While staying at Casa Portagioia a couple of guests recommended Pietro's for dinner in nearby Castiglion Fiorentino.
Pietro's is exactly what we imagine an authentic down to earth family run restaurant to be. First there is no English - on the menus or spoken by our waitress. But with a dictionary and a smile we manage to get by. This place is a buzz of activity with waitresses rushing here and there; and lots of relatively loud bantering.
The most popular order is clearly the pizza. Most every table had at least one. The vegetarian pizza my wife ordered with the traditional thin crust was tasty although a bit burnt. My Florentine steak was also very nicely done (I was worried I hadn't communicated 'medium-well' but somehow it arrived to my liking) although it seemed a bit pricey (20 euros) for the size - but I did very much enjoy it.
The bottle of wine for 6 euros was excellent, not only in quality but value.
If you are looking for a quiet romantic restaurant Pietro's is not the place, but if you are looking for a very good, down to earth, authentic meal absolutely you should try Pietro's.
