“tranquil, splendid Garden & House”
Reviewed 10 August 2013 via mobile

We stayed 4 days at Northcourt Manor and enjoyed it very much. Northcourt Manor is surrounded with a huge garden with thousands of different plants, the 300 year old house is a historic gem. The rooms are spacious and all equipped with antique furniture. Don't expect to stay in a ordinary B&B, you'll stay in a palace! Consider it's not a 5 star accommodation, but it's a special experience to spend some days on this grand estate. John and Christine are giving there best to maintain Northcourt Manor, I hope we will come back here soon.

Our family group of 22 rented Northcourt Manor for the weekend to celebrate a Golden Wedding Anniversary. We had a fantastic time and everyone agreed that it was the best place we had stayed!

We were very lucky and had a lovely sunny weekend which meant we could take advantage of the excellent facilities outside, including the tennis court and wonderful gardens with plenty of different places to sit and enjoy the stunning grounds. The house itself was amazing, lovely large rooms, full of character and all bedrooms were en-suite and some even had lovely roll top baths! There was plenty to keep the group entertained, including table tennis and a snooker room.

John & Christine were wonderful hosts and we all said we would love to come back again!

We enjoyed three days B&B at this lovely country house. The rooms are beautiful, and John & Christine Harrison are helpful and kind hosts. The gardens are lovely, and breakfast is prepared with many home grown products, including Christine's jams and marmalade. We were there with two other couples, and enjoyed the use of the snooker room and table tennis. We will certainly be back!

This is a super property, run by very helpful and attentive owners, John and Christine. The Lady Gordon suite is like an apartment. The bedroom is very spacious with lovely views out to the garden. At night the window shutters keep all light at bay and you can sleep peacefully, unaware that dawn has broken. The lovely sitting room attached to the suite gives even more space to relax, and there is a good size bathroom complete with huge roll-top bath. We have stayed in many lovely hotels and this one ranks near the top of our list. It is amazingly good value for money; if you go the the IOW I would say it is a must to stay here. Breakfast is great; again John and Christine were there to attend to everything you needed. The homemade rhubard compote was a real suprise, not something I would have thought to eat for breakfast but gosh I will certainly do so again, it was very refreshing. Homemade jams, freshbaked bread, well cooked hot options all made for a super start to each day. The house has an enormous garden to wander around and enjoy. The local pub is just a few minutes walk through the garden and it serves great meals in the evening, good selection of real ales and wine at a reasonable price. The Northcourt Manor has to be one of the best places to stay in the IOW !

We stayed in the Sir John Leigh bedroom which overlooks the back lawn. This is the room that has what appears to be a red panelled bathroom with claw foot tub. The panelling is actually faux wallpaper made to look like panelling, which I think is very clever. They provide candles if you are in the mood for a romantic candlelit bath. We enjoyed the Billiards room which boasts a full size snooker table, but beware, in the cold months the room is very chilly as they keep the heat off in rooms not used frequently. The warmer months is when you will see the true beauty of this place because the garden areas look so lovely. We'd love to come back for the walks and watch any tennis matches that might be happening on the grass courts. The hosts are both avid tennis players as well. The only letdown was perhaps the breakfast as it was geared towards Full English so both mornings we kept to just eggs and toast being non meat eaters. It would be nice to be offered a selection like pancakes, vege sausages, oatmeal, or smoked salmon even. Perhaps it would be different if you arranged something with this B&B in advanced? There was the usual assortment of cornflakes, granola and muesli with plain yoghurt. No fresh fruit was available but Christine made some stewed rhubarb to go with it. She also makes her own homemade marmalade which is available on each table. Keep in mind if the self-catering cottage is booked with a large group, they will spill over into the main building as well. We found this to be the case when a group of writers stayed there as well. They seemed to all camp out in the lounge. We felt we were intruding everytime we had to make our way through the lounge which is located near the entrance and we never found it completely empty to enjoy for ourselves. The only other thing that was a negative was that the front door was unlocked when we arrived and no key was provided to lock our room. So we were very trusting to leave our valuables in the room whilst we were away for the entire day and out for dinner both nights. Again, we didn't ask for a key, so maybe they will provide with one if you ask.

We stayed here for my son's wedding in October and took the self catering wing and the b and b rooms. We loved it, I couldn't think of a better place to stay. We were able to entertain our friends and family from the self catered wing and they were able to enjoy bed and breakfast away from the wedding preparations. To be able to stay in such a beautiful house and to be made to feel so welcome by John and Christine really helped to make the wedding weekend such a memorable occaision.
I am looking forward to staying again when we will be able to explore a bit more of the local surroundings.

This is a brilliant and unique place to stay
The house, garden and hosts are top class and will not disappoint.
The garden is worthy of the National Trust , so do do ensure time to explore it

A real country house in the best tradition, with wood burning stoves, comfy beds, large rooms and a great breakfast
There are proper bathrooms with huge roll top baths in some rooms
There are a huge number of local walks and the one from / to the Needles is a must do at anytime of the year
Dinner at local pub ( 5 mins ) is up to the same standard, try the Fishermans pie and local Goddards ale
