“Enjoyed our stay in this ancestral home”

We stayed in the Sir John Leigh bedroom which overlooks the back lawn. This is the room that has what appears to be a red panelled bathroom with claw foot tub. The panelling is actually faux wallpaper made to look like panelling, which I think is very clever. They provide candles if you are in the mood for a romantic candlelit bath. We enjoyed the Billiards room which boasts a full size snooker table, but beware, in the cold months the room is very chilly as they keep the heat off in rooms not used frequently. The warmer months is when you will see the true beauty of this place because the garden areas look so lovely. We'd love to come back for the walks and watch any tennis matches that might be happening on the grass courts. The hosts are both avid tennis players as well. The only letdown was perhaps the breakfast as it was geared towards Full English so both mornings we kept to just eggs and toast being non meat eaters. It would be nice to be offered a selection like pancakes, vege sausages, oatmeal, or smoked salmon even. Perhaps it would be different if you arranged something with this B&B in advanced? There was the usual assortment of cornflakes, granola and muesli with plain yoghurt. No fresh fruit was available but Christine made some stewed rhubarb to go with it. She also makes her own homemade marmalade which is available on each table. Keep in mind if the self-catering cottage is booked with a large group, they will spill over into the main building as well. We found this to be the case when a group of writers stayed there as well. They seemed to all camp out in the lounge. We felt we were intruding everytime we had to make our way through the lounge which is located near the entrance and we never found it completely empty to enjoy for ourselves. The only other thing that was a negative was that the front door was unlocked when we arrived and no key was provided to lock our room. So we were very trusting to leave our valuables in the room whilst we were away for the entire day and out for dinner both nights. Again, we didn't ask for a key, so maybe they will provide with one if you ask.

We stayed here for my son's wedding in October and took the self catering wing and the b and b rooms. We loved it, I couldn't think of a better place to stay. We were able to entertain our friends and family from the self catered wing and they were able to enjoy bed and breakfast away from the wedding preparations. To be able to stay in such a beautiful house and to be made to feel so welcome by John and Christine really helped to make the wedding weekend such a memorable occaision.
I am looking forward to staying again when we will be able to explore a bit more of the local surroundings.

This is a brilliant and unique place to stay
The house, garden and hosts are top class and will not disappoint.
The garden is worthy of the National Trust , so do do ensure time to explore it

A real country house in the best tradition, with wood burning stoves, comfy beds, large rooms and a great breakfast
There are proper bathrooms with huge roll top baths in some rooms
There are a huge number of local walks and the one from / to the Needles is a must do at anytime of the year
Dinner at local pub ( 5 mins ) is up to the same standard, try the Fishermans pie and local Goddards ale

We stayed in the General Gordon Room which has a large bathroom with roll top bath and overlooks the paddock. The room was large and very comfortable. The house is so impressive and the grounds are vast and very well maintained (despite visiting in the winter). We took a long walk through the gardens and directly onto the downs. John and Christine looked after us very well and the location is great for a relaxing weekend break. The local pub, The Crown Inn also served a very tasty evening meal. Would definitely visit again. Thank you for your hospitality!

The North Court Manor is a beautiful Castle, set in a wonderful, peaceful garden. John and Christine will give you a very warm and personal welcome and will help you with walks and sightseeing. The unique garden is worth a trip. Its a perfect place to discover the Isle of Wight or just to relax.

Room Tip: We stayed at the Lady Gordon and the General Gordon rooms. Both are very big, comfortable and nicely...

We only had a few days away on holiday and knew that at this time of year we couldn't guarantee good weather on the Isle of Wight so I really wanted to stay somewhere interesting and comfortable and after checking the reviews on Trip Advisor took a chance on Northcourt Manor.

It was wonderful! The house is really old but John and Christine have been restoring it with care and attention and it is warm, clean and comfortable whilst retaining many period features and charm.

We stayed in the General Gordon room which was probably bigger than our entire flat!! The bed was huge and comfortable with a thick feather duvet, the arm chairs were cosy and there was room enough to do a cartwheel across the room if we had felt so inclined. The bathroom was equally spacious with a rolltop bath in the middle big enough for two which we of course tested and enjoyed after a day out walking!

A large part of the rest of the house is open for exploration with a billiard room full of old books, the music room where you can also play table tennis and a sitting room with a log burner and comfy sofas.

The garden is beautiful with lots of nooks and crannies to explore and at the other end is the local pub which produces really good quality meals. John and Christine are also more than happy to advise on local sights, walking routes and places to eat - where to go and where to avoid.

You can stay at cheaper B&Bs on the island but you can also spend a lot more and I'm not sure for the same money you will get anything like the quality of experience that you will get at Northcourt. I have already been recommending it to friends and will be going back again in the future I am sure.

Stayed for a few days, it is very peaceful and we liked :
The shutters for a dark room and good sleep
The beds were comfortable.
The gardens of 15 acres are beautiful.
The house is solid , and we slept well ,not disturbed by any of the other 8 guests
Shorewell is a good central location.
The pub just 3 minutes down the road was gre for ALL our dinners .
John and Christine are very Nice and helpful.
Breakfast is good
Minor dislikes :
Need your own computer to use the wifi.
Wasn't easy to find at first - need a better address for our gps which coud not find it -
it is not "main road" in Shorewell, is "Farrell way" .
We were still happy with our stay here and left most relaxed.
