Lovely to park one's car after a days driving and walk everywhere. The rooms were comfortable and the view from the balcony stunning. Only a pity breakfast is not available and one has to go to one of the nearby restaurants.

This place, is in the heart of Clarens. It offers a comfortable, clean room with great views of the mountains. The entire town is walking distance from the Guest house. Nice, thanks! Take a walk to the local brewery 2 doors down for great home brewed beer.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back, they over look the mountains

Our first trip to Clarens and the Free State so we were delighted to see our lovely, well equipped room and the incredible view of the Maluti mountains from the balcony which runs along the 3 rooms to the rear of the Hotel. Each room has a little table and chairs so we could sit with our bottle of wine and just enjoy. We arrived in Clarens during a long weekend, Freedom Day on the Friday and Workers Day on the following Tuesday when the town was absolutely full, lucky we had booked ahead! The town emptied on the Tuesday morning as did the supplies of several restaurants in the town which promptly shut saying they had run out of food! This included the restaurant below Red Mountain House where we were to have had breakfast but the manager, Andrew had arranged for us to eat at a neighbouring hotel, and then another one when it too ran out. Clarens is a delight to visit, lots of little shops, restaurants and antiques and art galleries. The scenery in the Golden Gate Highlands National Park is fantastic and only a few minutes drive away. If you follow a suggested route for a drive in the hotel literature the Old Mill Drift road when it says it is a tarred road, it is, but only for a few miles then you need a 4 wheel drive. Sadly we didn't have one so had to turn back.
We had a great time and would really recommend a stay at Red Mountain House.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the building have a wonderful view of the mountains.

The room at Red Mountain house with its four-poster bed was not only a wonderful surprise but the attention to detail in all things is to be praised.
We were greeted by name and Andrew was very welcoming.
The room furnishings are a delight and the quality throughout is unbelievable.
Every thought has gone into making the room special-check out the bedding!!!!
Anyone lucky enough to stay here will be bowled over by the little extra touches and care that has gone into making this a very special place to stay.
I would highly recommend this as a must if anyone is going to Clarens or even nearby. Not to be missed

Room Tip: We stayed in room two and its beautiful.

A nice place to stay in Clarens, looking right out into the main streets of Clarens. My family and I were in the self catering apartment which was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, there was building work going on outside our window which was a little noisy but this waqas no fault of Red Mountain!

A group of 4 of us stayed in the self-catering penthouse, and what a pleasure it was. The whole apartment has been very well thought out with plenty of space for up to 6 people. The beautiful private balcony featuring its own BBQ has breathtaking scenery, the lounge is comfortable and the kitchen fully equipped. The 2 bathrooms were spotless. The bedrooms are large with extra-long beds, and good quality linen. The location is perfect for exploring the Clarens area and being on the village square allowed us to walk virtually everywhere we wanted to be. There is a well stocked gift shop, restaurant and health day spa on site. The staff went out of their way to make sure that our stay was memorable. A word of advice, there are no banks or major supermarkets in Clarens and the local cafes are expensive for groceries. It could be a better idea to bring supplies with you or stop to do your shopping in Bethlehem on the way through. The chemist is also very small so make sure you have prescribed medicines with you. The whole area's water quality is a little dubious, but Red Mountain House supplies complimentary bottled water which was very welcome. This is set to become my establishment of choice whenever I visit the Eastern Free State.
