming hospitable people on the planet, with utter care for their guests. They smile, they make great suggestions and they anticipate your needs. The pool within the gardens is perfect for those hot days, especially if you've been out touring the island. The food is delicious and includes local and international choices, all cooked with love and to your dietary needs. The rooms are clean, with good air conditioning, hot and cold water and toilets all with flush. Overall, this was a real gem find. Filipino hospitality at its best.
Coron (Busuanga island) needs to be explored and we neglected to give it the proper time. (We'll come back) Sophia's is just a short 5 minute ride on a "tricycle" (motorised) to a bustling small town with good atmosphere, bars, restaurants, a local market and plenty of locals to integrate with.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same, and all beautifully presented.

We stayed at Sophia's Garden Resort for 3 nights 2 weeks ago and loved every minute of it. The grounds are lovely and well kept, the location of the hotel is perfect, very relaxing and about 10 minutes outside of the town, so you can escape the business.

The room had everything we needed for a short stay and was very clean. The facilities were great, lovely pool, nice seating areas for meals, and a hot tub!! we had breakfast, lunch and evening meal at the hotel and the food was lovely. They serve great pasta dishes, especially the Carbonara, which my partner ordered several times over.

The most amazing part of the resort has to be the staff. They went out of there way to make sure our stay was perfect, always attentive to our needs and checking if there was anything they could do better to make our stay better. We would like to say a special thank you to Charmaine and Vincent, who were very friendly and lovely to chat to.

Thank you for a perfect stay, we will highly recommend you to all of our friends and family.

All i can say is WOW.
The staff really go above and beyond to ensure that you have a safe and pleasant stay with them. The location is great, out of the town centre but still easy to get to on a tricycle. We visited 4 weeks after the typhoon and there wasn't much damage. The buildings where still beautiful and the outdoor setting was not affected. The rooms are clean and spacious. There are only a few bungalows which is perfect. I am worried as they said they are building more apartments on the ground. I worry as the outside facilities are not large enough for this growth. People come to Sophias to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle. Lets hope their future plans don't destroy the serenity of this place.

Customer service was extraordinary- before and during our stay. The staff were very polite and very attentive but not intrusive. The resort only has 8 bungalows, which is great as it gives the service a more personalised feel. The whole resort is beautifully decorated, from the rooms to the gardens. The restaurant food was delicious and all reasonably priced, a lot cheaper than I expected. Everything about this resort has a feel of a five star/high-end resort but at a more affordable price. This is definitely the place to stay in Coron. If i'm every back there, I'm sure to book here again. Thank you for making my first time in Coron very memorable.

Coron is a poor busy village. We were therefore very thankful that the reviews in Tripadvisor guided us to Sophias Garden Resort. A nice low key resort, with a very friendly management and staff, nice swimming pool, clean rooms and tasty food. A great choice. The resort is 10-15 minutes outside Coron. It is close to the ocean but you cannot really swim there.

Stayed for 3 nights at this hotel last December 2013 and all I can say that our stay was awesome. It was beyond our expectations. The property was well-maintained and so their garden. Staffs were polite and friendly but not intrusive. Service is at par with high end resort, but their rate is very affordable.

Food is good, serving is enough but nothing spectacular. I loved the preparations they made in our romantic gazebo dinner.

Cons would be that nothing much to do in the hotel. They have a pool and have on call massage. For any activity, it is still better to go to town

This truly is the BEST place to stay in Coron.

Was in contact with them shortly after I confirmed my flight. At first, I was hesitant because their package was a bit pricey compared to other hotels/resorts in Coron. Other options had much lower prices compared to Sophia. But I chose their package for two people 3D2N in their deluxe room with Coron Tour Package and Coron Island package with daily breakfast, use of pool among other superb amenities (with roundtrip airport transfers for two, at only 6,199 Php per pax all in. REALLY WORTH IT, I tell you.) because of the reviews here in Tripadvisor.

Kudos to their reservation staff for the most prompt responses to my email. May it be 1 AM or 6 AM in the morning or 11 PM at night. I would always receive a reply to my email in the most courteous way too. All my questions would always be answered in their email.

Arrived Nov 3rd in the resort. Airport was small and homey, felt great nonetheless. There were 4 of us in the van, which was waiting for us outside the airport. It was a 30 (? or less) minute land trip to Sophia's. Beautiful fields everywhere.

Loved the welcome drink, we were immediately accommodated once inside. Everybody who worked at Sophia's was so nice and courteous, with their smiling faces. Once inside the room, you will immediately feel relaxed with the aroma of Jasmine. The bed and linens were sparkling white. TV worked well. Complimentary water was ready too. Everything in the bathroom worked well. Towels were clean. So far so good!

Once outside since we were hungry from the trip, we ate at their restaurant. Tried their Sizzling Gambas which was gooooood. Their Tanigue was even BETTER!!! One of their staff even suggested options like if we wanted to eat outside, by the garden or by the pool!

We also walked to the other end of Sophia's were it's said that they will be constructing a new wing of their resort. It's a dock, (picture posted here too) where you see the beautiful ocean surrounding the area. Beautiful. The view is to die for.

Had the town tour in the afternoon, went to the town proper, then climbed the 724 steps up Mount Tapyas, the sunset was divine. Although tiring, every step was worth it. (Note to travellers, bring Water if you easily are the type to get thirsty!) Then another 724 steps going down the mountain. By this time, your legs will be kind of shaking in sync with your knees. (So actually there are 1548 steps if you add the going up and down part haha). We were taken to Maquinit Hot Springs after, perfect place to relax after the tiring steps of Mount Tapyas.

After day one, tried their pool and jacuzzi to unwind. There weren't much guests around so it's peace and quiet. The temperature was perfect. And to my surprise, there wasn't a time limit with swimming in the pool as long as the lifeguard was informed. Such kind staff!

And as if I thought there was no more surprises left, one of them approached us and asked us what we wanted for breakfast the next day. Talk about going the extra mile and superb service. Even asked us again where we wanted to have our breakfast. Everything you need, they will help you with it. Chose the Beef Tapa (delicious!) and the Spanish Omelette. Complete meal with fruits as well. Nothing more you can ask. Perfect breakfast!

We had the island tour the following day and everything was breathtaking. From the twin lagoons, beaches and everything. Make sure you have waterproof gear for this. If you have a shockproof and water proof cam (underwater cam), you won't regret bringing it with you. Everything you see is worth taking a shot. From the boat, beach, underwater marvels of nature. The lunch that comes with it is so sumptuous as well.

After the tour, we decided to eat dinner at Santinos'. Everybody talks about it. The only con is that because there are so many people, service is around 30-45 minutes, an hour max. But everything is worth the wait. The RIBS are heavenly, I tell you. MUST Try.

Definitely going back here soon. Typhoon Yolanda came as we were about to board our plane, it was literally zero visibility in Busuanga airport last Nov 5th, very scary weather condition to fly to. Flight was delayed by 2 hours because of it. Thankfully, we got back in Manila safe and sound.

Thank you to everyone in Sophia's for the most pleasurable stay we've ever had. Your service is more than 5 stars itself. Thank you Ms. Teresa, Joy, Jheda, and Alex. Reviews do not exaggerate. Everything in this resort is first class. Sophia's Garden Resort truly is the BEST place to stay in Coron.

-Nina
