I can only concur with the reviews below. Idwal Cottage is a beauty! Fantastic location, excellent facilities, loved the quiet room for a chapter or two, good selection of local ales and friendly staff all made for a great overnight stay.....Walked straight up Y Garn from the path next to the hostel and even though we'd checked out Jeroen lent us the map to take with us and gave us the door key to drop it back off later.......We'll definitely be back.

Wonderful hospitality, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful wardens ( covering for regular wardens Jeroen and Saskia, whilst away on maternity leave, twins - congratulations ! ) A very good self catering facility, equipped and finished to the highest standards. Bedrooms, showers and toilets are also finished to a high standard the whole hostel is spotlessly clean and a credit to both users and the warden team. Anyone wanting to enjoy a few days activity break in central Snowdonia should look no further than Idwal Cottage, superbly located, once arrived and settled in you can leave the car in the secure hostel car park and simply start and finish your chosen activity from the hostel - for walking, scrambling, climbing or bike routes you are spoilt for choice.

...... Idwal sets the standard for others to follow - look as much as you like, but you won't finder a better hostel or more friendly, helpful and knowledgeable wardens - of course the downside to this review may well mean a full hostel when I want to return, but in the true spirit of hostelling it's too good news not to pass on.

I stayed here for 4 days, an exceptional hostel in an exceptional spot. The warden could not have been more helpful and this really made my stay.

Snowdonia is my closest mountainous region. I keep returning to Idwal Cottage for the location (walk from the door on the better/quieter side of Snowdonia) and the warm welcome. Over the years,we have come to know Saskia and Jeroen well and there is always a big smile when we enter. The hostel is one of the nicest I've stayed in and is great for groups of friends as well as families. We will continent to visit the hostel for years to come.

I've stayed at Idwal Cottage YH many times over the last 8 years and there are a number of reasons why I keep going back. It's great being able to leave the car in the car park for the weekend and walk from the front door - the hostel is an ideal starting point for many walking / scrambling / climbing routes. The hostel has good facilities and the rooms are well suited and sized for groups of friends / families. I've also stayed at the Idwal YH campsite - being able to use the YH facilities as a camper makes all the difference on those wet and windy evenings/mornings! The hostel is expertly managed by Saskia and Jeroen who are always welcoming, friendly and helpful. I'm sure I'll stay at the hostel many more times in the future.

My wife and I stayed here this August BH weekend. Below is my 5 reasons why you should stay here.
1. Saskia and her husband were outstanding, they could not have helped me more as i had a bad journey up so they stayed open until I got there.
2. Great starting point for a magnitude of walks.
3. A great hostel, they keep it lovely and clean and the rooms are excellent - no dorms!
4. Just a half hours drive from Anglesey, Caernarvon, Llandudno so lots to do and see.
5. Did I forget to say how good Saskia was, kitchens great by YHA standards, she is a true asset to the YHA culture.

Room Tip: Ring well in advance

Idwal Cottage YH is quite simply the best hostel (and one of the very first in the World) that we have visited. Beautifully and sympathetically modernised family rooms, VERY well equipped kitchen, well stocked bar and very spacious eating area and intimate lounge. Excellent walking from the hostel and Snowdon only a short drive away. The best aspect of our stay was the fantastic welcome and service from Saskia and Jeroem - true Dutch hospitality in the heart of Snowdonia! We'll be back.
