“A total treat in Pittenweem ”

We're just back from another amazing break at Puffin Hollow. It is such a comfortable place to stay and makes a great base for exploring the East Neuk, whether by car or on foot. The fabulous weather certainly helped and encouraged us to visit several beautiful beaches. We also enjoyed trying out new restaurants and going back to some old favourites. And it is so easy to eat in with such a well appointed kitchen to hand. This place is a total treat!

Lovely cottage situated on the harbour side, directly across from the Fish Market. Quirky but modern decor, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Highly recommended.

A cosy and comfortable cottage with everything required for a relaxing holiday. Convenient for a good variety of local shops and close to other villages. Convenient for the lovely coastal walks. The three of us had an excellent holiday.

Thank you Helen and Donald for both reviewing and choosing our cottage for your break. It is good to hear that it offered both relaxation and comfort as those are the things that help make a holiday. Puffin Hollow is perfectly situated for the coastal walks that yous all seem to have made the most of. Please return again in the future.

“Charming property”
Reviewed 11 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

From the outside, this is a very typical fisherman's cottage. It is located opposite the fish market - Pittenweem is still a working port, and so there is no view or outside space. Parking was easy, and we always found a spac just outside the cottage.
Inside, it has been beautifully done up. It's quite dark in the living/ kitchen area and bedroom as there is only one window at the front, but the decor is bright and cheerful with a prevailing nautical theme and it is exceptionally cleverly lit.
There is a roof window in the bathroom, and that is bright and cheerful. Great shower, but is you are disabled, be aware, as you have to get into the bath.
The bed is lovely and comfortable, with high quality bedding.
Pittenweem is a great little place and a super place to stay. We had a lovely time in the cottage - even has good wifi.
Also be aware - there is no phone reception at all, so be prepared for that.

Margaret, i greatly appreciate your comments and i am happy that you enjoyed your stay in Puffin Hollow. Yes it is very typical of a lot of places in East Neuk that mobile coverage is poor, but i am lucky that i manage to get a signal in the hall. As you have pointed out Pittenweem really is a magical place to stay.
Thanks

“Weekend break at Puffin Hollow”
Reviewed 1 May 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We had a lovely relaxing break in Pittenweem at Puffin Hollow. The apartment was clean, modern and very comfortable. On opening the doors it smelled really good and fresh. It had everything we needed and proved to be in a fab location. We went north to St Andrews one day and another we spent in Elie. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for break on the east coast.

“'Chilled out'....literally!”

We have been regular visitors to the East Neuk for many years and thoroughly enjoy everything the area has to offer: spectacular views, lots of places to visit and good food.
This was the first time we booked Puffin Hollow. We intended staying for six nights. While it is a nice enough apartment it was apparent when we arrived that there was no heating. Shortly after arriving on the Saturday, a handyman arrived to check the boiler pressure.
He told us that he had been contacted by the absentee owner as she had remotely noticed a drop in pressure and temperature. The man left affter assuring us that there was no problem. This was not the case.....following many, many email and phone conversations with the owner advising me to try this and check that the problem had not been addressed. Eventually on the following Wednesday, a plumber was contacted but he could not come until the day we should have been leaving. The handyman never put in another appearance. We did move the only electric convection heater about the main apartment in order to have some heat but the bathroom and utility area were VERY, VERY COLD.
We felt we had given the owner more than enough opportunity to rectify the problem so decided to cut short our stay and leave a day early and it was only then that the owner said she could provide additional heating for the bathroom. We had left by then.
We feel this situation could have been avoided had more robust and immediate procedures been in place to deal with such situations by the absentee owner.
The owner offered a "goodwill refund of £50 but as the rental cost £425 we don't feel this is particularly generous given the circumstances.

Celia,
I am sorry you felt the need to react to your stay in Puffin Hollow in this way. As previously mentioned to you ( see below) it was not until Tuesday that I was made aware of the full extent of the heating issue. Your correspondence seemed to indicate that the problem was only with the chrome radiator in the bathroom and you confirmed that the hot water was working fine. There is a large convector heater in the bedroom. I checked my Smart meter and the room thermostat showed readings of 24 degrees most evenings. As the apartment is open plan then the bathroom should have benefited from this heat. I also advised that you could to leave the convector heater on constantly.
My response to Celia
I have looked through the email correspondence below and in my defence it was not until Tuesday after you called me that I was made aware that there was no heating from the skirting radiators. You only mentioned the chrome radiator in the bathroom initially, so I was under the impression that was the only problem and that the skirting heating was working as normal. Once I realised this on the Tuesday I said I would get a plumber in to fix it, so I have to disagree with you that I knew there was no heating and waited 5 days. I acted the following day but he was not free for the next 48hrs and I was more than happy for you to leave the convector heater on. I am truly sorry that through a lack of understanding and the situation was not resolved sooner. You did experience a colder bathroom and that is why I offered you a payment of £50. I can only apologise again and I have taken on board your remarks and will endeavour to put a more robust system in place.

We really enjoyed a few days away in Pittenweem, staying in Puffin Hollow. The location is great- easy access for coastal walks.
Cottage has everything that you would need for a great break, comfortable bed, great shower
Enjoyed the walks to St Monan's and Anstruther and also the visit to St Andrews.
Had an interesting trip to Isle of May and did manage to see a few puffins and plenty of grey seals.
This is our second visit to Pittenweem and we would definitely love to come back again.
