“Excellent location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 October 2013

The rooms are spacious with a fireplace. Rooms also have underfloor heating and bathroom heaters. Comfortable 4 poster beds. We stayed in rooms 2 and 3 and they had lovely views over the mountains. The port/sherry in the rooms was a welcome touch. The piping is a tad noisy.
The location is excellent - it is situated in the centre of town - close to all the lovely shops and restaurants.
Vito's restaurant downstairs serves very tasty food.

We were supposed to stay for the week but unfortunately health decided otherwise. We had a good time while it lasted - this is a very centrally located property, right on the square and within easy reach of, well, everything. Sure the piping is a rad noisy, but since nobody ran taps all night, we got quite a good sleep. Very nice rooms, just bear in mind that if you have difficulty climbing stairs, you should maybe keep that in mind. Andrew from Red Mountain really went out of his way to make us feel welcome, I can really recommend Red Mountain to anybody. Do keep in mind that during the week the on-premises restaurant is not open for breakfast & you have to pop across the square to Valley Cats - a nice little walk.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms facing the back of the property - lovely view of the surrounding mountains!

Lovely spacious rooms, with fireplace. Underfloor heating was superb, as well as bathroom heaters.. comfortable bed, very clean. In the heart of the village, so location perfect. Also above a fantastic restaurant which does the breakfasts. Convenient. Bad points- agree with previous post- would prefer couch infront of the fire. And the noise!! :( the piping makes horrendous noises throughout the night, did not sleep well. Also, room five is right next to the wrought iron staircase, so you'll hear people tramping up and down. Room 5-8 do not have a view of the mountains.

What a wonderful experience - we stayed in rooms 2 and 3. It was cold over the long weekend and the subtle attention to details was great - there was underfloor heating, a heater in the bathroom and a fireplace to keep you warm and cosy. Some port/sherry and some minty chocolate by the fireplace was a wonderful touch. Rooms were neat, clean, comfortable and spacious. Comfortable four-poster beds also very charming. Bathrooms clean and modern(and spacious!)with both a bath and seperate shower. Staff very friendly and always helpful. Only thing which I didn't enjoy were the chairs in the room(although my husband enjoyed them) - I would've preferred a little couch to sit in front of the fire and watch TV or to just read a book. Location of Red Mountain excellent. Was also great to just be able to park our car and not have to drive anywhere as you can walk to all the shops and restaurants - never used our car once in 3 days which was great. Will definitely stay here again when we return

We really enjoy being in Clarens and feel the the Red Mountain House is a great part of the experience. Andrew and Violet are always pleasant and helpful.

We have the self catering unit with it's own kitchen and a lovely balcony overlooking the Maluti mountains. As the sun goes down, the mountains appear to change colour. It's beautiful. There has been some recent building in the area but that is now complete.

It is so nice to be able to walk around freely, to visit the many Art Galleries and Craft shops and, of course, the fine selection of restaurants.

Looking forward to next year already.

This was a very special experience. Andrew is a great host and the service we received was top class. The units are very comfortable , clean and centrally located in the center of Clarens, and the most of the town can be covered easily on foot. Units are cleaned daily by friendly staff.
The view from the rooms on the Maluti Mountains is special.
Thank you for a great experiece.

Room Tip: Room 1 is self catering with its own balcony and kitchen.

Lovely to park one's car after a days driving and walk everywhere. The rooms were comfortable and the view from the balcony stunning. Only a pity breakfast is not available and one has to go to one of the nearby restaurants.
