Parakkottu Kavu Thalappoli is held evry year on the last Sunday of Malayalam month MEDAM corresponding to 15 April to 14 May. So if you do not have knowledge of Malayalam calendar you don't have to worry it will be the last Sunday during 6 May to 14 May!
Parakkottu Kavu is in Thiruvilwamala, a small village in the north of Trissur. The village is divided into three for the purpose of Thalapoli. There will be competition among the three constituents in all areas of Thalappoli, like the tallest/biggest elephant, famous artistes in the filed of Temple Music, fireworks, decoration etc.
All festivities start with the KODIYETTAM (hoisting of flag) in the night at the Kavu, mrans Goddess Temple, on the preceeding Sunday.
Parakkottu Kavu is a nature created auditorium as it is surrounded by hills on various sides.
I was there with my wife and brothers for this year's Thalappoli which was on 11th May 2014. You have to be there to know it. Howsoever I may try to draw a picture with words it will be incomplete. My wife and I reached Thiruvilwamala on the previous Saturday of flag hoisting i.e. 3rd May 2014.
