My wife, myself and our 7 week old baby Ella had a wonderful time at LCGH, the mid winter cold didn't touch us! In the morning there was frost on the lakes, the ducks hooted, the donkeys swished about and at night fluffy black and white rabbits roamed. The rooms was comfy and warm and clean. Bruce, the owner, is a wonderful character, full of energy and helpfulness. He was kind enough to relate his pizza fires in the sunday night when the town was closing. He and his staff are genuinely helpful and welcoming. Enjoy our sunny breakfast my the lake and the old world magic. Tops!

We needed a place to stay for our "Quilt in Clarens" experience and managed to do a booking at the Lake Clarens Guest House through RCI. Even though it is the middle of winter and we expected to freeze, we were pleasantly surprised to find a comfortable room with underfloor heating, electric blankets and a heater in the bathroom/shower, so you never felt cold in the room at all. Our door opened up onto a little patio and after a long day of quilting it was great to sit outside and relax with a glass of wine while enjoying the lake and the antics of the rabbits, chickens, geese, swans, horses and donkeys across the road. There was also a lovely playground for children. The guest house is just down the hill from all the buzz in Clarens and once the car was parked we did all our touristy visits in the town on foot, very convenient indeed. We woke up to a car all frosted up from the cold just to find the car clean and dust free a while later, a great service provided by the guest house staff. I will most definately make use of this guest house again on future visits to Clarens

Room Tip: Beds were separated on request into 2 single beds instead of a double bed. Room had its own entrance...

My wife and I had planned a road trip from Durban to Knysna stopping over in Colesberg but my daughter suggested we use her RCI points and make another break in our journey in Clarens where I had not been before. Very glad indeed we did and so glad we could stay at the Lake Clarens Guest house. Everything just as all the previous reviewers have stated. Excellent and convenient accommodation with all essential ingredients to make a very comfortable stay. I also had a car problem but thankfully owner Bruce went out of his way to assist me solve the problem. Bruce is also a true authority on where to go and what to do around Clarens and is a very helpful tour guide!

We found this accommodation through the Lonely Planet and were very pleased we did. A small facility, well located, with comfortable rooms. Ours opened out onto a patio where we enjoyed a lovely hot breakfast each day, in the sun, even though we were in mid-winter.
Our stay was two nights. Our host, Bruce Meyer, suggested a visit to the Four Paws animal welfare game park, where lions, tigers and leopards are kept when removed from circuses, zoos etc to live in natural surroundings. This was a most interesting visit, not too far from Clarens.
Clarens itself is a small town with lots of character and worthy of a visit. The road through Golden gate is visually exciting at different times of day, so make sure you include it in your trip.

Room Tip: The patio room is on the ground floor and enjoys the better views.

We had a very comfortable stay in one of the luxury rooms - absolute luxury with choice of bath/shower, heated towel rail, underfloor heating - and lots of personal extras. Bruce and his staff were incredibly hospitable and attentive from when we first arrived until when we left, and very kind in lending us a vehicle to get spares from Bethlehem for our vehicle which had broken down. Dinner at their Artichoke Restaurant next door was just what the doctor ordered to unwind from quite a stressful day, and the breakfast eaten while warming up in the morning sun, was very generously served up. We even had our car washed while we had breakfast - wow! that was a first. We would thoroughly recommend this establishment.
