“Nice staff - good food - nice little village”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014

Our last night of a coach holiday. Yes it is basic but OK. Sheets and towels clean with hot water. Dinner plentiful and breakfast was very varied, fresh and good.

Staff very hospitable and very willing to assist if required.

Will return to this small village. Off the beaten track

Room Tip: I think they were all much the same. A little tired and needs refurbishment but please read my revie...

For 90 Euro for a triple room plus breakfast at 9 Euro, this was quite an acceptable night's stay in a lovely village close to the ports. The receptionist was attentive and friendly and politely accepted our very poor French. The room was basic and the toilet door would not close properly, however, everything was clean and apparently recently decorated. The restaurant was closed Sunday evening but a convenient Spar shop round the corner provided a picnic of cheese, meat and bread. Breakfast was a simple, continental affair with plenty of choice. We would use the hotel again.

I often come to Gravellines for business and this is the only hotel open 12/12 but rooms are small, old, many times not very clean and the place is noisy. Personnel can't often understand english! Here it's a matter of luck...better drive 20 minutes more and reach Dunkerque

Tried the Beffroi as a change from Calais. Put simply, it is a small pleasant town- square hotel. Websites offer room-only rates leaving you to pay 9euros for the breakfast...eat well. Parking in the town is a challenge...pay everywhere with a free hour depending on zone. We walked the wall around the town, looked round the Friday country market in the town square, scouted the quays and restaurants on the nearby coast, but then found the TA recommended restaurant La Symphonie just around the corner. Wise move! No need to go back...done it.

I recently took a large group of cyclists to this hotel for lunch and all of us were delighted. The 20 euro buffet menu was terrific value. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Despite the long delay in getting the square sorted, Gravelines is a super little town close to the ferry at Calais.

We needed a place to stay at the last minute and were sent here from Calais. Coming in as the second to last booking of the night we were met by very friendly staff and upgraded to a double room without needing to ask. The food was good, the bed comfy and the walls thicker than some of the places we've stayed in before! All in all we thought it was very good value.
The surroundings are gorgeous and we want to come back to do some exploring next time.

I agree with other reviewers regarding the pleasant location of this hotel, and the town itself, but our experience wasn't quite so positive.

The girl at reception was friendly enough, but otherwise the atmosphere in the bar/reception downstairs was not welcoming. There was a scattering of locals in, each apparently siting at a table on his own, some of them seriously drunk. The quiet ones just gave hostile looks everytime we walked in. The louder ones would shout something -- not sure what it was, and not sure if it was directed at us -- but it was uncomfortable with two small children in tow.

The other problem was the smell of sewage drains in the room. This was apparently due to the building works in square outside, so may just be a temporary problem.

All in all, it was OK -- not a complete disaster for the price we paid -- but we will look for somewhere else next time around.
